Power supply

  • Before first use, fully charge the battery using the supplied USB cable.
  • The charging indicator light located on the battery compartment lights up in red while charging.
  • WARNING: the type-C USB port located next to the SD card slot does not support the charging function. You must use the charging port located on the battery compartment under the rubber protection tab. See diagrams.

Installing the memory card

  • Using a memory card is required to operate the camera (SD card from 4GB up to 256GB maximum – class 10 minimum).
  • You can purchase micro-SD cards with adapters at any time at www.numaxes.com. In SETUP mode, if no memory card is inserted, the LDC screen displays “No memory card”.
  • Before inserting or removing the memory card, the camera must be turned off (switch in the OFF position). Failing to do so may cause loss of or damage the files already recorded on the card.
  • Formatting the memory card in the trail camera before using it for the first time is strongly recommended, especially when the card has been used in other devices. A memory card formatted in another device may not be compatible.
  • When the memory card is full, the LCD screen indicates “Memory full”.

Operation

Turn ON the camera

  • Put the switch in the ON position to turn on the camera.
  • The red start-up indicator light located on the front cover will blink and the LCD display will count down 5 seconds. This interval allows you time to close the camera front cover and leave the monitored area.
  • Once in the ON mode, the camera will take photos and/or videos according to its current parameter settings.
  • NOTE: the camera comes pre-programmed with factory default settings. So, for test purpose, you only need to charge the battery and insert the memory card then power on the camera (switch in the ON position).

Turn OFF the camera

  • Slide the switch to the OFF position to turn off the camera.
  • The OFF mode is the “safe mode” for actions such as replacing the memory card or transporting the camera.

GENERAL SETTINGS MENU (displayed by default)

NUMAXES-\-Trail-Camera-with Double-Image-Sensor- (8)

Mode Photo IR LED brightness Auto
PIR interval 00:30 Low power night capture No capture
PIR sensors sensitivity High Operating periods OFF
Time Lapse OFF Side PIR setup ON
Cycle recording ON Frequency 50 Hz
Night shoot mode Auto
Settings Programmable options

(default settings in bold characters)

Mode Photo | Video | Photo + Video
  • Photo: the camera will only shoot photos.
  • Video: the camera will only shoot videos.
  • Photo + Video: upon the same trigger event, the camera will shoot photo(s) first then a video.
PIR interval Default PIR interval: 30 seconds
  • Programmable from 5 seconds (00:05) to 59 minutes 59 seconds (59:59)
  • Allows you to set the desired time interval between photos/videos upon motion detection by the PIR sensor. Example: if the PIR interval is set to “01:00”, the camera will wait 1 minute between photo/video recordings with motion.
  • Short PIR interval = high shooting frequency = high battery consumption
  • Long PIR interval = lower shooting frequency = lower
  • battery consumption
PIR sensors sensitivity High | Medium | Low
  • With the PIR sensitivity set to High, the PIR sensors:
  • are more sensitive to movements by smaller subjects;
  • offer longer detection distance;
  • can more easily detect a difference between body heat and outdoor temperature;
  • can more easily trigger the camera.
In high temperature environment, subjects body heat and environment temperature are hard to tell by the camera, the suggested setting is high.
However, it is recommended to use low PIR sensitivity in environments with lots of interference like hot wind, smoke, near window, etc. This will prevent untimely triggering
Time Lapse
  • OFF | ON With “Time Lapse” ON, the camera will capture photos or videos automatically at a pre-set time interval. WARNING: when the Time Lapse parameter is set to ON, the PIR sensor is deactivated (there is no motion detection).
  • Select “ON” then press OK to set the interval; the camera will shoot photos or video clips automatically upon the user set interval.
  • Time Lapse programmable from 00:00:05 up to 23:59:59. Example: if Time Lapse is set to 00:30:00, the camera will automatically capture photos/videos every 30 minutes. The “Time Lapse” feature can work together with the “Operating periods” feature.
Cycle recording on memory card OFF | ON
When the memory card will be full, the camera will continue to record photos/videos by deleting the oldest photos/videos.
Select OFF to deactivate the cycle recording function.
Night shoot mode Auto | More colour
  • Automatic: in “Automatic” setting, the camera will select the image sensor (day or night) according to the real brightness conditions. In full light conditions, it will choose the 13 MP day image sensor and in low light conditions, it will change to the 2 MP night image sensor. At nighttime, it will always take black and white photos with the 2 MP sensor lens.
  • More colour: in “More colour” setting, the only difference with the automatic setting is the fact that the camera will always take color photos even in low light or nighttime conditions. But in nighttime conditions, the photos will have many “noises”. It is  better to use this setting only in full light conditions.

IR LED brightness Auto | Medium | Low | OFF
This parameter allows you to adjust the brightness of the infrared flash
Low power night capture No IR flash | No capture
  • No IR flash: at night, if the battery level is too low, the device will take photos/videos without triggering the infrared flash.
  • No capture: at night, if the battery level is too low, the device will no longer take photos/videos.
Operating periods OFF | ON
  • Each day, the device can operate 24 hours a day (parameter set to OFF) or only during the time slot(s) defined by the user. Two different periods can be programmed.
  • Select “ON” then press OK to set the start time (Hr:Min) and end time (Hr:Min) of the desired working period(s). Example: If “Period 1 – Start” is 15:00 and “Period 1 – End” is 18:00; each day, the camera will work only between 15h00 (03:00 PM) and 18h00 (06:00 PM).
  • The “Operating periods” feature can work together with the “Time Lapse” feature.
Side PIR sensors setup OFF | ON
  • The two side PIR sensors provide a wide detection angle and detect more potential triggers.
  • However, in the following situations, it is preferable to switch off the side sensors:
  • You only wish to observe a certain point and too many irrelevant triggers from the side sensors continuously switch the camera on and off, considerably affecting battery life.
  • It is difficult to remove obstructing branches and leaves in front of the camera or avoid sunlight.

Troubleshooting

The photos do not capture subject of interest

  • Check the PIR sensitivity parameter setting. In warm environmental conditions, set the sensor sensitivity to “High” and in cold weather use, set the sensor sensitivity to “Low”.
  • Try to set your camera up in an area where no heat sources are in the camera’s field of view.
  • In some cases, setting the camera near water will make it take images with no subject in them. Try aiming the camera over ground.
  • Avoid setting the camera up on small trees that are prone to being moved by strong winds. Try to set the camera on stable and immovable objects, i.e., large trees.
  • Remove any limbs which are right in front of the camera lens.
  • At night, the PIR sensor may detect beyond the range of the infrared flash. Reduce the detection distance by adjusting the PIR sensor sensitivity.
  • Rising sun or sunset can trigger the PIR sensor. The camera must be reoriented.
  • If a subject moves quickly, it may move out of the camera’s field of view before the photo has been taken. Move the camera further back or redirect it.

The camera stops taking images/videos or won’t take images/videos

  • Please make sure that the memory card is not full. If the memory card is full, the camera will stop taking photos/videos. To avoid such problem, check that the cycle recording function in activated (ON).
  • Check the battery to make sure there is enough power left for the camera to work.
  • Make sure the camera power switch is in the ON position and not in the OFF or SETUP position.
  • Please format the memory card with the camera before using it or when the camera stops taking images/videos.

The night vision flash range doesn’t meet expectations

  • Please check to make sure the battery is fully charged or have enough power left.
  • To ensure accuracy and quality of the night time images, please mount the camera in a dark environment without any obvious light sources.
  • Certain surroundings (like trees, walls, ground, etc.) within flash range can get you better night time images. Please do not aim the camera to total open field where there is nothing within the IR flash range to reflect the flash back.
