BLK1 BTX
Note: These instructions are for the explosion proof convection heaters with the small electrical enclosure.
Warning: Disconnect heater from power supply or fuse box before proceeding. Work should only be performed by a qualified electrician experienced with hazardous location equipment and to requirements of local electrical codes.
A) For a BTX Bimetal Thermostat Conversion
Option 1: Converting a Built-in BTX to a Wall Mount BTX
If you have a convection heater with a built-in BTX thermostat and want to convert it to a wall mount version, then please follow the below process:
a) Order a BLK1 Junction Box (Heater thermostat field conversion kit).
b) Remove the four M8 bolts from BLK1 enclosure lid and mount the BLK1 enclosure housing to the wall using the mounting kit supplied. Pull the necessary thermostat electrical wiring into this enclosure.
c) Remove the four M8 bolts from built-in BTX thermostat. Disconnect the wires from the micro switch terminals. Connect the heater element wires to the wires leading to the wall mount thermostat. Cap off any unused wires.
d) Take the BLK1 enclosure lid and install it onto the heater using the four M8 bolts. Torque the bolts to 150 in-lbs (17 Nm).
e) Take the BTX thermostat and connect the thermostat wires, running from the Heater to the BLK1 enclosure housing, to the BTX thermostat micro switch screw terminals labelled “Common” and “Heat”. Ring terminals are recommended for the connection.
f) Install BTX thermostat onto the BLK1 wall mount using the four M8 bolts. Torque the bolts to 150 in-lbs (17 Nm).
Option 2: Converting a Pre-installed Wall Mount BTX to a Built-in BTX
Warning: The BTX thermostat is rated for single phase heaters only. The maximum rated voltage / current for the BTX thermostat is 480V / 22Amps. Ensure that the heater the thermostat is to be installed on does not exceed these values.
If you have a convection heater that already has a wall mount BTX thermostat connected to it and you want to convert it to a built-in version, then please follow the below process:
a) Remove the four M8 bolts from the BTX wall mount thermostat. Disconnect the two wires from the micro switch terminals labelled “Common” and “Heat”. Reroute wires so that line power is supplied to the heater.
b) Remove the four M8 bolts from the BLK1 lid on the heater.
c) Install BLK1 lid onto the wall mount housing using the four M8 bolts. Torque the bolts to 150 in-lbs (17 Nm).
d) Disconnect one of the heater element wires from the line power wire. Install ring terminals on the heater element wire and the line power wire’ then connect them to the thermostat micro switch screw terminals labelled “Common” and “Heat” located on the BTX thermostat that you removed from the wall.
e) Attach the BTX thermostat to the heater using the four M8 bolts. Torque the bolts to 150 in-lbs (17 Nm).
