Installation and Setup with UPS

Unpacking and Inspection
Remove the battery bank from the packaging carefully by following appropriate manual handling procedures due to its weight.

Selecting Installation Location
The unit can be rack mounted or placed vertically with the provided feet. Follow the instructions for both rack and tower installations.

Connecting with UPS and Other Battery Box
Use battery connection cables to connect the UPS to the battery bank. Do not connect the RJ11 detection cable to the SNMP card to prevent damage. Adjust the Ah battery menu settings as instructed in the user manual.

Battery Replacement
Refer to the user manual for suitable battery cartridge replacements for each model of the Battery Bank.

Storage and Maintenance
Prior to storage, charge the Battery Bank for 6 hours. Store it covered and upright in a cool, dry location. Follow the recharge frequency guidelines provided in the user manual.

Connecting with UPS and Other Battery Box
Use Battery connection cables to connect UPS to 1st battery bank and daisy chain subsequent battery banks with additional cables.

  • Please DO NOT connect RJ11 detection cable to SNMP card as this will cause damage to the UPS and network card.
  • Please refer to the UPS User manual to ensure the run time has been updated to be displayed correctly.
  • From the front panel display navigate to the Ah battery menu and change from default setting of 9Ah and increase by 18Ah per battery bank connected.

STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE

Storage
Before storing, charge the Battery Bank for 6 hours. Store the bank covered and upright in a cool, dry location. During storage, recharge the battery in accordance with the following table

  • SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS—This manual contains important instructions that should be followed during installation and maintenance of the batteries.
  • WARNING: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by PowerShield will void the manufactures warranty.
  • This product has no user replaceable components. All work must be undertaken by a competent person.
  • This Battery Bank utilizes voltages that may be hazardous. Do not attempt to open the Battery Bank.
  • Only factory trained service personnel may perform repairs. If the unit is opened by a non factory trained person, or not under the instruction of PowerShield, the warranty may be voided.
  • The Battery Bank is designed to be installed and operated without the need for specialised training.
  • Connection to any other type of UPS system not scheduled in this document may cause damage to the UPS and or battery bank.
  • This unit is intended for installation in a controlled environment (temperature controlled, indoor area free of conductive contaminants).
  • (0-40°C and 0-90% RH – non-condensing )
  • Avoid installing the UPS in locations where there is standing or running water, or excessive humidity.
  • Do not allow any liquids or any foreign object to enter the UPS.
  • A battery can present a risk of electrical shock and high short circuit current.

The following precautions should be observed when working on batteries

  1. Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects from hands.
  2. Use tools with insulated handles.
  3. Wear rubber gloves and boots.
  4. Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries.
  5. Do not place battery close to fire or heat, as the battery may explode.
  6. Confirm UPS is not operating on batteries, then disconnect Battery Bank from UPS before any work is undertaken on the Battery Bank.
  7. When changing batteries, install the same PowerShield approved battery pack.
  8. Do not open or mutilate the battery or batteries.
  9. Dispose of batteries in accordance with local requirements.
