Product Usage Instructions

Setting Up Your Datalogger

  1. Insert four 1.5V batteries into the back of the datalogger to
    turn on the device.
  2. Verify that the WiFi, RMS, LOG, and Chain symbols are
    visible.
  3. Your datalogger is now connected to the network and RMS.

If Devices Have Not Been Pre-configured:

  1. Download the RMS-APP:
    • For iOS & Android Users: Search and download the RMS-APP
      from your phone’s app store onto your mobile device.
    • For Windows Users: Visit www.rotronic.com/rms/downloads from
      your device.

Attach Probe and Add the Batteries

  1. Remove the holster and back plate from the datalogger.
  2. Insert four 1.5V batteries.
  3. Connect the sensor wires to their terminals.
  4. Align the probe’s connector with the datalogger’s female
    connector and tighten the nut.
  5. Press the WiFi button for 8 seconds.
  6. Secure the back plate and return the datalogger to its
    holster.

Install Datalogger to Storage Unit

  1. Insert Probe into the Thermal Buffer: Insert
    the probe into the thermal buffer.
  2. Feed Probe into the Storage Unit: Feed the
    probe through the storage unit’s designated access port or door
    hinges.
  3. Secure Thermal Buffer to the Storage Unit:
    Place the thermal buffer on the shelf’s underside where temperature
    fluctuations are minimal.

Have your devices been pre-configured?

RMS WiFi Datalogger

1. Insert four 1.5V batteries into the back of the datalogger. This will turn on the device.
2. Verify that the WiFi, RMS, LOG and Chain symbols are visible.
3. Your datalogger is now connected to the network and to RMS. Please continue to next section.

Remove the holster and back plate from the datalogger. Insert four 1.5V batteries. Unscrew the cable holder and connect the red (+) and white (-) wires from the sensor to their terminals. Reattach the cable holder, but do not secure the back plate just yet. For HCD, PCD, TCD, or CCD probes, align the probe’s male connector with the datalogger’s female connector and tighten the nut.
Step 1 ­ Set the datalogger to provisioning mode
Push the WiFi button for 8 seconds on the rear of the device. Now, you may secure the back plate, and return the datalogger to its holster.

Step 2 ­ Connect your device to the Datalogger.
Using your laptop or phone, hereafter referred to as the “device,” open the device settings to connect to the Datalogger. When prompted, enter the network security key: 1234567890.

Step 3 ­ Add the device to the RMSAPP
From the RMS-APP, click on “Search Device” and click on “Scan WiFi”. The device connected to WiFi should appear under the Filter. Click on “Add” to add the device.

Step 4 ­ Configure the datalogger
The user will need to add the Cloud details. Under the menu “Connection”, click on the pencil sign to edit and update:
1. Ensure that the RMS Cloud Server is selected.
2. The company name. 3. A user name (with the rights to add
devices). 4. The user’s password.
Click on “Next”.

For an RMS On-premise setup, please complete the following:
1. Ensure that the Custom RMS Server is selected. 2. Add the RMS URL: http(s)///rms. 3. The company name. 4. A user name (with the rights to add devices). 5. The user’s password.

Insert Probe into the Thermal Buffer
Insert the Probe into the thermal buffer.

Feed Probe into the Storage Unit
Feed the Probe through the storage unit’s designated probe access port or through the door hinges.

Secure Thermal Buffer to the Storage Unit
Select a location for the thermal buffer on the interior of the storage unit where temperature fluctuations are least prominent on the shelf’s underside.
Secure the thermal buffer using zip ties or mounting tape.

Select the Optimal Location for Datalogger
Select a location for the datalogger that is eye-level or higher, easily accessible for readings and battery changes, within range of the probe’s cable length, and within range of the AC Power Cord length (optional).
Attach Holster to Storage Unit
Clean the surface of the determined location. Attach the Datalogger Holster to the storage unit using mounting tape or the screws provided within the package. Insert the datalogger into the holster and secure with a zip tie if required.
Insert Datalogger to Holster
Slide the datalogger into the holster secured on the storage unit. Verify you have installed the probe and batteries prior to this step.

Adding a LAN Device or Gateway
1.0 – Once logged in to RMS, click on the “TOOLS” dropdown, then click on “SETUP.”

1.1 – Under the “Devices” menu, click “New,” then click “LAN Device.”
1.2 – Enter your device’s serial number, then click “OK.”

1.3 – If entered correctly, the device’s LED will start blinking orange. Please press the button briefly to establish the connection.

Adding a Wireless Device

2.1 – Once logged in to your company, click on the “TOOLS” dropdown, then click on “SETUP.”

2.2 – Under the “Devices” menu, click “New,” then click “Wireless Device.”
2.3 – Select the connected gateway (otherwise, see “Adding a LAN Device or Gateway” section) and click “OK.”

2.4 – The RMS software will search for a new wireless device. Once discovered, please push the button directly on the device.

2.5 – The RMS software will then request the following information:
Serial number: This is the device’s serial number.
Name: Give a name to the device.
Address: Configure the address (between 1 and 60).
Interval [s]: Defines the log interval.
Group: Defines which group the device is attributed to.
Measuring point 1: The name and type are automatically filled based on which probe (or sensor) is connected to the device. Please verify they match accordingly.

2.6 – Once you’ve clicked “OK,” a notification will appear confirming your device has been added successfully. Click “OK” to close this window.

Indicates if device is currently connected to RMS. Indicates if device is currently logging values. Indicates if device is connected to an RMS account. Shows device WiFi connectivity strength. Displays battery power at High, Medium, Low, and Empty. The measured value, including alarm sign.
Parameter unit overview.
Maximum, minimum and average values. Indicates device is running correctly. Indicates if an alarm is active. Indicates if alarm setting is switched to high or low.
