Introduction

NUX MG-400 is an affordable modeler inherited his little brother MG-300. MG-400 equips with 2 powerful DSPs for high-definition White-Box Amp Modeling algorithm (TSAC-HD) and Core-Image post-effects. Since we announced the best budget compact modeler MG-300, people were blown away by the sound and playability. Especially the easy tone tweaking and the intuitive interface. Based on MG-300’s moveable signal blocks, 12 IR COLLECTION slots, flexible P.L block with MIN & MAX parameter setup, abundant SYSTEM MENU, and physical MASTER volume knob, MG-400 is now the best value modeler for the money.

Connect the included adaptor (ACD-006A) to the jack.

Turn ON I OFF MG-400 through the switch.

Connect the USB cable to computer for firmware update, USB recording, or Quick Tone™ edit software editing.
Note: Connect USB cable to computer, and hold DOWN & CTRL 1 footswitches to turn on MG-400, then you can enter to DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode to do firmware update. For more details, please visit product page to check the firmware update guide and download the newest firmware & Quick Tone™ edit software.
*For WIN, you can download the related ASIO driver from the product page. To avoid Quick Tone™ and USB audio stream connection issues, please unplug any other unnecessary USB MIDI devices or HUBs, and connect MG-400 directly to a USB port. If your laptop experiences connection issues, please try to update and reinstall the laptop’s USB port driver or Windows Service Pack. MG-400 uses standard USB communication, there may be some interferences related to USB hardware and/ or HUBs, especially USB MIDI devices.

Operation

Control overall master volume of MG-400.NUX MG-400 Guitar Modelling Processor - Fig 11Under PRESET mode, press EDIT/EXIT to enter to AMP editing, in the meantime, you can tweak parameters. Rotate SELECT knob to choose, short press SELECT can recall the global EQ default parameter. *You can choose STEREO / MONO loop. (Stereo is 30 seconds, mono is 60 seconds.)
*NR = Normal Recording, AR Auto Recording. NR works as regular loop function, while you press CTRL1 (LOOP) footswitch, it starts to record the phrase loop. AR will stand by while you press CTRL1(LOOP) footswitch, once you hit the strings, it will start to record your phrase loop.

Tap the TAP button under PRESET mode can assign current BPM for DLY SUB D. reference. Under edit mode, press CTRL PAGE button to go to the next/previous page.

Under PRESET mode, press LEFT or RIGHT can go to 1~16 patch group quickly. For example, if you located in 1A currently, press RIGHT, then the digit flashes 2, press RIGHT again, it flashes 3. Once you press UP or DOWN footswitch, it will go to 3A immediately.

If you short press SELECT to engage/disengage the current block. Long press SELECT, the target becomes RED, then you can press LEFT or RIGHT to move the block order.

Short press SELECT again, and the target goes back to GREEN.

While you enter to edit mode (press EDIT/EXIT button), you can rotate the SELECT knob to choose the model under current block, and short press SELECT knob to engage/disengage the current block. In the meantime, you can tweak KNOB 1/2/3 to adjust the related parameters. Press CTRL/PAGE button to go to different page.

Under edit mode, long press SELECT knob can change the target color. While it’s in RED, you can press LEFT or RIGHT button to change the block order. Short press again, the target will go back to GREEN, in the meantime you can press LEFT or RIGHT button to choose different block for tone tweaking.

DOWN FOOT SWITCH: During preset display, press once can go 1 patch down.
UP FOOT SWITCH: During preset display, press once can go 1 patch up.

You can assign CTRL footswitch as TAP / CMP/NG/EFX/EQ/MOD/DLY/RVB / SCN. (Press CTRL/PAGE button to enter CTRL SETTING.) TAP means tap tempo. For other signal blocks, it means you can engage/disengage by CTRL footswitch. SCN: Assigns CTRL as SCENE footswitch to switch S1/S2/S3 sequentially. (You can choose SCN3: OFF to avoid S3 and only toggle S1/S2.) For SCENE, you can engage/disengage signal blocks freely, and it keeps DELAY / REVERB trails when you disengage them with SCN CTRL.

Press CTRL1 & CTRL2 footswitches simultaneously, then you can enter to TUNER. In the meantime, short press SELECT to switch “Chromatic / Cmp G” tuning, rotate SELECT to switch “mute / monitoring”, rotate KNOB2 to adjust A4: 430~450 Hz.

Note: Camp G is guitar compensation tuning algorithm.
Press CTRL1 & CTRL2 footswitches again to exit TUNER. (Pressing EDIT/EXIT button also allows you to exit TUNER.)

System Menu

Here we will explain more details about SYSTEM MENU, actually it’s very intuitive, you can follow the Ul to operate it easily.
Press EDIT/EXIT & SAVE buttons to enter to SYSTEM MENU.

Rotate SELECT or press LEFT & RIGHT button to select target function. Press EDIT/EXIT to quit. Short press SELECT to enter the target function.
FACTORY
FACTORY RESET, GHOST BACKUP, GHOST RESTORE, SYSTEM INSPECTION.

After firmware update, remember to do FACTORY RESET to rearrange system data.
GHOST BACKUP backs up all the system data into the device. If you experience any data errors or accidentally change/delete your data, you can do a GHOST RESTORE to restore all the presets you stored into GHOST BACKUP,
EXP
EXP Independent with patch means it’s like a physical EXP pedal, while you engage it, it’s always on even you go to another patch.

EXP CALIBRATION, just follow the instruction, you can do it easily.
“Remember to do EXP CALIBRATION after you do FIRMWARE UPDATE.
Short press EDIT/EXIT to quit SYSTEM MENU.

USB SETTINGS
Rotate SELECT to choose NORMAL/DRY OUT/REAMP, tweak KNOB1 for REC LEVEL, tweak KNOB2 for PLAY LEVEL. Short press SELECT to recall default parameter settings. Short press EDIT/EXIT to quit to SYSTEM MENU.

IN TRIM
You can tweak the input signal to adapt with stored patches.

PARA. FOLLOW
If you engage PARA. FOLLOW, while you leave the current efx model, MG-400 will remember the parameters while you choose the model again. If you turn off PARA. FOLLOW, while you choose the eFax model, it will use default parameters.
