XT-2000, XT-4000, XT-6000 Operating Instructions
The XT series of ozone generators feature a patented method of creating ozone by corona discharge.
These units are meant for giving high ozone “shock treatments” to areas contaminated by odors and/or mold. These machines are NOT recommended for occupied spaces.
Only run these machines in unoccupied rooms.
Controls
The POWER button turns the unit ON/OFF.
To select the OZONE LEVEL, turn the unit on and then turn the knob to one of the 1 through 5 positions. Each position will determine how much ozone is being created and how many seconds per minute the machine will run. Level 1 will set the machine to run for 10 seconds per minute. Level 2 sets the machine to run for 20 seconds per minute. Level 3 sets the machine to run for 30 seconds. Level 4 sets the machine to run for 45 seconds and level 5 sets the machine to run 60 seconds per minute or continuous.
‘We recommend starting on level 1 and working your way up incrementally.
A small LED on the power switch will blink once per second in between the burst time selected. For example, if you selected Level 2, the machine will burst ozone for 20 seconds – no ozone will be produced for 40 seconds (that’s when the machine will blink once per second – the machine will burst again for 20 seconds – this process will continue for as long as you set the machine to run. See the Countdown Timer instructions that follow.
IMPORTANT: THE UNIT MUST BE RUNNING FOR THE OZONE LEVEL BURST TIMER TO WORK.
The elements must be glowing and the fan must be running to change the output level.
If the unit is not on when you attempt to change a setting, the machine will only operate on the last programmed settings.
If the timer seems to be malfunctioning unplug the unit for 10 minutes and start over.
Timer Control
Countdown Timer: The timer inside the unit can countdown a total of 150 minutes (2 %2 hours).
Push the timer select button to set the ozone generator operating time for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 minutes, etc. (up to 150 minutes) or continuous. The amount of time programmed will be illuminated by the lights on top of the unit. To set the TIMER press the Timer button until the corresponding light illuminates. When the “10” light is lit the unit will operate for 10 minutes and then shut off. If “20” is selected the unit will operate for 20 minutes and shut off, etc.
After the time period selected the unit will permanently shut off. The power light will blink once every 2 seconds once the unit has turned off.
Continuing to press the timer button will light more than one LED such as the “40” and “50” minute lights. When these two lights are lit the unit will run for 90 minutes and then turn off.
When all the LED’s are on, the unit will run for 150 minutes and then permanently shut off.
If no LED’s are lit the unit is running in the continuous mode.
The unit has a “smart chip” in it and will remember the last settings when turned off.
Location of Unit
The ozone generator should be placed where the best possible ozone distribution can be obtained. A fan can greatly aid in the distribution of ozone. Keep the unit away from dusty, dirty areas.
NEVER EVER put the unit on the floor where dust can get to it.
Please note that ozone is heavier than air, so placing the unit as high as possible is advised.
Ozone Levels
Adjust the ozone level according to the level of odor contamination in the room or vehicle.
Overuse of ozone is not recommended. If too much ozone is present in the room the ozone smell can embed itself into the room or vehicle. This should be avoided.
To ozone a vehicle to remove odors it is recommended that the unit only be run from 30- 60 minutes and the Timer MUST be used! See “Removing Odors from Vehicles” below.
High Ozone Shock Treatments
The best feature of a high-powered ozone generator is the ability to do High Ozone Shock Treatments. To kill mold or remove strong odors such as smoke, or animal urine the ozone level should be set to its highest level. This is called a high ozone shock treatment.
The room MUST be vacant of all persons, animals, or plants.
This is an ABSOLUTE MUST!
The timer MUST be used.
Turn on the unit with its ozone level set at the highest possible position (level 5).
Continue this treatment from one to a few hours. After the timer has shut the unit off, wait at least half the time of the ozone shock treatment to re-enter the area.
Upon re-entering the room, air the room out by opening windows.
The room may have an obnoxious “bleach-like” odor at first, but after airing the room out it will smell much fresher than before the treatment. Over time the bleach smell will disappear.
Mold and stubborn odors may require treatments to be repeated as needed on a periodic or maintenance basis.
The most effective use of ozone is by using it on a room-by-room basis. Attempting to ozonate a whole house at once is not recommended.
Ozone has a very short half-life and it reverts back to oxygen in a short period of time.
The most important thing to remember is to get as high an ozone concentration in a room as possible to kill mold. and to remove serious odors.
It is better to run the unit for 2 hours per room than to run the generator for 24 hours in a whole house. Even if the unit was run for 24 hours in a whole house the level of ozone concentration will never get as high as when the machine is used to treat each room
individually. Any odor or mold problem may never be eliminated if the ozone concentration is not high enough.
It is best to start with shorter shock treatments to get a feel for the machine and what it can accomplish.
Overuse of ozone is never recommended. Too much ozone can eventually harden rubber and make it brittle. Always use as little ozone as possible required to do the job.
Removing Odors From Vehicles
The XT-6000 and XT-6000S are recommended for all vehicle applications.
Ozone can very effectively remove odors from vehicles.
The best method is clean (vacuum and shampoo) the vehicle prior to the ozone treatment.
Then place the ozone generator on top of the vehicle with a towel underneath it to protect the vehicle’s finish. Attach a standard 4-inch dryer vent hose to the generator and place the output end through a window in the vehicle. A template of cardboard, or plastic, and tape may be used to fit the hose into the vehicle for a snug fit. This is the recommended way to ozone a vehicle.
Alternately the ozone generator may be placed inside the vehicle to ozone the vehicle but it is best to use the dryer vent hose method as it presents a “clean air draw” to the ozone generator and it does not ozone the generator itself.
Do not put the ozone generator on the ground. This will only cause the ozone generator to get dirty and the ozone can back up into the machine itself.
You MUST use the countdown timer when using this machine.
For vehicles it is best to start with the lowest ozone setting (level 1) and let the machine run for 30 minutes.
Turn the ozone knob all the way to the 1st position.
To set the countdown timer press the green button until just the red “30” light is lit.
This will run the unit for 30 minutes and then shut it off automatically. Let the ozone dissipate on it’s own in the car for another 30 minutes. Open the car windows and let fresh air into the car for another 30 minutes. Now check the vehicle to determine if the
odor is gone or if you need to repeat the treatment.
You may also try increasing your ozone setting to level 5 and extending your timer up to 60-90 minutes.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER WHEN OZONING VEHICLES IS NOT TO OVERDO IT!
The XT-6000 and XT-6000S are VERY powerful ozone generators so care MUST be used.
If the vehicle is over-ozoned it will retain a strong bleach-like odor for a long period of time.
Most vehicles can be freshened up within 30 minutes to one hour.
The removal of odors inside a vehicle is entirely dependant upon the level of contamination, or odor within the vehicle. Stronger odors may take longer to remove.
Treatments can always be repeated.
To remove odors trapped in the AC/Heat vents, simply put the fan on in the vehicle at room temperature or warmer. Do NOT run the air conditioning as the colder it is the harder it is for the ozone to work.
Do not operate the ozone generator outside in the hot sun. Doing so may cause overheating.
It is best to ozonate vehicles in an open door, vented garage.
Maintenance
Unplug the unit before cleaning. The outside of the unit can be cleaned with a moist paper towel. A small vacuum attachment can be used to gently vacuum the dust that accumulates in the holes of the unit. An air pressure hose can blow dust out of the ozone elements also.
The model XT line of ozone generators incorporates a patented method of corona discharge ozone generation that requires almost no maintenance.
There is an electrostatic patented 3M air filter on the backside of the generator to keep dust from entering the unit. A vacuum hose attachment can be used to suck the surface dirt off the filter. When the filter becomes a dark gray color, usually between two and three months, please replace it with one of the included replacement filters. Do not reuse the old filters. The filter life is completely dependent upon how often the generator is being used and how well it is being maintained.
In a smoke environment the filters may need to be changed more often.
The unit comes with a supply of 4 filters. After that the user may purchase additional replacement filters from Air-Zone, Inc.
If the filter becomes too dirty, it will restrict airflow, and the unit can overheat.
If the operating environment is excessively smoky or dirty, the inside of the generator can become coated with dirt. Cigarette smoke can coat the ozone elements in as little as a month and reduce their output significantly. This could lead to a more detailed cleaning and cleaning more frequently. To prevent these problems always try to draw clean air into the unit. This can be accomplished by routing a 4-inch dryer hose to the rear intake from a clean air source.
Cleaning the Ozone Elements
If the ozone elements become dirty, and ozone output is reduced try cleaning them.
The easiest way to clean the ozone elements is to run the generator on full power for an hour.
This will help burn off accumulated dirt on the elements. The included “element cleaner” can also be used to push dirt from the elements. Make sure the unit is unplugged when using the element cleaner.
If the elements still seem dirty they can be washed.
MAKE SURE THE UNIT IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE SERVICING!!!
THE HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS OPERATE AT 5000 VOLTS!!!
Unscrew the front-end cap and carefully slide it off. Gently pull on one of the ozone elements and remove the clips off of the tabs on the side of the elements with a pair of needle nose pliers. Please do this gently as the pins can be broken if too much pressure is
applied. If you are unable to pull the elements out of the front of the unit, the rear screws of the unit may be loosened also. Pull the rear end cap off and slide the generator chassis no more than 3 inches. This will allow the elements to be exposed at the front of the unit for easy removal.
Place the ozone elements in a bowl of hot water with dishwashing soap and let them soak for a few hours.
After the soaking rinse the elements thoroughly under the water tap.
Shake the excess water out of the elements and dry them with a paper towel.
A hair dryer can also be used to dry the elements.
It is recommended they be allowed to sit overnight and dry.
It is very important to make sure that the elements have dried completely before installing them back into the unit.
Once dry the elements can be reassembled into the generator the same manner in which they were removed. Be very careful when putting the clips onto the element tabs as not to break them. Note that the tabs have a high and low side when turned over and that the elements fit back into the slots when the tabs are more towards the bottom of each element.
