INSTALLATION

NOTE: Install the stepdown transformer before or while suspending the heater. The transformer mounts on the side of the heater opposite the access door (left side when facing the front of the heater).

1. Determine where to install the transformer bracket (refer to installation manual provided with unit):
   1. For models UDAP, UDAS, UDX, and UDZ, bracket is installed in unused 3/8-inch suspension hole on top of heater. If two-point suspension is used, locate hole near back of heater. If the four-point suspension is used, locate the center hole.
   2. For models UDBP, UDBS, UBX, and UBZ, the bracket is installed on the hanger bar at the suspension point and MUST be done as part of the suspension process.
2. On back of the transformer bracket flange that will be against the heater cabinet, position the transformer bracket gasket at bottom of the bracket and carefully peel off the backing and adhere the gasket.
3. Install transformer bracket at a location determined in step 1:
   1. For models UDAP, UDAS, UDX, and UDZ secure the bracket using a capscrew, flat washer, and lock washer (see Figure 1, DETAIL A).
   2. For models UDBP, UDBS, UBX, and UBZ, secure the bracket at the suspension point using a field-supplied hanger rod or optional swivel and field-supplied 3/8-inch hex nuts and lock washers (see Figure 1, DETAIL B)
      CAUTION
      The transformer has primary and secondary voltages—note the wire colors and use care when making transformer wiring connections.
4. Connect transformer wiring:
   1. Run black, white, and green wires through 3/8-inch conduit.
   2. Install anti-short bushing on each end of conduit.
   3. Install straight conduit connector on the transformer—either at the knockout hole in left side or in the bottom. Run black, white, and green wires through connector, connect wires to the transformer using wire connectors in accordance with the wiring diagram on the transformer and connect straight conduit connector to conduit.
      NOTE: Depending on the transformer, it is secured either to the installed mounting bracket or to a secondary bracket included with the transformer.
5. Install transformer on transformer bracket and secure using sheet metal screws. If transformer has integral mounting foot, install as shown in Figure 2, DETAIL A. If transformer has slot in back and secondary bracket, slide transformer slot over top of secondary bracket and install as shown in Figure 2, DETAIL B.
6. Connect supply wiring to transformer:
   1. Install 90-degree conduit connector at line voltage inlet on rear of heater so that entrance is facing fan or blower.
   2. Run 3/8-inch conduit from transformer to bottom rear of heater and across to 90-degree conduit connector. Run black, white, and green wires through connector and connect conduit to connector.
   3. Locate cabinet screw in path of conduit. Remove screw and use it to secure conduit to cabinet using conduit clamp.
   4. Remove heater access panel and connect supply wiring to taps inside the transformer in accordance with wiring diagram on transformer label.
7. Complete heater installation in accordance with installation and venting manuals provided with unit.
