SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Before using this electrical appliance, read the instructions below carefully and keep the user’s manual for future reference:

  1.  Before plugging the appliance into an electrical socket, check that the specifications of the local electric current are consistent with those indicated on the appliance’s nameplate. Always plug your appliance into an earthed wall socket.
  2. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
  3. This appliance shall not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
  4. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.
  5. Children shall not play with the appliance. Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
  6. Unplug the power plug from the electrical socket when you are not using the appliance and before cleaning it.
  7. Warning! Do not submerge the power cord, the electric plug or the appliance in water or in any other liquid! Never place the appliance under running water! The appliance must not be immersed.
  8. Warning! Avoid spillage on the connector.
  9. The appliance must not be used with an external timer or separate remote-control system or be connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility.
  10. WARNING: Risk of burns! Be careful not to get burned by the steam during the brewing cycles. Some parts of the appliance are hot when operated, do not touch them. Use handles or knobs only. The surfaces are subject to residual heat after use. Allow to cool completely and disconnect from the power supply before cleaning, changing accessories, approaching parts that move in use, or when moving the appliance.
  11. This appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as: staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments:
    – farm houses;
    – by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments;
    – bed and breakfast type environments;
    – indoor areas for private homes and home environments;
    – places with an altitude of less than 2000 metres.
  12. Regarding the instructions for cleaning surfaces in contact with food, thanks to refer to the below paragraph “Cleaning and Care” in manual.
  13. Regarding the instructions for the use of accessories, operation times and speed settings, refer to the below paragraphs.
  14. Place the appliance on a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface.
  15. Switch off the appliance and disconnect from supply before changing accessories or approaching parts that move in use.
  16. Always turn off the appliance before unplugging it.
  17. Plug the power plug into an easily accessible electrical socket to be able to immediately unplug the appliance in the event of an emergency. Unplug the power plug from the electrical socket to completely power off the appliance. Use the power plug to fully disconnect from the power supply. Always hold the plug, never pull the cord.
  18. Always disconnect the appliance from the supply if it is left unattended and before assembling, disassembling or cleaning.
  19. Never use a damaged appliance! Unplug the appliance from the electrical socket and contact the retailer if it is damaged.
  20. WARNING: Risk of electric shock! Do not try to repair the device yourself. In the event of a malfunction, repairs must be carried out by qualified personnel.
  21. Do not use the appliance with wet hands or if you find yourself on a wet floor. Do not touch the power plug with wet hands.
  22. Never under any circumstances open the appliance’s housing. Do not insert any foreign object in the housing.
  23. Do not place any heavy objects on the appliance.
  24. Do not place any objects that give off a flame (e.g. candles) on or near the appliance. Do not place any objects containing water (e.g. vases) on or near the appliance.
  25. Risk of suffocation! Keep all packaging elements out of the reach of children and babies!
  26. Warning icon Never misuse; otherwise, it may cause potential injury.

  29. Warning icon WARNING: Risk of injury! Never insert fingers in the grinding tray. Always unplug the machine before attempting to remove any blockages.
  30. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  31. Do not hang the power cord over the edge of table or counter.
  32. Ensure the power cord does not touch the hot surfaces of appliance.
  33. Do not place the coffee maker on a hot surface or beside a heat source or open flame (such as a gas or electric hob or oven) to prevent it being damaged.
  34. Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended use.
  35. Do not use the appliance outdoors.
  36. Never place the coffee machine in a cabinet when it is in use.
  37. This appliance should be placed or stored in an environment above 4°C to avoid freezing of the internal water pipe of the machine and prevent it from malfunctioning.
  38. Never use the coffee machine without water.

BEFORE FIRST USE

4.1. UNPACKING
■ Unpack the appliance and remove all packaging materials.
■ Check the appliance has no visible damage and no parts are missing.
■ Before using the appliance for the first time, or before using it after a period of prolonged storage, clean the appliance and accessories, following the instructions in the CLEANING AND CARE section.

4.2. ASSEMBLY

Check all parts are correctly assembled:

  1. Slot the drip tray with cover into position below the coffee outlet.
    NOTE: The drip tray collects water from the coffee outlet during each rinse and auto clean, as well as excess coffee that may drip after brewing. Therefore, empty the drip tray daily.
  2. Make sure the coffee grinder inside the coffee bean tray is correctly installed and that the coffee bean tray lid is placed on top of the coffee bean tray.
  3. Open the door to check that the coffee grinds bin is horizontally placed on top of the coffee grinds drip tray inside the coffee machine. If the warning indicator warning 2 flashes, one of these parts is incorrectly assembled. Remove and reassemble until the warning indicator light turns off.
  4. The steam wand is in place under the steam handle. Simply pull off to remove and push on to attach the steam wand in a vertical position.
  5. The brewing capsule must be firmly fixed into place. If the warning indicator warning 2 lights up constantly, the brewing capsule is incorrectly assembled.
    ■ To remove, press the two orange clips together and pull it out.
    ■ To install, align the arrow on the brewing capsule with the arrow on the bracket that holds the brewing capsule into place. Push the brewing capsule into the slot until it firmly clicks into place.
  6. If the coffee bean grinder has been removed for cleaning, check that it is correctly installed (→ CLEANING THE COFFEE BEAN GRINDER).

OPERATION

Place the coffee machine on a flat, level, and dry surface.

5.1. FILLING THE WATER TANK
■ Turn off the appliance.
■ Lift up the water tank and remove it from the appliance.
■ Push the water tank lid open.
■ Rinse and fill the water tank with drinking water up to the MAX level mark and close the lid.
The water level should not exceed the MAX level mark.
■ If there is insufficient water in the coffee machine, the refill water tank indicator light Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 7 turns on and the hot water button indicator light flashes. Fill the water tank immediately.
■ The water tank can also be filled with a jug without removing it from the appliance.
■ To reattach the water tank, slot the water tank back onto the machine.

5.2. FILLING THE COFFEE BEAN TRAY

■ Lift the coffee bean tray cover off.
■ Turn the grinder setting dial clockwise or anticlockwise and line up your chosen setting with the arrow (1 = finest grinding setting and 15 = coarsest grinding setting). We recommend using the grinding setting 8 or higher to begin with and then adjust to suit your preferences.
■ Fill with coffee beans up to a maximum of 200 g.
■ Put the coffee bean tray cover back on the appliance.
■ The empty coffee bean indicator Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 8 illuminates constantly when the coffee bean tray is empty. Refill the coffee bean tray and the indicator light will turn off.

5.3. PREPARING COFFEE/HOT WATER

  1. Check and fill the water tank and coffee bean tray as required.
  2. Plug the power cord into the power socket on the back of the appliance.
  3. Insert the plug into the mains socket.
  4. Press the power on/off switch on the rear of the coffee machine to the on position (I). The coffee machine enters sleep mode.
  5. Place a cup under the coffee outlet. If necessary, adjust the height of the coffee outlet by sliding it up or down. The height range is from 85 mm to 115 mm.
  6. Touch the on/off button and it will flash slowly. Touch and hold the on/off button to start the automatic cleaning and preheating programs on the coffee machine.
    ■ The cleaning button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 4 illuminates constantly and the on/off button INSIGNIA NS HTSB20S 2 0 Channel 20 in Soundbar - Symbol 1 flashes. When the cleaning and preheating have finished, all buttons light up constantly in standby mode. The coffee machine is ready to use.
  7. Touch the desired program to start making coffee or pouring hot water:

    Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Hot water Hot water Remains constant when hot water is ready to be dispensed and while it is being dispensed.
    NOTE: The cup capacity should be greater than 120ml.
  8. Touch the program button again to cancel it at any time.
  9. After brewing, the appliance enters standby mode.
  10. Check and empty the drip tray, coffee grinds drip tray and coffed grinds bin regularly during use. The coffee outlet may drip for a short while after making coffee. Clean the underside of the coffee outlet with a cloth after use to keep it clean.
  11. Once you have finished using the coffee machine, press the on/off switch to the off position (O) and unplug the appliance to fully turn it off.
  12. Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning (→ CLEANING AND CARE).

5.4. HEATING AND FROTHING MILK
Add frothed or heated milk to a cup of coffee to make a cappuccino or latte. The steam wand can be used to steam or froth milk.
TIP: If you need to prepare several cups of cappuccino, prepare the espressos first, then froth the milk for the cappuccinos in a large jug. Bear in mind that the milk will double in volume.

  1. Make an espresso in a cappuccino cup or an americano coffee in a large cup
    (→ PREPARING COFFEE).
  2. Fill a metal jug with milk.
    ■ About 100 g (approx. 100 ml) of whole milk or half-skimmed milk for each cup of cappuccino to be prepared. It is recommended to use cold milk directly from the fridge (not hot milk).
    ■ About 125 g (approx. 125 ml) of whole milk for each cup of latte.
  3. Hold the metal jug and insert the steam wand into the milk at least 2 cm deep. You can adjust the angle the steam wand up to 42° by holding and tilting the steam wand handle.
  4. When the steam button indicator light is constantly on, the steam is sufficiently preheated and ready for use. Touch the steam button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 1 to start heating the milk and it will start to flash.
  5. Touch the steam button again to stop steaming and heating/frothing the milk.
    ■ Press the steam button on and off quickly before you put the steam wand in the milk to steam off excess water.
  6. To clean the steam wand after each use:
    ■ Wear a protective glove and pull off the metal part of the steam wand.
    ■ Flush it through with running water, wipe clean and reattach the steam wand to the coffee maker.
  7. Pour the frothed/heated milk into the espresso/Americano coffee. The cappuccino/latte is ready to serve.
  8. Once you have finished using the coffee machine, press the on/off switch to the off position (O) and unplug the appliance to fully turn it off.
  9. Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning (→ CLEANING AND CARE).

warning 2 WARNING:
■ Never leave the appliance unattended during use. Turn off the appliance after each use.
■ Metal accessories and metal surfaces of the appliance become hot during use and remain hot for some time after use. Do not touch hot surfaces. Always use handles and knobs.
■ Beware of hot water and escaping steam from the steam wand during normal use. Always keep your face and hands at a safe distance when using the machine.

5.5. SETTING THE DISPENSING AMOUNT
The amount of coffee that is dispensed can be changed.

■ Single-cup espresso – from 40 ml to 120 ml
■ Lungo espresso – from 40 ml to 120 ml
■ Americano coffee – from 40 ml to 120 ml

  1. Set the machine up to make a coffee.
  2. Make 1 portion of the coffee that you want to change the dispensing amount of: touch and hold for 2 seconds either the single-cup espresso, Lungo espresso, or Americano coffee button to enter the setting mode. A buzzer sounds and the relevant cup button will flash.
  3. Touch the single-cup espresso, Lungo espresso, or Americano coffee button again to start dispensing coffee. The relevant cup button will flash.
  4. When the desired level is reached, touch the relevant cup button again to stop pouring and save the newly set dispensing level.
  5. To return to the factory dispensing amount, touch and hold the single-cup and Lungo espresso buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds.

5.6. AUTO-OFF FUNCTION
The coffee machine is designed to turn off automatically if no button is pressed within 28 minutes.

5.7. ENERGY-SAVING FUNCTION

  1. When the coffee machine is in standby mode, touch and hold the on/off button until the display turns off and the appliance enters sleep mode. If you have made a coffee, the machine will conduct an auto-clean before entering sleep mode.
  2. When the coffee machine is in sleep mode, touch and hold the on/off button to wake the coffee machine up and start the automatic preheating and cleaning functions.

CLEANING AND CARE

warning 2 WARNING: Before cleaning, unplug the appliance from the power socket and allow it to cool down completely.
Electric Warning Icon WARNING: Never immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or any liquid. Never rinse them under the tap.

IMPORTANT: Never use solvents, chemical or abrasive cleaning agents, wire brushes, sharp objects or scouring pads to clean the appliance. No parts are dishwasher safe.

6.1. CLEANING
■ Wipe all external surfaces with a soft cloth moistened with water or soapy water. Dry thoroughly.
■ Remove and clean these parts as shown here:

Coffee grinds bin Empty after making 8 single-cup or 8 lungo espressos, or when the coffee grinds bin full indicator light  turns on. The indicator light turns off when the bin and is removed and emptied.
Brewing capsule Empty after making 8 single-cup or 8 Lungo coffees or when the brewing capsule indicator light displays constantly. 1. Remove by pressing the two orange clips together and then pull it out.
2. Use the brush tool on the metal base to remove any coffee grinds.
3. Rinse thoroughly under a running tap.

■ Dry all parts thoroughly before reassembling.
■ Stow the appliance in a dry, stable location away from direct sunlight on a countertop. If you do not use the appliance for a long time, clean it and store it in its original packaging in a dust-free, dry location.

6.2. CLEANING THE GROUND COFFEE CHANNELAND COFFEE BEAN GRINDER
Check and clean the ground coffee channel and the coffee bean grinder weekly.

  1. If some coffee beans remain in the coffee bean tray, touch and hold the bean-emptying button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 11 for at least 1 second to start emptying the tray. The program will run for 15 seconds. Repeat this process until all the beans are removed. Touch the bean- emptying button again to cancel this program at any time.
  2. Touch and hold the bean-emptying button and the single-cup espresso button simultaneously for 2 seconds. Both buttons will flash and the internal door in the ground coffee channel automatically opens.
  3. Lift the coffee bean tray cover off the coffee machine.
  4. Turn the coffee bean grinder setting dial anticlockwise until the tab (that is after the bean icon) aligns with the arrow. Then lift the dial off.
  5. Lift up the handle on the coffee bean grinder and twist it anticlockwise in the direction of the unlock icon Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 3 and then lift the grinder off.
  6. Use the brush to brush any coffee grounds down the tray, off the grinder rim and into the ground coffee channel. The discarded coffee grounds will fall directly into the coffee grinds tray.
  7. Open the door on the side of the coffee machine and loosen the ground coffee in the ground coffee channel with the brush or a toothpick if necessary.
  8. Reassemble the coffee machine in reverse order.
  9. Touch the bean-emptying button and the single-cup espresso button simultaneously to close the internal door in the ground coffee channel. The coffee machine will return to standby mode.

6.3. CLEANING THE BREWING SYSTEM BRACKET
Check and clean the brewing system bracket area.

  1. Touch and hold the manual clean button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 4 and the Lungo espresso button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 5 simultaneously for 1 second. You will hear the brewing system moving inside to expose some internal parts around the brewing system so that you can access the area to be cleaned.
  2. Open the door. The coffee machine is now in a safe state whereby you can clean the brewing system bracket area.
  3. After cleaning, close the door. Touch and hold the manual clean and Lungo espresso buttons simultaneously to make the machine ready for use. It is very important that you complete this step to ensure that the internal parts that were moved to give access to  the cleaning area go back into place for normal brewing operations.

6.4. CLEANING THE COFFEE BREWING AND STEAMING SYSTEMS

  1. Fully assemble the coffee machine.
  2. Fill the water tank with water to the MAX level mark.
  3. Close the water tank lid.
  4. Place a sufficiently large container under the drip tray.
  5. Touch the on/off power button to turn the coffee machine on.
  6. Touch and hold the manual clean button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 4 to start cleaning. When the 6 control panel buttons flash slowly, the coffee machine is cleaning the coffee brewing and steaming systems. Touch the manual clean button again to cancel and stop cleaning at any time. Once the cleaning cycle is finished, the coffee machine will return to standby mode.

6.5. DESCALING
To ensure the machine works efficiently, descale every 2 to 3 months or when the Americano coffee button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Americano coffee and the Lungo espresso button Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Lungo espresso flash simultaneously to alert you to descale the machine.

■ The coffee machine descaling alert will activate after 500 brewing cycles. After descaling, the system is reset to count up to another 500 brewing cycles.
■ We recommend that you use a food-grade citric acid for descaling or a commercially available descaler.

Descaling procedure

  1. Use a commercially available descaler for coffee machines and follow the instructions on the package.
  2. Fill the recommended amount of descaler in the water tank and fill the rest of the tank with tap water up to the MAX level mark.
  3. Place a sufficiently large container under the drip tray.
  4. Touch and hold the Americano coffee and Lungo espresso buttons simultaneously to start the descaling process.
    ■ The descaling procedure takes about 10 minutes. The 6 control panel buttons will flash slowly from left to right during descaling. The Americano coffee and Lungo espresso buttons stop flashing when the descaling process has finished.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem Cause Solution
The refill water tank indicator light “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 7” flashes. The water tank has insufficient water. Refill the water tank with water.
The warning indicator light “warning 2” flashes. The grinder setting dial and/or the coffee grinds drip tray are incorrectly installed. Uninstall and then reinstall these parts until the warning indicator light turns off.
The warning indicator light “warning 2” illuminates constantly. The brewing capsule or coffee grinds drip tray is incorrectly installed.
The empty coffee bean tray indicator light “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 8” illuminates constantly. The coffee bean tray has insufficient beans. Fill the coffee bean tray with coffee beans. Run the coffee machine to brew coffee, then the empty coffee bean tray indicator light turns off.

The coffee grinds bin and

tray are full.

Remove and empty the coffee grinds bin and tray and reinstall the parts. After 2 seconds, the coffee grinds bin full indicator light turns off.
The brewing capsule cleaning indicator light “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 9” illuminates constantly. The brewer capsule is too dirty. Remove and clean the brewing capsule and then reinstall it. After 2 seconds, the brewing capsule cleaning indicator light turns off.
The single-cup espresso button “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Single-cup espresso” and warning indicator lights “warning 2” flash at the same time. The coffee bean grinder may be blocked or incorrectly installed. 1. Turn off the appliance and restart it.
2. Clean/reinstall the ground coffee channel, the coffee bean grinder setting dial and the coffee bean grinder.
The empty coffee bean tray indicator “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 8” and warning indicator lights “warning 2” flash at the same time. All functions are disabled. The appliance is overheating due to over grinding. A maximum of 16 continuous grinding cycles is permitted,

and the time for each grinding must be less than 5 minutes.

Turn off the appliance and leave it to rest for 5 minutes, then restart it.
The manual clean button “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 4” and the warning indicator lights “warning 2” flash at the same time. There is a blockage in the water system, or the water tank has insufficient water. 1. Fill the water tank with water.
2. Run the manual clean function.
The manual clean button “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 4”, single-cup espresso “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Single-cup espresso” and warning indicator lights “warning 2” flash at the same time. The brewing motor is not work normally. 1. Turn off the appliance and restart it.
2. Please contact the service department if the problem cannot be solved.
The crema is not rich. The ground coffee is too coarse. Turn the grinder setting dial clockwise to a finer setting.
The type of coffee bean used is wrong. Use coffee beans which are suitable for brewing espresso.
Coffee comes out slowly or comes out drip by drip. The ground coffee is too fine. Turn the grinder setting dial anticlockwise to select a coarser setting.
Coffee does not come out of the coffee outlet. The coffee outlet is blocked. Clean the coffee outlet with a toothpick.
The machine cannot be activated. The power plug is not plugged in or incorrectly plugged in. Remove/connect the power plug.
The power switch and/or on/off button is not turned on. Turn on power switch and touch the on/off button.
The brewing capsule cannot be removed. The machine is not turned off. Turn the machine off and then on again.
The brewing capsule is blocked. Contact the after-sales department.
Both the coffee grinds bin full indicator light “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 2” and brewing capsule cleaning indicator light “Qilive Q.5429 Automatic Espresso Machine - Symbol 9” are on. The coffee grinds bin is full, and the brewing capsule is dirty or incorrectly installed. Empty the coffee grinds bin and clean the brewing capsule when the coffee machine is turned on. Wait 8 seconds and then reinstall the parts.
The coffee grinds bin is not full, but the machine prompts you to empty the coffee grinds bins or clean the brewing capsule. The counter is not reset after emptying the residue-collection container or cleaning the brewer. The appliance must be turned on when emptying or  cleaning the coffee grinds bin and brewing capsule and you must wait for at least 3 seconds before reinstalling the parts so that the counter can reset to zero.
The coffee machine can grind coffee beans  but no coffee comes out. The coffee beans may be too damp or oily when ground, which can block the ground coffee channel. Follow the instructions in the CLEANING THE GROUND COFFEE CHANNEL AND COFFEE BEAN GRINDER section to unblock the appliance.
The coffee machine is making a lot of noise. It is normal for a coffee machine to make noise during operation. If the coffee machine starts to make abnormal noises and normal cleaning of the machine doesn’t resolve the problem, contact the after-sales department for further assistance and repair.
