What is it?
The PastFx Elastic Mattress is our original spin on the famed “V2” version of the Electric Mistress (EM) pedal made by Electro-Harmonix in the mid to late 1970s and famously used in live and studio recordings of David Gilmour as both a solo artist and with Pink Floyd. We have created a pedal that captures the unmistakable lush yet articulate base and swooshing glitz that characterizes the original Mistress, but without any of the limitations of the original… and with a lot more control on tap. Indeed, there’s quite a lot in common, sonically, with the aural qualities associated with the V2 Electric capable of more subtle chorus flanging, with slightly less saturation and better overall note definition than later EM models. Our Elastic Mattress, true to its name, bends into one’s playing with pillowy grace. In doing so, it retains the unmistakable core tone, vibe, and texture that Mistress lovers and seekers desire. And let’s not forget that our Elastic Mattress can get downright funky, trippy, and wild if subtlety isn’t the player’s forte. More modern EM tones are in there with some tweaking, but the pedal excels with its generous range of usable chorus and flanging depth. We believe that this is an extremely versatile EM-style flanger that requires limited pedalboard real estate! Players will find the familiar external rate, range, and color knobs, but we’ve also added a blend knob for controlling the t/dry ratio. In addition to the standard EM Matrix feature, which can be accessed by switching its toggle right (towards the corresponding blue LED), we have added a bright control that allows players to choose between our stock setting or reduce the amount of high-end filtering, allowing players the ability to dial brightness to taste. There is now also an external volume control that can allow bypass signal unity gain or even boost your signal when engaged. Also new in our latest version we have included an internal Bass Cut trim pot, for those wishing to shelve off some low-end frequencies. Altogether, our Elastic Mattress flanger offers all the expected pleasures and sounds of the original EM, but with lots of ability to shape and control the effect in unprecedented ways, in a highly intuitive, compact box. We invite all-comers to lay down a groove on the Elastic Mattress!

BASS CUT CONTROL
Please Do Not Use Cheap Switch-Mode Power Supplies
- This pedal draws approximately 25
- It requires an 18VDC 2.1mm jack negative tip supply. Regulated, Isolated Linear / Transformer based.
- High Quality Audio Switch-mode supplies like Cioks DC7 are excellent and recommended, however please avoid using PSU’s that look similar to the picture below in yellow!
- Up until the mid-2000 most pedal power supplies available were Linear / transformer-based. However, most manufacturers have taken the lower-cost path in manufacturing switchmode supplies. These are generally lighter in weight, and more economically appealing. An Apple/Samsung wall charger for example uses switchmode technology. Unfortunately from the frequent switching from fully to fully off the repeated switching can introduce noise into effect pedals. Modulation and high gain effects can be more prone to noise issues with cheap switch mode supplies. Please Note: When using pedals that have Surge Pump / Voltage Doubler ICs in their circuit, noise may be present pending pedal placement. One of the side effects of Voltage Doubler ICs is that their switching noise can make its way into the Audio range under certain situations. Examples include Klons, some Fuzz and Boost pedals, and any pedal that can internally boost or change the voltages provided It is acknowledged that many high-ended switchmode power supplies have improved immensely over the last few years and may work fine in your pedal. However PastFx still only recommends Linear power supplies wexceptPro Audio switch-mode supplies.
We recommend but not limited to:
- Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ® 2 Plus** etc.
- Cioks DC7/4/8 Expander/10/SOL
- Walrus Audio Phoenix.
- T-Rex® Chameleon Fuel Tank
- Truetone 1 Spot PRO CS7/12 only
- Gigrig Generator
- Eventide PowerMax / Mini
- Strymon Zuma/Zuma R300/Ojai R30
- Donner® DP-4 ISO 8 PLUS
- Fender Engine Room LVL8 / LVL12
- Mosky®C8 Power Station
- When using their voltage doubler cables
PLEASE NOTE: * Dunlop ECB004 18VDC is an economical switchmode power supply that may work however, in a complex pedal board setup switchmode supply noise may occur. It is recommended to use a high quality power supply (see above) to avoid such issues.
Please do not use cheap Aliexpress / ebay power bricks. EG Donner DP-1 etc. They are powered by cheap 18v itchmode supplies and do not work. (They are designed to appear like a quality Brick but are not!)
