Host labeling requirement (FCC/IC IDs) FCC ID: MRBSATEL-TA40; IC: 2422A-SATELTA40
Modem pause length parameter range 3–255 characters (default: 3)
Channel spacing options 25, 20, or 12.5 kHz
Frequency divisibility rules 12.5/25 kHz spacing: frequency is any 6250 Hz divisible frequency; 20 kHz spacing: frequency is any 10000 Hz divisible frequency
Transmitter output power (SL set values) 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 mW
Transmitter output power example table note Table header “Transmitter output power levels” is present; exact full mapping is not fully included in the extracted text
Receiver sensitivity (examples shown) 12.5 kHz: 9600 bps → −102 dBm (FEC ON, 2/3 coding); −102 dBm marked with notes; values reference FEC ON, 3/4 coding always enabled (exact additional figures not fully shown in extraction)
RSSI availability timing (after message) 7 s after receiving the message
RSSI signal threshold range & default −80 … −118 dBm; default −118 dBm; feature is OFF when value is −118 dBm
SL command timeout recommendation 500 ms safe timeout (typical response ~100 ms and upwards)
Command Mode entry method Send three “+” characters via serial port with at least three bytes delay (per Pause Length setting) between each character

Quick Setup / Use Steps

  1. Confirm host labeling: Ensure the SATEL-TR4+ product identifiers are visible on the host device chassis (FCC ID: MRBSATEL-TA40, IC: 2422A-SATELTA40, and the model name as required by the example).
  2. Configure serial “Pause length”: Set Pause length between 3 and 255 characters (default 3). This pause detection is used for SL command recognition and determining end of radio transmission.
  3. Use SL commands (when enabled): Send an SL command as a continuous character string separated from other data by pauses equal to or greater than the Pause length parameter. Termination may occur with CR (0x0d) or LF (0x0a) provided the Pause length rule is respected. Wait for the module response (OK or ERROR); use a timeout (recommended safe timeout 500 ms).
  4. Enable Command Mode (optional): When SL commands are enabled, Command Mode forces SL command processing and disables radio Tx/Rx. To enable it, send three “+” characters with at least the required inter-byte delay (per Pause Length setting). Proceed after receiving OK.
  5. Set transmitter output power (via SL): Use the transmitter output power SL command (example provided in source) with one of these values: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 mW.

Troubleshooting

  • No response / uncertain command handling: The guide recommends implementing a timeout for SL command response recovery; typical response time is ~100 ms and upwards, with a recommended safe timeout of 500 ms.
  • SL command not recognized or unintended behavior: SL commands require pauses (>= Pause length) that separate the command string from other data. No extra characters are allowed at the end of an SL command. If data starts with “SL”, the firmware may enter continuous SL command search mode and user data may not be sent; disable SL commands to avoid this.
  • User data splitting or unreliable transmissions: Pause length controls how the modem detects pauses for end-of-transmission and SL recognition. Random pauses from non-real-time operating systems may split user data into separate radio transmissions; adjust the Pause length parameter to match the user data timing needs.
  • RSSI feature not working: RSSI threshold uses a signal threshold setting with default −118 dBm; the feature is OFF when the threshold value is −118 dBm.
