Overview

This manual provides installation, ducting/recirculating options, filter and blower pack installation, and basic safety, warranty, and maintenance guidance for Proline CL, Hurricane, INS, and UMOD insert range hood models.

Quick Setup

1. Plan the installation: Confirm the hood model, installation type (vented or optional recirculating), and duct route/requirements.
2. Pre-install inspection: Unpack and inspect for shipping damage; verify lights and blower operation; remove any protective film from stainless steel surfaces and filters.
3. Prepare electrical: Ensure wiring is installed/grounded by a licensed electrician per local codes. (Hurricane may be hardwired or fitted with a suitable cord/plug where permitted.)
4. Install ducting (vented) or charcoal filters (recirculating): For vented installs, route ductwork to the outdoors using best-practice ducting rules. For recirculating installs, install charcoal filters (not washable) and ensure the enclosure has a clear air discharge path.
5. Install blower pack (if needed for your model): Position the blower pack inside the hood cavity; connect blower wiring harness(es) and test lights/blower via the control panel before reinstalling filters.
6. Mount the hood: Follow the cabinet/enclosure mounting sequence for your cabinet type; secure the hood using the described attachment method for your model.
7. Install grease tray (if applicable): Install into the rear channel, slide until fully seated, level and secure, then continue to final assembly.
8. Install baffle filters: Install the specific filters provided with your hood model; handle with care and do not disassemble filters.
9. Final checks and maintenance: Confirm the hood is level/aligned, connection seals (where applicable) are secure, and filters are properly installed. Clean filters/grease trays/hood every few weeks under normal use.

Safety Information

Ask a qualified professional such as a licensed general contractor to install your range hood. Electrical wiring must be installed, insulated, and grounded by a licensed electrician familiar with your local codes and regulations. If you don’t have this background, do not install the hood yourself. Poor installation or electrical work may result in an injury.

• Range hoods can be heavy to mount, so always ask a friend for help.
• Wear protective gloves when handling the range hood and its filters. The edges can be sharp.
• For residential use only. Do not install your hood in a restaurant or other commercial environment. Our hoods do not comply with the rules and regulations for commercial use.
• Do not use your hood to vent hazardous or explosive materials and vapors. This is incredibly dangerous and may result in serious injury.
• When cleaning the unit, make sure the power is turned off.
• When troubleshooting or replacing the touch panel, circuit board, or other electrical components, turn the power to the range hood off.
• Check your local codes and regulations to see what type of ductwork is required. Some codes require rigid metal ductwork. Do not use flex duct for your range hood, as it can wear down quickly. Air may escape into your walls or attic.
• Never vent your ducted hood into an attic, joists in your ceiling, or a soffit. Always vent the hood to the outside to keep grease, smoke, and unwanted contaminants out of your home.
• Avoid electrical wiring when drilling a hole into your wall or ceiling for ductwork.
• Clean or replace old ductwork with new rigid ductwork to prevent potential grease fires and increase the efficiency of your range hood.
• Seal all joints in your duct system with aluminum tape to prevent air from escaping in your walls or attic.
• Check your local regulations to determine if you need make-up air. When a range hood vents air out of your home, that air has to be replaced. If you operate a powerful range hood (600+ CFM) in a small kitchen, you may need make-up air. We do not sell make-up air kits.
• Clean your range hood filters, grease trays, and the range hood every few weeks. Heavy grease buildup shortens the life of your hood, and it may lead to a grease fire.
• All Proline range hoods are ETL certified. They meet all industry standards and regulations to ensure your safety.
• Use the high setting on your range hood to vent heavy smoke or heat in case of emergency. Otherwise, use the lower settings to prolong the life of your hood.
• While your range hood is on, do not leave your cooking area unattended.
• When cooking with oils, do not heat them past their smoke point. If oil starts smoking, turn off the burner and discard any food that came into contact with it. Do not use extra virgin olive oil in high heat, since it starts to smoke at around 300º Fahrenheit.

In the event of a grease fire

• Smother the flames with a large lid, pan, or baking sheet. If the fire is small, smother it with baking soda or salt. For larger fires, use a fire extinguisher.
• Turn off all burners.
• Do not touch a flaming pan. This may result in serious burns.
• Keep all flammable materials away from the grease fire. This may include nail polish remover, flour, rubbing alcohol, and hand sanitizer, among other household items.
• Do not pour water on a grease fire. Water will spread the oil around, making the fire more potent and dangerous. Wet towels and rags will also spread the oil, so avoid using these as well.
• If you cannot contain the fire, call the fire department immediately.

Warranty

Proline 3-Year Warranty
All of our range hoods have a three-year warranty. For the first year, we cover parts and labor. This doesn’t include installation. For the second and third years of your warranty, we’ll cover parts only. This warranty covers every part of your range hood except the following:

• Range hood filters
• Range hood lights
• Any dents, dings, scratches, or other damage to the outside of the hood

If you’re outside of the warranty and your hood is not working properly, call us at (801) 973-3959, and we’ll help you resolve your issue. We can typically help fix your Proline range hood at a reasonable price so you don’t have to replace the entire range hood.

Proline Return Policy
For the most accurate return policy, please scan the QR code at the back of this manual or visit our website. Printed materials may occasionally be outdated or incomplete. Always refer to our online support section for the latest information. We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. Please read the following carefully before installation or discarding packaging:

Damaged or Defective? Let Us Know Within 5 Days
If your hood arrives damaged or defective, you must notify us within 5 business days of delivery. We’ll work with you to repair, replace, or fully refund the item at no cost to you. Claims made after 5 business days will not be accepted.

Changed Your Mind Return Window Up to 30 Days
If your hood is not damaged but you still want to return it, you may request a return within 30 days of delivery. If your return is approved, a 20% restocking fee will apply.

No Returns After 30 Days
We do not accept returns under any circumstance beyond 30 days from delivery.

Installed Products Cannot Be Returned
Items that have been installed or show any signs of installation are not eligible for return.

Keep the Packaging
All returns must include the original packaging. If any part of the packaging is missing or discarded, the return will be denied.

Photo Documentation Required
To process a return request, photo documentation is required:

• If the box has been opened, you must provide 6 clear photos showing all sides of the range hood, including the top and bottom, outside of the packaging.
• If the box is unopened, please provide photos showing the factory seal on the tape has not been broken.

CHIMNEYS AND CHIMNEY EXTENSIONS ARE NOT RETURNABLE
Ensure the product is uninstalled, repackaged in the original box with all accessories, and in new condition.

Pre-Installation Checklist & Inspection

Before Installation
Before beginning installation, inspect and test the hood to verify that it was not damaged during shipping and that all components function properly.

Unpack and Inspect

• Carefully unpack the hood and verify that all components are present.
• Inspect the hood for visible shipping damage.
• Test the lights and blower to confirm proper operation.
• Remove any protective film from stainless steel surfaces and filters before installation.

Electrical Requirements
Proline insert range hoods require a standard 120V electrical connection and typically draw 5–7 amps during normal operation. Most models are equipped with a power cord and plug for connection to a properly grounded 120V outlet.

Hurricane Model
The Hurricane does not include a power cord and plug. The hood may be hardwired to the home’s electrical supply or, where permitted, fitted with an appropriate power cord and plug. An electrical junction box is provided on top of the hood to safely contain the electrical connection. Any field-made electrical connections must be enclosed within this box, with the cover securely reinstalled after connection. Electrical work should be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local electrical codes.

Important: Models equipped with heat lamps may require additional electrical capacity. A dedicated circuit is recommended. Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure whether your electrical system meets the installation requirements.

Verify Structural Support

Important: The mounting surface must support the full weight of the hood and connected ductwork.

• Do not mount the hood to drywall alone.
• Verify that adequate structural support exists at all mounting locations.
• Install additional reinforcement if necessary before beginning installation.

Confirm Your Ducting Requirements

Note: The ducting information below applies to vented installations only. For recirculating installations, refer to the Recirculating Installation section.
Before beginning installation, identify the required duct size for your model and determine the planned route to the outdoors. Make sure the route is clear of framing members, electrical wiring, plumbing, and other obstacles.
Before proceeding: Confirm that the planned route meets the ducting requirements on the following page.

Ducting

Plan Your Ductwork
Route the duct to the outdoors using the shortest, most direct path possible. Minimize elbows and other restrictions that can reduce airflow.

Venting Options
The best option is to vent vertically through the roof if possible, since hot air rises. If vertical venting is not possible, vent through a side wall. See the diagram below. Before cutting into walls or ceilings, consult a contractor if you are unsure what is inside.

Best Practices When Ducting Your Range Hood

• Include at least 18″ of straight duct from the transition before the first elbow.
• Maintain at least 18″ of straight duct between additional elbows.
• Use rigid galvanized steel or metal HVAC ducting only.
• Do not terminate ducting in an attic or enclosed area.
• Do not use 4″ (10.2 cm) laundry wall caps or plastic flexible duct.
• Do not exceed 30′ of total ductwork length.
• Do not reduce the duct size from the hood outlet diameter.
• Round ducting provides better airflow than rectangular ducting and is recommended whenever possible.
• Subtract 5′ of effective duct length for each elbow.
• Use no more than two elbows total; the fewer, the better.

Cut the Opening

• Once you’ve chosen a venting route, cut a hole 1 2 inches larger than your duct diameter in the ceiling or wall.
• Use the duct transition piece as a template for marking your opening.

Thread the Ductwork

• Thread the duct from the exterior toward the hood location.
• Use an attic or basement if available, or cut access points in walls/ceilings as needed.

Optional Recirculating (Ductless) Installation Considerations

The following considerations apply only to recirculating (ductless) installations. Recirculating installations allow the hood to operate without exterior ducting by filtering and returning air back into the room. This installation method may simplify installation in certain homes or cabinet configurations, but several important considerations should be reviewed before proceeding.

Airflow Considerations
Recirculating installations must allow filtered air to freely exit the hood and return to the room. The hood enclosure or cabinet must include an adequate air discharge path, such as vent openings or an open discharge area, to prevent airflow from becoming trapped within the enclosure. Do not vent recirculated air into a sealed cabinet cavity, wall cavity, ceiling space, attic, or other enclosed area.

Charcoal Filter Requirements
Ensure compatible charcoal filters are available before beginning a recirculating installation. Recirculating operation requires charcoal filters in addition to the stainless steel baffle filters. The charcoal filters help reduce cooking odors before air is recirculated back into the kitchen. Charcoal filters are installed within the hood and are accessed by removing the stainless steel baffle filters. Charcoal filters are not washable and must be replaced periodically. Under normal cooking conditions, replace the charcoal filters approximately every 3–6 months, or more frequently for heavy cooking. Replace the filters whenever odor removal or airflow noticeably decreases.

Performance Expectations
Recirculating installations may provide reduced smoke, heat, and odor removal compared to exterior vented installations, particularly during heavy cooking. For best performance, operate the hood during all cooking activities and allow the blower to continue running for several minutes after cooking is complete.

Filter Maintenance
The stainless steel baffle filters must still be cleaned regularly during normal operation to help maintain airflow and performance. Refer to the Maintenance and Cleaning section of this manual for filter cleaning guidance.

Charcoal Filter Installation

• Remove the stainless steel baffle filters to access the blower motor.
• Each blower uses two charcoal filters. Align the charcoal
• filter mounting tabs with the receiver slots on the blower motor intake.
• Insert the tabs into the receiver slots, then twist the charcoal filter clockwise until it locks into place.
• Repeat for the second charcoal filter on the opposite side of the blower.
• Reinstall the stainless steel baffle filters after both charcoal filters are installed.

Filter Removal
Before you can install the blower pack, the filters must be removed to access the hood cavity. Refer to the correct section for your model: Hurricane models – proceed to page 8, Hood Installation (blower pack is pre-installed). UMOD, Classic, and INS models – before starting blower pack installation, go to page 10, Filter Installation for instructions on removing the filters.

Position the Blower

• Place the blower pack inside the hood cavity, plate first, so it sits flush against the back panel.
• Align the mounting holes on the blower with the pre-drilled holes in the hood.
• For single blower installs, the unit is lightweight but may require a second person to help hold it steady while securing.
• For dual blower installs, use two people to lift and align the heavier unit.

Secure the Blower

NOTE: Single blower installs with 6″ ducting do not require a transition. Dual blower installs with 8 ducting will require the transition piece provided.

• Use the six provided screws to attach the blower plate to the hood. Tighten evenly, but do not overtighten—this can cause the plate to flex.
• nn Dual blower installations include a transition piece. Align it over the rear outlet and secure it with the four provided screws.

Wiring and Testing

• Connect the blower wiring harness to the matching connectors inside the hood.
• For single blower installs, connect one harness; tuck the unused connector aside.
• For dual blower installs, connect both harnesses.
• After connections are secure, test the lights and blower using the control panel. Confirm all speeds and lights function correctly before reinstalling the filters.

Final Step

• Reinstall the baffle filters into the hood cavity. The hood is now ready for normal operation.

Installation

Step 1: Plan Your Installation
Your installation sequence depends on your cabinet or enclosure design. Cabinet type determines when ductwork is connected — either before or after the hood is mounted: Fully Enclosed Cabinets (No Top Access)

• Connect ductwork to the hood before lifting it into place, since access will be limited once mounted.
• Seal all connections with aluminum HVAC tape.

Open-Frame or Partial Cabinets (Top Access Available)

• Lift the hood into place first.
• Once mounted, connect and seal ductwork from above. nn Consult a professional if you’re unsure which method applies to your project.

Step 2: Securing the Hood
The method of attachment varies by model: INS, UMOD, and CL Inserts

• Secure the hood from inside the hood cavity.
• Drive screws horizontally through the provided mounting holes into the sides of the cabinet.
  Note: Additional blocking may be required to provide proper support in these areas. Consult a professional installer if needed.

INS Models (Optional L-Bracket Installation)

• These hoods may include L-brackets as optional hardware. nn Attach the brackets to the housing of the hood as shown in the diagram.
• Fasten screws vertically through the brackets into the underside of the cabinet base.

Hurricane Inserts

• Secure the hood by fastening through the front panel flange.
• Drive screws vertically through the flange into the underside of the cabinet.
  Confirm your cabinet construction is compatible with this method before installation

Step 3: Ductwork Connection
(For cabinets where ductwork was not connected in Step 1)

• Attach ductwork to the hood outlet or transition piece. nn Secure with screws as needed.
• Seal with aluminum HVAC tape for an airtight connection.

Grease Tray Installation

NOTE: Grease trays are only included with the PLJL. INS model.Install the grease tray into the rear channel inside the hood (if applicable).

• Slide the tray into the back tunnel channel until fully seated.
• Make sure it’s level and secure — it will hold the baffle filters during final assembly.

Baffle Filter Installation

WARNING: Baffle filter edges and channels may be sharp. Handle with care during installation or removal. Do not disassemble filters.
NOTE: The type of filter included with your hood depends on the model you purchased. Only install the filters provided with your hood.

Baffle Filters with Handles (PLJL.INS model)

These models include a grease tray. Refer to the Grease Tray Installation section before installing your filters. Attach the included stainless steel handles to each filter using the provided screws. To install, (1) tilt the filter so the rear edge enters inside the hood cavity, (2) lift the front into the front channel, (3) lower the back of the filter onto the grease tray.

Filter Installation (Knob-Handled Hurricane & Latched Models – UMOD & Classic)

These models use a spring-loaded system to hold the filters in place. Depending on your hood, the spring action may be internal (latch) or external (knobs). To Install: Insert the back of the filter into the rear channel, pressing it firmly against the spring mechanism.
Raise the front of the filter into position:

• For knob-handled filters: the spring will push the filter forward until it locks securely.
• For latched filters: push upward until you hear a click, or lift and release the latch to lock it in place.

Final Steps

Make a few final checks to ensure your installation is solid

• Confirm that the hood is level and properly aligned within the cabinet.
• Tighten any mounting screws as needed.
• For added support, you may install additional grabber or self-tapping screws through the hood’s mounting flanges.

Maintenance
Your hood is equipped with stainless steel filters that are dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. To remove the filters, reverse the installation process:

HANDLE WITH CARE: Filters and trays may have sharp edges. Avoid bending or forcing them during removal or cleaning.

Baffle Filters with Handles

• Lift the back edge of the filter off the grease tray.
• Lower the front edge out of the channel, then tilt the filter down and out.

Knob-Handled Filters

• Push the filter slightly toward the rear channel to release the spring mechanism.
• Lower the front edge and pull the filter out.

Latched Filters

• Release the latch or press the filter upward to disengage the lock.
• Lower the front edge and remove the filter from the hood.

Troubleshooting

• If the hood is not working properly (outside warranty): Call Proline at (801) 973-3959 for help resolving the issue at a reasonable price.
• If components aren’t operating during installation/testing: After connecting the blower wiring harness(es), test the lights and blower using the control panel before reinstalling filters. Confirm all speeds and lights function correctly.
• Electrical troubleshooting/part replacement: When troubleshooting or replacing the touch panel, circuit board, or other electrical components, turn power to the range hood off.
• Filter/odor/airflow concerns for recirculating mode: Charcoal filters must be replaced periodically (not washable). Replace when odor removal or airflow noticeably decreases; under normal cooking conditions, the manual states approximately every 36 months or more frequently for heavy cooking.
• Performance and safety with ducting: If airflow seems reduced, verify ducting best practices from the manual (e.g., straight duct run lengths, elbow limits, rigid metal ducting, and correct duct size rules).
