This operating manual should help you to familiarise yourself with your tool and to use it for its intended purpose.
The operating manual includes important instructions for the safe, proper and economic operation of the tool, for avoiding danger, for minimising repair costs and downtimes and for increasing the reliability and extending the service life of the tool.
In addition to the safety instructions in this operating manual, you must also observe the regulations applicable to the operation of the tool in your country.

Proper use

The brush cutter (using the cutting knife) is suitable for cutting shrubs, strong weed and undergrowth.
The grass trimmer (using thread coil with trimming line) is suitable for cutting lawns, grass areas and light weed.
The hedge trimmer is suitable for cutting hedges, bushes and shrubs.
The pole-mounted pruner is intended for branch removal work. It is not suitable for extensive sawing work and felling trees as well as sawing materials other than wood.
The observance of the manufacturer’s usage instructions included is a prerequisite for the proper use of the device. Any other use not expressly permitted in  these instructions may result in damage to  thedevice and pose a serious danger to the user. Be sure to observe the restrictions in the safety instructions.
Please note that our equipment was not designed with the intention of use for commercial or industrial purposes. We assume no guarantee if the device is used in commercial or industrial applications, or for equivalent work.
Attention!
Due to physical hazards to the user, the 4 in 1 multifunction device must not be used for the following work: cleaning pavements and as a shredder for shredding tree and hedge cuttings. Furthermore, the 4 in 1 multifunction device must not be used for levelling ground elevations, such as molehills. For safety reasons, the 4 in 1 multifunction device must not be used as a drive unit for other working tools and tool sets of any type.
The 4 in 1 multifunction device may only be used in the intended manner. Any use beyond this is improper.
The user/operator, not the manufacturer, is responsible for damages or injuries of any type resulting from this.
Who is not permitted to use the device:
People who are not familiar with the operating manual, children under the age of 16, people under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication, and people who are tired or unwell.

5.1 General

  • Exhaust, fuel and lubricants are poisonous. Ex- haust may not be inhaled.

5.1.1 Fuel

  • Petrol is highly flammable. Only store petrol in the designated containers.
  • Only refuel the device outdoors and do not smoke.
  • While the engine runs or if the device is hot, the fuel cap must not be opened and petrol must not be filled.
  • If petrol overflows, no attempts should be made to start the engine. Instead, the device must be removed from the area contaminated with petrol. Do not try to start the engine until the fuel vapours have evaporated.
  • For safety reasons, fuel tank and tank caps must be replaced if damaged.

5.1.2 Before start-up

  • During mowing, non-slip safety shoes and appropriate safety clothing such as protective gloves, safety helmet, protective mask, safety goggles and hearing protection must always be worn.
  • Check the area in which the device is to be used and remove any objects that could be caught and ejected.
  • Before use and after dropping or other impacts, al- ways carry out a visual inspection to check whether the cutting tools, fastening bolts and the entire cutting unit are damaged. Worn or damaged cutting tools and fastening bolts must be replaced.
  • Prior to use. always perform a visual inspection to check whether the cutting tools are worn out or damaged. To prevent an imbalance, worn out or damaged cutting tools and fastening bolts may only be replaced in sets.

5.2 Work safety instructions for brush cutter /grass trimmer
5.2.1 Safety devices
When working with the device, the appropriate plastic protective cover for brush cutters or grass trimmers must be fitted to prevent objects from being thrown away.

  • Never mow while people, especially children or animals are nearby.
  • Maintain a safety distance of 15 m. Switch off the  device immediately if it is approached.

5.2.2 Work safety instructions for grass trimmers
5.2.2.1 Preparation

  • Wear close-fitting work clothing that offers protection, such as long trousers, secure work shoes, heavy-duty protective gloves, a safety helmet, a face mask or safety goggles to protect your eyes and good ear defences or other hearing protection against the  noise.
  • Always use the carrying strap supplied.
  • Make sure that the handles are dry and clean and that no petrol mixture is adhering to them.
  • Before starting work, check the area for objects such as metal parts, bottles, stones, etc. that could be thrown away and cause injury to the user.
  • Before starting the engine, ensure that the grass trimmer does not come into contact with any obstacles.
  • Do not use the device until you feel comfortable with it.

5.2.2.2 Electrical safety

  • Never use the device in the vicinity of highly flammable liquids or gases, either in enclosed spaces  or outdoors. Explosions and / or fire can result.
  • Do not work with a device that is damaged, incomplete or modified without the manufacturer’s consent. Never use the device with defective protective equipment. Do not use the device if the on/ off switch is defective. After dropping the device, check for significant damage or defects.

5.2.2.3 Safety of personnel

  • Only adequately trained persons and adults may operate, set and maintain the device.
  • If you are not familiar with the device, practise us- ing it when the engine is not running.
  • Do not touch the exhaust pipe.
  • Do not operate the device under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Always hold the device firmly with both hands. In doing so, the handles should enclose the thumb and fingers.
  • Working position: Do not operate the device in uncomfortable positions, when lacking balance, with arms outstretched or only with one hand.
  • Always ensure you have a secure footing.
  • Do not use the device if spectators or animals are in the immediate vicinity. Keep a minimum distance of 15 metres between the user and other persons or animals during mowing work. When mowing down to the soil, please keep a minimum distance of 30 metres between the user and other people or  animals.
  • When mowing on slopes, always stand below the cutting tool. Never cut or trim on a smooth, slippery hill or slope.
  • Any modifications to the product may jeopardise personal safety and will invalidate the manufacturer ’s warranty.
  • Children should not be left unattended, to ensure they do not play with the device.
  • Never use the device if it is damaged or has defects.

5.2.2.4 Use and handling

  • Only use the device for its intended purpose, such as grass trimming and mowing.
  • Do not use the device for a long peiod of time, take regular breaks.
  • Make sure that the screws and connecting elements are tightened securely. Never operate the device if it is not correctly set, complete or securely assembled.
  • Open the fuel tank slowly to release any pressure that may have built up in the fuel tank. To prevent the risk of fire, move at least 3 metres away from the refuelling area before starting the device.
  • Guide the grass trimmer to the desired height. Avoid touching small objects (e.g. stones) with the grass trimmer.
  • Always keep the grass trimmer on the ground when the device is in operation.
  • Only use the device if the appropriate protective cover is installed and in good condition.
  • Do not use any other cutting tools. For your own safety, only use accessories and additional equipment that are specified in the operating manual. The use of cutting tools or accessories other than those recommended in the operating manual may pose a  personal danger of injury to you.
  • Always trim and cut in the upper speed range. Do not run the engine at low speed at the start of mowing or during trimming.
  • Ensure that the device does not come into contact with the ground, stones, wire or other foreign objectswhen starting and during operation.
  • Switch the device off before putting it down.
  • Always switch off the engine before working on the cutting tool.

5.2.3 Work safety instructions for brush cutters
5.2.3.1 Preparation

  • The brush cutter violently throws objects and earth away. This can cause blindness or injury. Wear eye, face and leg protection. Always remove objects from the work area before using the brush cutter.
  • The brush cutter stops when the throttle is released. An outlet from a brush cutter can cause cuts to you or bystanders. Before carrying out any work on the brush cutter, switch off the engine and ensure that the brush cutter has come to a standstill.

5.2.3.2 Safety of personnel

  • Bystanders may suffer blindness or injuries. Maintain a spacing of 15 metres between yourself and other persons or animals in all directions.

5.2.3.3 Use and handling

  • Do not use the device if all cutting blade attachments are not properly installed.
  • The cutting blade can be jerked away from objects (kick-back). This can lead to injuries to the arms and legs. If the device encounters foreign objects, stop the engine immediately and wait until the cutting blade has come to a stopper.
  • Check the cutting blade for damage. Always replace the cutting blade if it is bent or cracked. Warning! Cracked cutting blades can be flung out.
  • Switch the motor off and remove the spark plug connector if carrying out work on the cutting blade (e.g. removal of a blockage, checking of the cutting unit).
  • Warning! Sharp edges on the brush cutter. It is necessary to wear gloves.
  • Check whether the set of blade and saw chain is stationary when the engine is idling.
  • Check the machine for loose fastenings, fuel leaks and damaged parts, such as cracks in the set of blade and saw chain.
  • Remark! National regulations may restrict the use of the machine.
  • It is necessary to carry out a daily visual inspection before use and after dropping the device or other impacts in order to discover significant defects.
  • Wear both non-slip foot protection and protective clothing.
  • Never use the machine if the user is tired, ill or un- der the influence of alcohol or other drugs before working with the machine.
  • It is necessary to take rest breaks and switch working positions when using the machine.
  • Keep a firm footing and keep your balance during operation. It is necessary to use the supplied carrying strap.
  • It is necessary to keep the machine in good working order.
  • Use the guards for sets of blade and saw chain with metal blade.
  • Use transport protection for metal blades during transport and storage.
  • Only use manufacturer’s recommended original cutting tools. Other cutting tools not recommended by the manufacturer may damage the device or cause injury.

5.3 Work safety instructions for hedge trimmers
Note:

  • The hedge trimmer is supplied fully assembled.
  • You will find notes and illustrations on setting, use of the hedge trimmer and its actuator components, maintenance and lubrication by the user in this manual and on the fold-out page.
  • Notes on the working position (see fold-out page).
  • Notes on actuator components (see fold-out page).
  • Notes on safe use of fuel (see chapter “Before com- missioning”).
  • Notes on the recommended replacement or repair of parts or customer service and specifications of spare parts to be used, where these affect the health and safety of users, can be found in this manual.
  • An explanation of all graphic symbols, information, features and technical data used on the hedge trimmer as well as the procedure in the event of accidents and faults can be found in this manual.
  • Jammed tool: Remove the clamped material from the cutting unit (19).

  •  Children are never permitted to use the hedge trim- mer.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of carelessness when using the device can result in serious injuries.
  • Avoid misuse, use the machine only as described under “Intended use”.

Familiarise yourself with the operating manual before operating the device.
5.3.1 Preparation

  • THIS HEDGE TRIMMER CAN CAUSE SERI- OUS INJURIES! Read the instructions for correct handling, preparation, maintenance, starting and shutting down the hedge trimmer carefully. Familiarise yourself with all actuators and with using the hedge trimmer properly.
  • Children are never permitted to use the hedge trimmer.
  • Children, young people and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities must not use the hedge trimmer. Exceptions exist only for young people over 16 years of age in the context of training under the supervision of a professional.
  • Beware of overhead power lines.
  • Avoid using the hedge trimmer if people, and espe- cially children, are in the vicinity.
  • Wear suitable clothing! Do not wear wide clothing or jewellery, which can become entangled in moving parts. It is recommended to wear sturdy gloves, non-slip shoes and safety goggles.
  • If the cutting device touches a foreign object, the operating noises get louder or the hedge trimmer vibrates unusually excessively, stop the engine and allow the hedge trimmer to come to a standstill. Disconnect the spark plug connector from the spark plug and take the following measures:
    – check for damage;
    – check for loose parts and fasten all parts;
    – replace damaged parts with equivalent parts or have them repaired.
  • Wear hearing protection!
  • Wear safety goggles!
  • Handle fuel carefully, it is highly flammable and the vapours are explosive. The following points should be followed:
    – Only use specially designed tanks.
    – Never remove the fuel cap or top up with petrol when the engine is running or hot. Allow the engine and exhaust parts to cool before refilling.
    – Do not smoke.
    – Only refuel outdoors.
  • – Never store the hedge trimmer or fuel tank in a room where there is an open flame, such as in a water heater.
    – If petrol has overflowed try not to start the engine but remove the machine from the petrol contaminated surface before starting.
    – Always replace the fuel cap after filling and close it securely.
    – If the tank is emptied, this should be done outdoors.
  • Familiarise yourself with the operation of the hedge trimmer so that you can stop it immediately in an emergency. To do this, press the on/off switch (3).

5.3.2 Operation
a) Switch off the engine before:
– Cleaning or removing a blockage;
– Inspection, maintenance or work on the hedge trimmer;
– Adjusting the working position of the cutting device;
– if the hedge trimmer is left unattended.
b) Always ensure that the hedge trimmer is properly in one of the prescribed working positions before starting the motor.
c) When operating the hedge trimmer, always ensure that a safe stance is taken.
d) Do not use the hedge trimmer with a faulty or heavily worn cutting device.
e) To reduce the risk of fire, make sure that the engine and silencer are free of debris, leaves or leaking lubricant.
f) Ensure that all handles and safety equipment are installed when using the hedge trimmer. Never attempt to use an incomplete hedge trimmer or one with an impermissible modification.
g) Always use both hands when the hedge trimmer is equipped with two handles.
h) Always familiarise yourself with your environment and pay attention to possible hazards that you may not hear due to the noise from the hedge trimmer.
5.3.3 Maintenance and storage
a) When work with the hedge trimmer is stopped for maintenance, inspection or storage, turn off the engine, disconnect the spark plug connector from the spark plug and ensure that all rotating parts have stopped. Allow the machine to cool down before checking, adjusting, etc.
b) Store the hedge trimmer where petrol vapours cannot come into contact with open fire or sparks. Allow the hedge trimmer to cool down before storing it.
c) When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, always cover the cutting device with the cutting device protector.
5.3.4 Safety instructions for hedge trimmers
5.3.4.1 Safety around you

  • Only carry out hedge trimming in daylight or good artificial light.
  • Take care not to touch any objects such as wire fences or plant supports when cutting. This can cause damage to the cutting unit (19). Carefully inspect the hedge to be cut and remove all wires or other foreign objects.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and be prepared for potential hazards that you may not hear while trimming the hedge.

In the event of imminent danger or in an emergency, switch off the engine immediately.
5.3.4.2 Electrical safety

  • Only hold the tool by the insulated gripping surfaces, because the cutting unit can come into contact with concealed power lines. If the cutting unit comes into contact with an energised line, device parts can become energised and cause an electric shock.

5.3.4.3 Safety of personnel

  • During operation, no other persons or animals may be within a radius of 15 metres. The operator is responsible for third parties in the working area.
  • When operating the hedge trimmer, always ensure that you have a firm footing and always keep your balance.
  • Never hold the hedge trimmer by the cutting unit (19).
  • Keep all body parts away from the cutting unit. Do not attempt to remove cuttings or hold material to be cut while the cutting unit is running. Remove trapped cuttings only when the device is switched off. A moment of carelessness when using the hedge trimmer can result in serious injury.
  • Wait until the tool has come to a standstill before setting it down.

5.3.4.4 Use and handling

  • Between operations or after completion of each operation, do not place the cutting unit (19) on the tip to avoid any damage to the cutting unit (19).

a) Always check whether the blades, blade bolts and other parts of the cutting unit are worn or damaged before use. Never work with a damaged or badly worn cutting unit.
b) After setting the working angle, check that both adjustment levers are securely engaged. If an adjustment lever remains open, the second locking mechanism can be released unintentionally by a branch during work and the cutting unit (19) can fold down.
c) Never use the hedge trimmer if the protective devices are defective or not fitted.
d) Never hold the hedge trimmer by its protective device.
e) Carry the hedge trimmer by the front handle when switched off, with the cutting unit facing away from your body. Always put the protective cover on when transporting or storing the hedge trimmer. Careful handling of the device reduces the likelihood of accidental contact with the running blades.
f) Store the hedge trimmer in a dry, elevated or sealed space, out of the reach of children.
g) Do not try to repair the device yourself unless you have had the training necessary to do so.
h) To be on the safe side, replace worn or damaged parts.

5.4 Work safety instructions for pole-mounted pruners

  • Never touch the device above the protective ring (22) during operation to avoid injuries!

5.4.1 Preparation

  • Always wear a safety helmet, hearing protection and safety gloves. Also wear eye protection to avoid getting oil splashes or sawdust in your eyes. Wear a dust mask to protect against dust.
  • Wear sturdy, non-slip boots.
  • Do not use the device in rain or damp conditions.
  • Before use, check the safety status of the device, especially the guide bar and the saw chain.
  • Do not use the device in the vicinity of power lines. Hold a minimum distance of 10 metres from overhead power lines.

5.4.2 Electrical safety

  • Do not use the device in potentially explosive at- mospheres, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gases or shock absorbers. The sparks produced by the machine can ignite these shock absorbers or gases.
  • Devices with defective switches must be repaired immediately to avoid damage and injury.
  • Danger! Never use the machine in the vicinity of overhead high-voltage power lines.

5.4.3 Safety of personnel

  • Never use the device while standing on a ladder.
  • Do not lean too far forwards when using the device. Always make sure you have a firm footing and keep your balance at all times. Use the carrying strap in the scope of delivery to distribute the weight evenly across the body.
  • Do not stand under the branches you wish to cut off to avoid injury from fallen branches. Also watch out for branches springing back to avoid injury. Work at an angle of approx. 60°.
  • Be aware that the device may kick back.
  • Keep an eye not only on branches to be worked on, but also on fallen material to avoid tripping.
  • Cover the guide rail and chain with the cover during transport and storage.
  • Avoid starting up the device unintentionally.
  • Store the device out of the reach of children. Only persons familiar with the operating instructions and the device may operate it.
  • Check whether the set of blade and saw chain stops turning when the engine is idling.
  • Check the machine for loosened fastening elements and damaged parts (e.g. cracks in the set of blade and saw chain).
  • National regulations may restrict the use of the pole-mounted pruner.
  • It is necessary to perform daily inspections before use and after dropping or other impacts to detect significant damage or defects.
  • Use non-slip foot protection and close-fitting clothing.
  • Warning! Never use the machine if the user is tired, ill or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
  • Warning! Danger of injury for third parties. It is necessary to keep it at a safe distance from the machine during work.
  • Keep a firm footing and keep your balance during operation. Use the carrying strap supplied.
  • Keep the machine, the set of blade and saw chain and the cutting set guard in good working order.
  • It is necessary to rest regularly and change the working positions.
  • Remove branches in sections. Warning! Be careful of dangerous working positions and the danger of being hit by falling branches or by branches kicking back when they have fallen to the floor.

5.4.4 Use and handling

  • Never start the device before the guide bar, saw chain and chain cover are correctly fitted.
  • Do not cut wood that is lying on the ground or try to cut roots that are sticking out of the ground.
  • In any case, make sure the saw chain does not come into contact with the soil, otherwise the saw chain will dull immediately.
  • If you accidentally touch a solid object with the device, switch off the engine immediately and inspect the device for any damage.
  • Take a break of at least one hour after 30 minutes of work. Change working position regularly.
  • If the pole-mounted pruner is shut down for maintenance, inspection or storage, turn off the engine, disconnect the spark plug connector from the spark plug and ensure that all rotating parts have stopped. Allow the machine to cool down before checking, adjusting, etc.
  • Maintain the device carefully. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the device’s operation. Have damaged parts repaired before using the device. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained  devices.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main- tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
  • Have the device serviced by qualified personnel. Only use manufacturer’s recommended original spare parts. Other cutting tools not recommended by the manufacturer may damage the device or cause injury.

5.4.4.1 Precautionary measures against kickback

  • Watch out for kick-back when working with the de- vice. There is a danger of injury. Avoid kick-backs through caution and correct sawing technique. Touching with the rail tip can sometimes lead to an unexpected backward reaction, whereby the guide rail whips up and in the direction of the operator.

Each of these reactions can lead to you losing control of the saw and possibly suffering a serious injury.
Never rely solely on the safety equipment integrated in the chainsaw.
As a chainsaw user, take various measures to work without accidents and injuries.
Kick-back is the result of incorrect or deficient use.
It can be prevented by suitable precautionary measures, as described in the following:

  • Hold the saw firmly with both hands, with the thumbs and fingers enclosing the chainsaw handles. Bring your body and arms into a position in which you can absorb the kick-back forces. If suitable measures are implemented, the operator will be able to withstand the kick-back forces. Never let go of the chainsaw.
  • Avoid an unusual body stance and never saw above shoulder height. This will help to avoid unintentional contact with the rail tip, and enable improved control of the chainsaw in unexpected situations.
  • Always use replacement guide rails and saw chains prescribed by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement guide bars and saw chains may cause the saw chain to break and/or lead to kickback.
  • Adhere to the instructions of the manufacturer when sharpening and maintaining the saw chain. If the depth limiter is too low, this increases the tendency towards kick-back.
  • Do not saw with the tip of the guide bar. There is  a risk of kick-back.
  • There is a risk of kick-back.
  • Make sure that there are no objects on the floor that you can trip over.
  • Remove branches in sections.
  • Warning! Be careful with dangerous working positions.

5.5 Residual risks
Even when used correctly and in compliance with all safety regulations, there may still be residual risks.

  • Cuts
  • Hearing damage
  • Staying in the immediate vicinity of the running device for a longer period of time may cause hearing damage. Wear hearing protection!
  • Damage to health resulting from hand/arm vibration if the device is used over an extended period of time or if it is not properly operated and maintained.
  • Vibration dampening systems do not guarantee protection against Raynaud syndrome or carpal tunnel syndrome. For this reason, the condition of the fingers and the wrist must be thoroughly monitored in case of regular, continuous use of the de- vice. If symptoms of the illnesses indicated above occur, contact a doctor immediately. To reduce the risk of Raynaud syndrome, keep your hands warm while working and take breaks at regular intervals.
  • Despite observing the operating manual, there may also be residual risks that are not obvious.
  • In the event of a saw chain blockage, switch the device off immediately and pull out the spark plug connector. Then remove the object.

Raynaud’s syndrome is a vascular disease that causes  the small blood vessels on the fingers and toes to cramp in spasms. The affected areas are no longer supplied with sufficient blood and therefore appear extremely pale. The frequent use of vibrating devices can cause nerve damage in people whose circulation is impaired (e.g. smokers, diabetics).
If you notice unusual adverse effects, stop working immediately and seek medical advice.
Observe the following information to reduce hazards:

  • Keep your body and especially your hands warm in cold weather.
  • Take regular breaks and move your hands to pro- mote circulation.
  • Ensure as little vibration as possible at the device via regular maintenance and stable parts on the machine.

Before commissioning

  • Open the packaging and carefully remove the device.
  • Remove the packaging material, as well as the packag i ng and transpor t safet y dev i ces (i f present).
  • Check whether the scope of delivery is complete.
  • Check the device and accessory parts for transport damage.
  • If possible, keep the packaging until the expiry of the warranty period.

Fuel and oil

  • Recommended fuels
    – Use only a mixture of unleaded petrol and special 2-stroke engine oil. Mix the fuel mixture as per the fuel mixing table.
    – Do not use E10 fuel.

Attention:
Do not use a fuel mixture that has been stored for more than 90 days.
Attention:
Do not use 2-stroke oil that recommends a mixing ratio of 100:1. The engine guarantee of the manufacturer becomes invalid in the event of damage to the engine due to insufficient lubrication.
Attention:
Use only designated and approved vessels for the transport and storage of fuel. Put the correct amount of petrol and 2-stroke oil into the enclosed oil-petrol mixing bottle (29). Then shake the vessel well. Never use oil for 4-stroke engines or water-cooled 2-stroke engines. This can cause the spark plug to become fouled, the exhaust part to become blocked or the piston ring to become stuck. Fuel mixtures that have not been used for one month or longer can clog the carburettor or impair engine operation. Put unused fuel in an airtight vessel and store it in a dark, cool room.
Fuel mixing table
Mixing procedure: 40 parts petrol to 1 part oil
Example:
1 l petrol: 0.025 l 2-stroke oil
5 l petrol: 0.125 l 2-stroke oil
Warning! Pay attention to the exhaust gases.
Always switch off the engine before refuelling.
Never add petrol to the device while the engine is running or it is hot. There is a risk of fire! Only fuel the unit outdoors or in well-ventilated rooms. Make sure that no fuel gets into the soil (environmental protection). Use a suitable surface. Only use bio chain oil.

Assembly

When assembling this machine, please follow the specified assembly instructions.
8.1 Mounting the front handle (10) (Fig. 2) 
Note:
The front handle (10) can be mounted in two different positions. Select one of the two specified positioning holes (33) on the shaft of the engine drive unit (1). Mount the front handle (10) to the shaft of the motor drive unit (1):

  • Place the rubber ring (34) on the shaft of the engine drive unit (1).
  • Make sure that the recess of the rubber ring (34) corresponds to the desired positioning holes (33).
  • Place the protective bracket (35) onto the handle rubber ring (34). Guide the pin into the desired positioning hole (33). Make sure that the protective bracket (35) is mounted to the left (towards the user).
  • Place the front handle (10) on the protective bracket (35) and screw it tight with the hexagon socket screws (36). Use the Allen key size 4 (31) for this.

8.2 Mount ing t he brush cut ter / grass t r i mmer (13)
Attention!
If the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13) is mounted to the engine drive unit (1), always remove the spark plug connector (6) before checking and adjustment work.
8.2.1 Mounting the brush cutter / grass trimmer shield (14) (Fig. 3)

  • Place the shield (14) onto the premounted screw (37) on the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13).
  • Tighten the pre-mounted screw (37).
  • Use the Allen key size 5 (32) for mounting the shield (14).

8.2.2 Fitting / removing the brush cutter (Fig. 4, 5)
The brush cutter / grass trimmer (13) attachment can be used as a trimmer with the cutting blade (15).

  • Remove the nut (42), cover (41) and the external flange (40) from the threaded mandrel (39).
  • The internal flange (38) remains on the threaded mandrel (39).
  • Place the cutting blade (15) on the internal flange (38). Note that the direction of rotation of the cutting blade (15) must match with the direction of  the arrow on the shield (14).
  • Then slide the external flange (40) and the cover (41) onto the threaded mandrel (39).
  • Fasten the cutting blade (15) with the nut (42).
  • Tighten the nut (42) with the spark plug wrench (30). To do this, hold the internal flange (38) using the Allen key size 5 (32) (see Fig. 5)
  • Removal of the cutting blade (15) takes place in reverse order.

8.2.3 Fitting/removing the grass trimmer (Fig. 4, 6, 7)
The brush cutter / grass trimmer (13) attachment can be used as a grass trimmer with the thread coil (16).

  • Remove the nut (42), cover (41) and the external flange (40) from the threaded mandrel (39). Attention
    -Left-handed thread!
  • The nut (42), cover (41) and the external flange (40) are not required for fitting the thread coil (16).
  • Hold the internal flange (38) using the Allen key size 4 (31) (see Fig. 6)
  • Turn the thread coil (16) anti-clockwise on the threaded mandrel (39) and attach the thread coil (16) hand-tight onto the threaded mandrel (39).
  • Removal of the thread coil (16) takes place in reverse order.

Note that the direction of rotation of the thread coil (16) must match with the direction of the arrow on the shield (14).
8.3 Assembling the hedge trimmer (17)
The hedge trimmer (17) is already fully assembled.
Attention!
If the hedge trimmer (17) is mounted to the engine drive unit (1), always remove the spark plug connector (6) before checking and adjustment work.
8.4 Assembling the pole-mounted pruner (21)
Attention!
If the pole-mounted pruner (21) is mounted to the engine drive unit (1), always remove the spark plug connector (6) before checking and adjustment work.
8.4.1 Installing the guide bar (26) and the saw chain (25) (Fig. 8, 9, 10)

  • Remove the chain cover (43) by loosening the guide bar fixing nut (24).
  • Screw the chain tensioning screw (45) carefully up to the stop to the left. This makes it easier to insert the guide bar (26).
  • The saw chain (25) is placed in the circumferential groove of the blade (26).
  • Place the guide bar (26) with the inserted saw chain (25) into the holder for the pole-mounted pruner (21). (Fig. 9)
  • Pay attention to the alignment of the chain teeth (Fig. 9).
  • Guide the saw chain (25) around the chain wheel (44). Make sure that the teeth of the saw chain (25) grip securely into the chain wheel (44).
  • Place the guide bar (26), as shown in figure 9, into the transmission retainer. The guide bar (26) must be hooked into the chain tensioning bolt (45a).
  • Refit the chain cover (43) and the guide bar fixing nut (24).

Attention!
Only fully tighten the guide bar fixing nut (24) after the chain tension has been adjusted (see section 8.4.2 “Tensioning the saw chain”).
8.4.2 Tensioning the saw chain (25) (Fig. 10)

  • Loosen the guide bar fixing nut (24) for the chain cover (43) a few turns.
  • Adjust the chain tension with the chain tensioning screw (45). Turning anti-clockwise increases the chain tension, turning anti-clockwise reduces the chain tension. The saw chain (25) is tensioned correctly when it can be lifted approx. 2mm in the centre of the guide bar (26).
  • Retighten the guide bar fixing nut (24) for the chain cover (43).
  • Attention! All chain links of the saw chain (25) must sit properly in the guide groove of the guide bar (26).

Notes about tensioning the saw chain (25):
The saw chain (25) must be tensioned correctly in order to guarantee safe operation. You can identify the optimal tension when the saw chain (25) can be lifted approx. 2 mm in the centre of the guide bar (26). Check the chain tension every 10 mins at the latest and adjust it if necessary as the saw chain (25) heats  up during sawing and therefore its length changes.
This is especially true for new saw chains.
Slacken the saw chain (25) after work is complete because it shortens after cooling down. This prevents the saw chain (25) from getting damaged.
8.4.3 Filling the automatic saw chain lubrication (Fig. 10)

It is recommended to use standard bio saw chain oil.

  • Remove the oil tank cap (46) from the oil tank (23).
  • Fill the oil tank (Fig. 23) up to the MAX marking with saw chain oil.
  • Close the oil tank cap (46).

Attention! Oil is very easily flammable. Avoid smoking, naked flames or flying sparks near oil.

Before commissioning

Warning icon Attention!
Always make sure the product is fully assembled before commissioning!
Never operate the engine drive unit (1) without the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13), hedge trimmer (17) or pole-mounted pruner (21).
9.1 Attaching the brush cutter/grass trimmer (13), hedge trimmer (17) or pole-mounted pruner (21) (following cutting device) to the engine drive unit (1) (Fig. 11)

  • Remove the protective cover from the shaft of the cutting device.
  • Pull the unlocking pin (11) and push the shaft of the cutting device into the sleeve of the engine drive unit (1).
  • Twist the shaft slightly until the unlocking pin (11) engages.
  • Now tighten the locking screw (12).

The cutting device is disassembled in reverse order.
9.2 Attaching the carrying strap (28) (Fig. 12-14)
The 4 in 1 multifunction device must be used with the carrying strap (28).

  • Attach the carrying strap (28) (see Fig. 13 and 14).
  • Adjust the length of the belt so that the carabiner hook (a) is approx. one hand-width beneath the right hip.
  • You can attach the 4 in 1 multifunction device to the carrying strap (28) in different positions depending on the attachment device and the fill level of the fuel tank (8).
  • Hook the 4 in 1 multifunction device in a suitable position to the lifting eye (2) using the carabiner hook (a).
  • Allow the 4 in 1 multifunction device to swing.

Attention!

  • The cutting tool on the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13) must not touch the floor in the normal working position.
  • When using the hedge trimmer (17) or pole-mounted pruner (21), the 4 in 1 multifunction device should be swung horizontally.
  • Do not start the 4 in 1 multifunction device while it is hooked to the carrying strap! Only hook the device to the lifting eye (2) using the carabiner hook (a) of the carrying strap (28) with the engine running.

  • ATTENTION! In an emergency, the safety tab (b) on the carrying strap (28) can be pulled. The machine then immediately detaches from the carrying strap (28) and falls to the floor.

9.3 Mixing fuel
m Risk of injury! Petrol is explosive!
Switch off the engine and allow it to cool!
Wear protective gloves!
Avoid skin and eye contact!
You must observe the “Safety instructions” section.

  • Only refuel the tank outdoors or in sufficiently ven- tilated rooms.
  • Clean the area surrounding the fuel tank cap (8). Impurities in the tank lead to operational faults.
  • Shake the container with the fuel mixture again be- fore filling it into the tank.
  • Carefully open the fuel tank cap (8) so that any pos- sible excess pressure can be relieved.
  • Carefully fill the fuel mixture up to the lower edge of the fuel tank (8) filler neck. Use a funnel or a filling aid to prevent spilling of the fuel.
  • Close the fuel tank cap (8) again. Ensure that the fuel cap is tightly sealed.
  • Clean the fuel cap and the surroundings.
  • Check the fuel tank (8) and fuel lines for leaks.
  • Move at least three meters away from the refuelling area before starting the engine.

9.3.1 Draining the fuel
Only empty the fuel tank (8) outdoors or in well-ventilated rooms. Make sure that no fuel gets into the soil (environmental protection). Use a suitable surface.

  • Hold a collection bucket under the fuel tank (8).
  • Unscrew and remove the fuel cap of the fuel tank (8).
  • Drain the petrol/oil mixture completely.
  • Retighten the fuel cap by hand.

Operation

Never operate the engine drive unit (1) without the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13), hedge trimmer (17) or pole-mounted pruner (21).
10.1 Starting the device
Do not start the device until you have fully assembled it.
Warning icon Risk of injury!
Only start the 4 in 1 multifunction device when a cutting device is connected! Remove the corresponding transport protection and inspect the device to ensure that its operating status is good.
Never use a cutting device that is damaged, poorly adjusted or maintained, or not fully mounted and secured.

Check before use!
Check that the device is in a safe condition:

  • Check the device for leaks.
  • Check the device for visible damage.
  • Check that all parts of the device are securely at- tached.
  • Check that all safety devices are in good condition and functional.

10.1.1 Starting up (Fig. 1, 15)
Once the device is properly assembled, start the engine as follows:
Starting the engine when cold:

  1. Pull the on/off switch (3) back to the on position.
  2. Turn the choke lever (47) to the scheppach PMT520 Multifunctional Petrol Device - icon 35 position.
  3. Press the fuel pump (48) 7 times.
  4. Pull the handle of the starter cable (7) 3 to 5 times to start the engine.
    ATTENTION! Never put a foot on the engine drive unit (1) or kneel on it.
  5. When the engine is running, wait a moment and then briefly rev up using the throttle (9). Set the choke lever (47) to the scheppach PMT520 Multifunctional Petrol Device - icon 37 position.
  6. To start the cutting device, press the switch lock (4) with the palm and the throttle with the fingers (9). The further you press the throttle lever (9), the higher the engine speed becomes. Loosening the throttle (9) brings the engine back into idling and the cutting tool stops. The cutting tool must not rotate or move while idle!
  7. If problems occur, push the on/off switch (3) to “STOP” immediately so that the engine stops.
    Attention! The cutting device can keep turning for a few seconds.

Starting the engine when warm

  1. To start the motor when warm, move the choke lever to the “Warm start and working” scheppach PMT520 Multifunctional Petrol Device - icon 37 position.
  2. Pull the handle of the starter cable (7) 3 to 5 times to start the engine.
    ATTENTION! Never put a foot on the engine drive unit (1) or kneel on it.

Note:
If the engine does not start even after several attempts, read the “Troubleshooting” section.
Note:
Always pull the start pull cord out straight. If it is pulled out at an angle, friction will occur on the lug. This friction causes the cord to wear through and wear out faster. Always hold the starter handle when the cord retracts. Never let the cord snap back from its extended state.
Note:
Do not start the engine in tall grass.
Do not start the engine if the device is hooked into the carrying strap (28).

In an emergency, the safety tab (b) on the carrying strap (28) can be pulled. The machine then immediately detaches from the carrying strap (28) and falls to the floor.

Use this work technique with particular care. The greater the distance between the cutting tool and the ground, the greater the danger that the material to be cut and foreign objects will be thrown to the side.

10.1.2 Shutting off the engine

  1. Push the on/off switch (3) to the off position “STOP ”.
  2. Wait until the engine has come to a standstill before setting the device down.

Working instructions

ATTENTION:
Generally, hold the brush cutter / grass trimmer by the insulated gripping surfaces, as the cutting device can come into contact with hidden power cables. If the cutting device comes into contact with an energised line, device parts can become energised and cause an electric shock. Always ensure that you have a secure stance and an upright working posture.

11.1 Working with the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13)
When working with the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13), the brush cutter / grass trimmer shield (14) for the blade and thread operation must be mounted in order to prevent objects being ejected.
The brush cutter / grass trimmer shield cutting blade (14a) in the brush cutter / grass trimmer shield (14) automatically cuts the thread to the optimum length. (Fig. 7)

11.1.1 Mowing with the brush cutter (13)

  • With the device switched off, first familiarise your- self with the operation and guidance if you are working with a brush cutter (13) for the first time.
  • The brush cutter (13) is designed so that it is operated solely from the right-hand side of the operator.
  • Always hold the brush cutter (13) tightly with both hands on the rear handle (5) and front handle (10).
  • Hold the rear handle (5) with your right hand and the front handle (10) with your left hand.
  • Always make sure that the cutting tool continues to rotate for a short time after the throttle lever (9) has been released.
  • Always ensure that the engine is idling properly so that the cutting tool no longer rotates when the throttle (9) is not pressed.
  • Always work at high speed to achieve the best cutting results.
  • Move the device with a uniform curved movement from left to right and back again. Then cut the next section. (Fig. 16)
  • Attention: Always move the device back into the starting position before cutting the next path.
  • If you hit a stone or another obstacle while working, switch off the engine and remove the spark plug connector (6). Check the brush cutter (13) for damage.
  • Attention: Always be particularly careful when working in difficult terrain and on slopes. Cut long grass in stages to ensure that the device is not overloaded. Trim the tips first, then work your way forward in stages.
  • Always wear safety goggles and hearing protection and a safety helmet when carrying  outthinning work.
  • When using metal cutting tools, there is always a risk of kick-back if the tool hits a solid obstacle (stones, trees, branches, etc.). The device is thrown back against the direction of rotation.
  • With wild growth and undergrowth, “plunge” the brush cutter (13) from above. This chops the material to be cut.
  • Attention! The cutting blade (15) is still running! Do not stop the cutting blade (15) with your hand.
  • Keep the cutting blade (15) / cutting unit of the brush cutter (13) away from feet.

ATTENTION:

11.1.2 Mowing with a lawn trimmer

  • Use the thread coil (16) to get a clean cut even on uneven edges, fence posts, and trees.
  • Carefully guide the trimming thread up to an obsta- cle and cut around the obstacle with the tip of the thread. If the trimming thread comes into contact with stones, trees or walls, the thread will fray prematurely or break.
  • Never replace the plastic thread with a metal wiredanger of injury!

11.1.2.1 Trimming thread automatic mode (Fig. 17)

  • The grass trimmer is supplied with a filled thread coil (16).
  • This line will wear out during work.
  • So that new thread is fed in, press the trigger (16a) on the thread coil (16) firmly on the floor with the motor running.
  • The thread is automatically released by centrifugal force. The line is cut to the correct length by the cutting blade on the shield (14a).

11.2 Working with the hedge trimmer (17)

  • The hedge trimmer is suitable for cutting hedges, bushes and shrubs.
  • Hold the hedge trimmer at a safe distance away from your body with two hands.
  • The maximum cutting diameter depends on the type of wood, the age, the moisture content and the hardness of the wood.
  • Therefore, shorten very thick branches to the appropriate length with pruning shears before trimming the hedge.
  • Thanks to the its double-sided blade, the hedge trimmer can be moved forward and backward or from one side to the other swinging it back and forth.
  • Cut the sides of the hedges first and then the top edge.
  • Cut hedges from bottom to the top.
  • Cut the hedge in a trapezoidal shape. This prevents the lower hedge area from becoming bare due to insufficient light.
  • If you want to trim the top edge of the hedge evenly, stretch a guideline across the length of the hedge.
  • Prune in several passes if heavy pruning is necessary.
  • Make sure to remove any foreign objects from the hedges (e.g. wire), since they may damage the blade of the hedge trimmer.
  • Attention! The blades are still running! Do not stop the blades with your hand.

The right time to cut:

  • Leaf hedge: June and October
  • Conifer hedge: April and August
  • Fast growing hedge: around every 6 weeks from May

Pay attention to nesting birds in the hedge. Delay the hedge cut or leave this area out if this is the case.

11.2.1 Angle adjustment
The hedge trimmer (17) can be adjusted to the working conditions by swivelling the blade head from +90° to -75°. (Fig. 19 and 20).

  • Attention! Only adjust with the engine switched off!
  • Press both unlocking levers and adjust the blade head into the required position. (Fig. 19 and 20)
  • To do this, use the adjustment lever (18).
  • Release both unlocking levers until they engage into the toothing.
  • Before commissioning, check that the unlocking levers are properly engaged.

Attention!
The blade head with the cutting unit (19) must not be completely swivelled backwards parallel to the arm of the hedge trimmer (17)! Do not work with this setting under any circumstances! This position is only used as a transport position.
Before starting work, oil the blades and the angle adjustment with environmentally friendly lubricating oil. Also oil the blade regularly while working.

Attention!
Only oil with the engine switched off!
Attention!
Incorrect use and misuse can damage the hedge trimmer and cause severe injuries due to thrown out parts.
To reduce the risk of accidents with the hedge trimmer, please note the following points:

  • Never cut shrubs or timbers with a diameter of more than 2cm.
  • Avoid contact with metal objects, stones, etc.
  • Check the hedge trimmer regularly for damage.
    Never continue to use a damaged hedge trimmer.
  • If the hedge trimmer becomes noticeably dull, it must be sharpened by a qualified specialist in accordance with the instructions. The hedge trimmer must be replaced if there is noticeable imbalance.

11.3 Working with the pole-mounted pruner (21)
11.3.1 Automatic saw chain lubrication – fine adjustment (Fig. 10).
Fill the oil tank (23) (see 8.4.3)!
The amount of oil can be reduced or increased with the adjusting screw.

  • Clockwise – the amount of oil is reduced (-)
  • Counterclockwise – the amount of oil is increased (+)

11.3.2 Checking the automatic saw chain lubrication

  • Always ensure that automatic oil system is working properly.
  • Ensure that the oil tank is always filled (23).
  • During sawing work, the guide bar (26) and the saw chain (25) must always be oiled sufficiently in order to reduce friction on the guide bar (26).
  • The guide bar (26) and the saw chain (25) must never be without oil. If you use the saw dry or with too little oil, the cutting performance reduces, the service life of the guide bar (26) is reduced, the saw chain (25) becomes blunt quicker and the guide bar
    (26) wears a great deal due to overheating. You can see that there is too little oil if smoke is produced or the guide bar (26) or saw chain (25) discolours.
  • To check the saw chain lubrication, hold the pole-mounted pruner with the saw chain (25) over a sheet of paper and give it full throttle for a few seconds.
  • The set oil quantity can be checked on the paper. The saw chain (25) must always fling a small amount of oil. After a few seconds, slight traces of oil must be visible.

11.3.3 Precautionary measures for the sawing work
Never stand directly under the branch that you want to saw off!
Possible risk of injury caused by falling branches and catapulting pieces of wood. In general, it is recommended to set the pole-mounted pruner (21) at an angle of 60° to the branch.
Hold the device firmly with both hands during the cutting process and always ensure that you are in a balanced position and have secure footing.

  • Never attempt to operate your tool with one hand.
    Losing control of your tool can lead to serious or fatal injuries. Never work on a ladder, a tree branch or any other unsafe surface.
  • Do not saw strong branches in one cut, always in several steps.
  • Place the saw chain (25) on the branch to be cut.
  • Apply light pressure to move the device, but do not overload the engine.

Before cutting, clear the work area of obstructive branches and undergrowth. Then create a retreat area away from the place where cut branches can fall and remove all obstacles.
Always keep the work area clear, remove the cut branches immediately. Pay attention to your location, the wind direction and the possible felling direction of the branches. Be prepared for fallen branches to kick back. Place all other tools and devices at a safe distance from the branches to be cut, but not in the withdrawal area.

Always monitor the condition of the tree.
Look for rot and decay in the roots and branches. If they are rotten inside, they can break off and fall unexpectedly while cutting. Also watch out for broken and dead branches that could come loose due to the vibrations and fall on you.
For very thick or tough branches, first make a small cut beneath the branch before working from top to bottom to prevent it breaking off.

Basic cutting technique
Heavy branches break off easily when sawing and long strips of bark break off from the trunk which causes lasting damage to the tree. You can significantly reduce this risk with the following cutting technique:

  • First saw the branch about 10 cm away from the trunk on the underside of the branch.
  • Make another cut about 15 cm to the trunk from above.
  • Keep sawing until the branch breaks off. There is now no longer a risk of damaging the bark on the trunk.
  • Finally, remove the remaining branch stump with a clean cut from above along the trunk.
  • To keep the damage to the tree to a minimum, we also recommend sealing the cutting area with grafting wax.

Dangers from reactive forces
Reactive forces occur during the operation of the saw chain (25). The forces that are to be applied to the wood act against the operator. They occur when the moving saw chain (25) comes into contact with a solid object such as a branch or is jammed. These forces
can lead to a loss of control and injuries.
Understanding how these forces occur can help you avoid the moment of shock and loss of control.
This saw is designed so that the kick-back effects are not as noticeable as with conventional chainsaws.

Nevertheless, always maintain a firm grip and secure footing so that you can keep control of the tool in case of doubt.

The most common effects are:

  • Kick-back
  • Recoil
  • Kick-back

Kick-back
Kick-back can occur if the running saw chain (25) strikes a solid object on the upper quarter of the guide bar (26) or becomes jammed.
The cutting force of the saw chain (25) exerts a rotational force on the saw in the opposite direction to the saw chain movement.
This leads to an upward movement of the guide bar (26).

Avoiding kick-back
The best protection is to avoid situations that lead to
kick-backs.

  • Always keep an eye on the position of the upper guide rail.
  • Never let this point come into contact with an object. Do not cut anything with it. Be particularly careful in the vicinity of wire fences and when cutting small, hard branches that can jam the saw chain (25) easily.
  • Only cut one branch at a time.

Kick-back
Retraction occurs when the saw chain (25) suddenly becomes stuck on the underside of the guide bar because it is jammed or hits a foreign object in the wood. The saw chain (25) then pulls the saw forwards. Retraction often occurs when the saw chain (25) is not running at full speed when it comes into contact with the wood.

Avoiding retraction
Be aware of the forces and situations that can lead to the saw chain (25) becoming jammed on the underside of the guide bar (26). Always start cutting with the saw chain (25) running at full speed.
Recoil
Recoil occurs when the saw chain (25) suddenly becomes stuck on the top of the guide bar because it is jammed or hits a foreign object in the wood.
The saw chain (25) can then suddenly push the saw towards the operator. Recoil often occurs when the top of the guide bar is being used for cutting.
Avoiding recoil
Be aware of the forces and situations that can lead to the saw chain (25) becoming jammed on the top of the guide bar. Do not cut more than one branch at a time. Do not tilt the guide bar (26) to the side when pulling it out of a cutting slit, as this could jam the saw chain (25).

Transport (Fig. 2/3)

If you want to transport the device, empty the fuel tank (see 9.3.1). Clean coarse dir t from the device using a brush or a hand brush.
Always attach the protective cover (15a, 20 and 27) to the cutters when not in use, during transport or storage.
The device must be secured against tipping and slipping during transport in vehicles in order to prevent damage and injuries.

Maintenance

ATTENTION:
Incorrect or insufficient maintenance can lead to accidents or damage to the device.
Always wear protective gloves during all work on and around the cutting tools.
Always attach the protective cover (15a, 20 and 27) to the cutters when not in use, during transport or storage.

Always shut the engine down and remove the spark plug connector (6) before carrying out any maintenance and cleaning work.

  • Do not spray the device with water. This damages the engine.
  • Clean the device with a cloth, hand brush, etc.
  • Use a damp cloth to clean the plastic parts. Do not use cleaning agents, solvents or sharp objects.
  • When using the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13), for technical reasons wet grass and weeds wrap around the drive axle beneath the shield (14) while working. Remove this, otherwise the engine will overheat due to excessive friction. (Fig. 18)

Clean and maintain the device before storing it.
13.1 Regular checks
Note that the following information relates to normal use.
Under certain circumstances (longer daily work, heavy levels of dust, etc.), shorten the intervals spec- ified accordingly.
Before starting work, after filling the tank, after an impact or if dropped:

  • Check the cutting tools for firm seating, general visual inspection for cracks and damage.
  • Replace damaged or blunt cutting tools immediately, even with hairline cracks.
  • Sharpen the cutting tools (also if necessary).

Weekly check:

  • Gear lubrication (also if necessary).

If necessary:

  • Tighten the accessible fastening screws and nuts.

Excessive wear and damage to the device can be prevented if the specifications in this user manual are adhered to.

13.2 Maintenance of the engine drive unit (1)
13.2.1 Replacing and cleaning the spark plug (Fig. 21)
Check the electrode gap of the spark plug (49) at least once a year or regularly if starting is poor.
The correct distance between the ignition flag and ignition contact is 0.7 mm.

  • Wait until the engine has cooled down completely.
  • Remove the spark plug connector (6) from the spark plug (49).
  • Unscrew the spark plug (49) with the supplied spark plug wrench (30).
  • If the electrode is worn excessively or if it is very encrusted, the spark plug (49) must be replaced with one of the same type.
  • Heavy incrustation on the spark plug (49) can be caused by: Too high a proportion of oil in the petrol mixture, poor oil quality, outdated petrol mixture, or blocked air filter.
  • Screw the spark plug (49) into the thread completely by hand. Avoid tilting the spark plug (49).
  • Tighten the spark plug (49) with the supplied spark plug wrench (30).
  • When using a torque wrench, the tightening torque is 12-15 Nm.
  • Push the spark plug connector (6) back onto the spark plug (49) properly.

13.2.2 Cleaning the air filter (Fig. 22)
Fouled air filters diminish the engine output due to reduced air supply to the carburettor. Dust and pollen clog the pores of the air filter. Regular inspection is therefore essential.

  • Loosen the air filter retaining screw (51).
  • Tighten the air filter cover (50).
  • Remove the air filter foam insert (52).
  • Replace the air filter cover (50) so that nothing falls into the air duct.
  • Clean the air filter by knocking out or blowing out with compressed air.
  • Re-install the air filter in reverse order.

Attention:
Never clean the air filter with petrol or combustible solvents.
In order to prolong the service life of the engine, a damaged air filter must be replaced immediately.

Never leave the engine running if the air filter element is not inserted.

13.2.3 Adjusting the carburettor
If the idle speed is too high or too low, the carburettor must be adjusted.
Only have qualified personnel carry out carburettor adjustments!

13.3 Maintenance of the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13)
13.3.1 Replacement of the thread coil/cutting thread (Fig. 23-26)

  • Remove the thread coil (16) from the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13).
  • Pull the coil cover (53) off the thread coil (16) by firmly pressing the retaining lugs (54) (Fig. 23).
  • Remove the thread ho l der (55) w ith the thread remnants.
  • Take the new thread holder and pull out 10 cm of both threads.
  • Now place the thread holder (55) on the conical pointed spring and guide both threads through the eyelets (56) on the thread coil (16).
  • Now place the coil cover (53) on the new thread coil. Turn it so that the recesses in the coil cover (53) align with the eyelets (56) of the thread coil (16).
  • Now press the thread cover (53) together with the thread holder (55) until it engages in the thread coil (16).
  • The cutting blade (14a) in the shield (14) shortens the thread to the correct length when the machine starts up again.

Alternatively, just the thread can be replaced:

  • Remove the thread coil (16) from the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13).
  • Pull the coil cover (53) off the thread coil (16) by firmly pressing the retaining lugs (54) (Fig. 23).
  • Remove the thread ho l der (55) w ith the thread remnants.
  • Remove the thread remnants from the thread holder (55).
  • Take a new line in the middle and hook it to the retaining lug (57) of the thread holder (55) (Fig. 25).
  • Wrap the new line on the thread holder (55) as shown in Fig. 26. The end of the thread must protrude approx. 10 cm.
  • Now place the thread holder (55) on the conical pointed spring and guide both threads through the eyelets (56) on the thread coil (16).
  • Now place the coil cover (53) on the thread coil (16). Turn it so that the recesses in the coil cover (53) align with the eyelets (56) of the thread coil (16).
  • Now press the thread cover (53) together with the thread holder (55) until it engages in the thread coil (16).
  • The cutting blade (14a) in the shield (14) shortens the thread to the correct length when the machine starts up again.

13.3.2 Grinding the cutting blade (14a) (Fig. 7)
The cutting blade (14a) can become blunt over time.

  • If you notice this, loosen the screws securing the cutting blade (14a) to the shield (14).
  • Then fasten the cutting blade (14a) in a bench vice.
  • Gr ind the cut t ing edge of the cut t ing blade (14a) using a flat file and make sure to maintain the angle of the cutting edge.
  • Important! Replace the cutting blade (14a) in the shield (14).

Replace or sharpen the cutting blade (14a) at the end of each mowing season or as needed.

13.3.3 Grinding the cutting blade (15)
If the blades become slightly dull, you can sharpen them yourself.

  • Fasten the cutting blade (15) in a bench vice.
  • Grind all 3 blades of the cutting blade (15) using a flat file and make sure to maintain the angle of the cutting edge. (~25°) Only file in one direction.
  • The cutting blade (15) must be replaced after sharpening them five times at the latest.

Replace the cutting blade (15) if the cutting edge is heavily worn or broken.
The brush cutter may vibrate strongly if the cutting blade (15) is not balanced. Thus there is a danger of injury!

13.3.4 Lubricating the brush cutter / grass trimmer (13) (Fig. 27)
Treat with lithium-based grease. Remove the screw (58) and put in the grease, turn the shaft manually until the grease comes out.
Then refit the screw (58).
Attention! Top up with only a little grease. Under no circumstances overfill.

13.4 Maintenance of the hedge trimmer (17)
13.4.1 Lubricate the transmission of the hedge trimmer (17) (Fig. 28)
Lubricate the drive every 10 to 20 operating hours.
Treat with lithium-based grease. Remove the maintenance screws (59) and put in the grease. Then refit the maintenance screws (59).

Attention!
Top up with only a little grease. Under no circumstances overfill.
Oil the hedge trimmer (17) and the angle adjustment with environmentally friendly lubricating oil.

13.4.2 Visual inspection of the hedge trimmer
Check the hedge trimmer for obvious defects such as:

  • loose fastenings
  • worn or damaged components
  • bent, broken or damaged cutting device
  • covers or protective devices correctly mounted and intact.
  • Wear, especially sliding clearance of the cutting device.
    Replace damaged or blunt cutting tools immediately, even if only slightly damaged.

13.5 Maintenance of the pole-mounted pruner (21)
13.5.1 Looking after the guide bar (26) and the pole-mounted pruner (21)
Turn the guide bar (26) over every time the saw chain (25) is sharpened or replaced. This will prevent wearing the guide bar (26) on one side, especially at the tip and the underside.
Regularly clean the following parts of the pole-mounted pruner (21):
1 = the opening for the oil feed
2 = the oil channel
3 = the circumferential groove of the rail

13.5.2 Maintenance and sharpening of the saw chain (25)
The properly sharpened saw chain (25)
A properly sharpened saw chain (25) goes effor tlessly through the wood and requires very little pressure.
Do not work with a dull or damaged saw chain (25). It increases physical exertion, magnifies the vibrations and leads to unsatisfactory results as well as greater wear and tear.

  • Clean the saw chain (25) regularly.
  • Check the saw chain (25) for breaks in the links and damaged rivets.
  • Sharpening a saw chain (25) should only be carried out by experienced users!
  • Note the angles and dimensions specified below.
    If the saw chain (25) is not properly sharpened or the depth gauge is too small, there is a higher risk of kick-back effects and the resulting injuries! The saw chain (25) cannot be fixed on the guide bar (26). It is therefore best to remove the saw chain (25) from the guide bar (15) and then sharpen it.
  • Select a sharpening tool that is suitable for the chain pitch.

The chain pitch (e.g. 3/8”) is marked in the depth gauge of each blade.
Only use files specifically for saw chains!
Other files have the wrong shape and the wrong edge. Select the diameter of the file according to your chain pitch. Be sure to also note the following angles when sharpening the chain blades.

A = file angle
B = angle of the side plate

Furthermore, the angle must be maintained for all blades.
If the angles are uneven, the saw chain (25) will run erratically, wear out quickly and break prematurely.

Since these requirements can only be met with sufficient and regular practice:

  • Use a file holder.
  • A file holder must be used when sharpening the saw chain (25) by hand. The correct filing angles are marked on it.
  • Hold the file horizontally (at the correct angle to the guide bar (26) and file according to the angle marking on the file holder. Support the file holder on the  top plate and the depthgauge.
  • Always file the blade from the inside out.
  • The file only sharpens as it moves forward. Lift the file off as you move backwards.
  • Do not touch the fastening straps or dynamic links with the file.
  • Turn the file regularly to avoid wear on one side.
  • Use a piece of hard wood to remove the burr from cutting edges.

All blades must have the same length, otherwise they will also be of different heights.
This causes the saw chain (25) to run erratically and increases the danger of breaking.

13.5.3 Lubricating the pole-mounted pruner transmission (Fig. 29)
Lubricate the drive every 10 to 20 operating hours.

  • Apply the grease gun to the grease nipple (60).
  • Squeeze some grease into it.

Attention!
Top up with only a little grease. Under no circumstances overfill.
13.6 Wearing parts
Even when used as intended, some components are subject to normal wear and tear. These must be replaced regularly depending on the type and duration of use. These parts include the cutting tool and the retaining plate.

Cleaning and storage

14.1 Cleaning

  • Keep the handles free of oil so that you always have a secure grip.
  • If necessary, clean the device with a damp cloth and, if necessary, with a mild flushing liquid.

  • Pull out the spark plug connector before cleaning.
  • Never immerse the device in water or other liquids for cleaning .
  • Store the device in a secure and dry place and out of reach of children.

14.2 Storage
Clean and maintain the device before storing it.
Caution:
Never stow the device for longer than 30 days without carrying out the following steps:

Stowing the device for more than 30 days
If you stow the device for longer than 30 days, it must be prepared ahead of time. Otherwise, the remaining fuel in the carburettor will evaporate and leave a rubbery sediment behind. This could make it difficult to start and result in expensive repair work.

  • Drain the fuel (see 9.3.1).
  • Start the engine and let it run until it stops in order to remove the fuel from the carburettor.
  • Allow the engine to cool down (approx. 5 minutes).
  • Remove the spark plug (see 13.2.1).
  • Add 1 teaspoon of clean 2-stroke oil to the combustion chamber.
  • Pull the starter cable slowly several times to coat the internal components.
  • Re-insert the spark plug (see 13.2.1).

Note:
Store the device in a dry location, far away from potential sources of ignition, such as furnaces, hot water boilers with gas, gas dryers, etc.

14.3 Re-commissioning after a long period of storage

  • Remove the spark plug (see 13.2.1).
  • Pull the starter cable quickly to remove excess oil from the combustion chamber.
  • Clean the spark plug and make sure that the electrode gap on the spark plug is correct. Or insert a new spark plug with the correct electrode gap.
  • Re-insert the spark plug (see 13.2.1).
  • Prepare the device for operation.

  • Before disposing of the unit, the fuel tank and the motor oil tank must be emptied!

Warranty

Apparent defects must be notified within 8 days from the receipt of the goods. Otherwise, the buyerís rights of claim due to such defects are invalidated. We guarantee for our machines in case of proper treatment for the time of the statutory warranty period  from delivery in such a way that we replace any machine part free of charge which provably becomes unusable due to faulty material or defects of fabrication within such period of time. With respect to parts not manufactured by us we only warrant insofar as we are entitled to warranty claims against the upstream suppliers. The costs for the installation of the new parts shall be borne by the buyer. The cancellation of sale or the reduction of purchase price as well as any other claims for damages shall be excluded.
