MIDIPLUS X Pro II Portable USB MIDI Controller Keyboard
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the MIDIPLUS 2nd generation X Pro series MIDI keyboard products. This series of keyboards include the X6 Pro II and X8 Pro II, which have 61 keys and 88 keys,and all have 128 voices. The X Pro II features semi-weighted keys with velocity-sensitive, equipped with knob controllers, transport controls, touch-sensitive pitch bend and modulation controls. It has built-in smart scales including Chinese pentatonic, Japanese scales, blues scales and others, and which equipped with four velocity curves: standard, soft, heavy, and fixed. It supports Mackie Control and HUI protocols to provide an enhanced user experience.
Important Notes:
Please read the following precautions carefully before use to avoid damaging the equipment or causing personal injury. Precautions include but are not limited to the following:
- Read and understand all the illustrations.
- Always follow the instructions on the device.
- Before cleaning the device, always remove the USB cable. When cleaning, use a soft and dry cloth. Do not use gasoline, alcohol, acetone, turpentine or any other organic solutions; do not use a liquid cleaner, spray or cloth that’s too wet.
- Disconnect the USB cable if not used for extended periods.
- Do not use the device near water or moisture, such as a bathtub, sink, swimming pool or similar place.
- Do not place the device in an unstable position where it might accidentally fall over.
- Do not place heavy objects on the device.
- Do not place the device near a heat vent at any location with poor air circulation.
- Do not open or insert anything into the device that may cause a fire or electrical shock.
- Do not spill any kind of liquid onto the device.
- Do not expose the device to hot sunlight.
- Do not use the device when there is a gas leak nearby.
Overview
The Top Panel
X knob: For controlling DAW and software instrument parameters or setting the keyboard parameters.
- Transport buttons: For controlling the transport of DAW.
- Knobs: For the control of DAW and software instrument parameters.
- Buttons: Quick program change.
- Display: Provides real time feedback of control information.
- Pads: Send channel 10 instrument notes.
- Transpose button: Activate keyboards semitone control.
- Octave buttons: Activate keyboard’s octave control.
- Pitch & Modulation touch strips: For controlling the pitch bend and modulation parameters of the sound.
- Keyboard: Used to trigger note switches and can be used as a shortcut to access parameters in setup mode.
- Headphone: For access to 6.35mm headphones.
The Rear Panel
MIDI IN: Receive MIDI message from the external MIDI device.
- MIDI OUT: Sends MIDI message from X Pro II to the external MIDI device.
- USB: Connects to USB 5V power adapter or computer USB port.
- OUTPUT L/R: Connect the active speaker or power amplifier system.
- SUS: Assignable CC controller, connecting a sustain pedal.
- EXP: Assignable CC controller, connecting an expression pedal.
Guide
Ready to use
Connecting to your computer: Please use the supplied USB cable to connect the X Pro II to your computer. The X Pro II is a plug and play device in both Windows and MAC OS operating systems, and it will automatically install the required drivers without the need for additional installation steps. After launching your DAW software, please select X Pro II as the MIDI input device to get started.
Connecting audio devices: Please use the included USB cable to connect the X Pro II to a USB 5V adapter (purchased separately), and at the same time, please plug your headphones into the headphone jack of the X Pro II. Alternatively, you can connect to an active speaker through the rear OUTPUT L/R ports to start playing.
Use with external MIDI device: Use the supplied USB cable to connect the X Pro II keyboard to a USB 5V charger (sold separately) or to your computer, and then connect the X Pro II’s MIDI OUT/MIDI IN jacks to the MIDI IN jacks of an external MIDI device using a 5-pin MIDI cable.
X Knob
The X-Knob has 2 modes, the default mode is General Mode, long press about 0.5 seconds to switch to Setup Mode, which allows you to set the keyboard’s relevant parameter options, for more details please refer to 2.9 Keyboard.
Normal Mode: Turn the X knob to send Program Change.
Setting Mode: Turn the X knob to select options, press to confirm, press about 0.5 seconds to exit the setting mode.
Transpose and Octave
Pressing the buttons to shift the octave range of the keyboard, when activated, the selected octave button will light up, press
the and buttons simultaneously to quickly reset the octave shift.
Press and hold the TRANS button, then press the or button to transpose, when activated, the TRANS button will light up, at this time press the TRANS button once to turn off the shift temporarily, press the TRANS button again to restore the shift memory of the last shift, and press the TRANS button to reset the shift setting, the TRANS button light will be always on to indicate that the shift has been activated, the button light will be half on to indicate that there exists a shift memory, and the button light will be off to indicate that the shift has not been activated or that the shift is zero.
Pitch and Modulation
Two capacitive touch strips allow for real-time pitch bend and modulation control. The LED light strips will reflect the current status of each controller.
Sliding up or down on the Pitch touch strip will raise or lower the pitch of the selected tone. The range of this effect is set within the hardware or software instrument being controlled.
Sliding up on the Modulation touch strip increases the amount of modulation on the selected sound.
The light bar on the right side of the touch bar will reflect the change in the position of the touch bar. Pitch defaults to the middle position and will automatically return to the middle point when you release your hand. Mod defaults to the bottom position and will remain in the last position touched by your finger when you release your hand.
Transport Buttons
X Pro II has 6 transport buttons with three mode: MCU (default), HUI and CC mode.
In MCU and HUI modes, these buttons control the transport of DAWs. Please refer to 5. DAW Settings for detailed operation steps. You can change the mode of buttons in MIDIPLUS Control Center.

Keyboard
X Pro II provides 61 keys or 88 keys for sending note switch and velocity information in normal state. These keys also can be used as shortcuts to set controllers, MIDI channel in Setting Mode, for details, please refer to 3. Setting Mode.
When in Setting Mode, the keys with the labelled functions will be used as shortcuts to access the parameters, the labelled keys are as follow:
VEL: Setting velocity sensitive curve of the keyboard, select between Normal, Soft, Hard and Fixed. MSB: Setting the controller number for the “Most Significant Byte” (ie, MSB) of Bank Select. This message has a range from 0 to 127. The default is 0.
LSB: Setting the controller number for the “Least Significant Byte” (ie, LSB) of Bank Select. This message has a range from 0 to 127. The default is 0.
SCALE: Selecting the build-in Smart Scale, when a scale is selected, the scale notes will be mapped on the white keys, for details, please refer to7.2 Scales, the default is Off.
SELECT CH: Setting the MIDI Channel of the keyboard, the range is between 0 and 16, the default is 0.
Setting Mode
The X Pro II keyboard has an easy-to-use setup mode, in which you can make some general settings for the keyboard. Press and hold the X knob for about 0.5 seconds and the display will show ‘Edit’, which means the keyboard has entered the setup mode. General setup procedure: Press and hold the X knob to enter the setup mode >> Press the key with silkscreen to select the function >> Rotate the X knob to adjust the parameter >> Press the X knob to confirm the parameter and exit.
Changing The Keyboard Velocity Curve
- Press the key labeled “VEL.”, the screen will display the currently selected velocity curve,
- Turn the X knob to select Normal, Soft, Hard, Fix or Custom,
- Press the X knob to confirm, the screen will display you just selected velocity curve,
Changing The Bank MSB
Press and hold the X knob for 0.5 seconds, and when the display shows‘Edit’, proceed as follows:
- Press the key labeled “MSB”, the screen will display the currently value,
- Turn the X knob to set the controller number between 0 and 127,
- Press the X knob to confirm, the screen will display you just selected controller number,
Changing The Bank LSB
Press and hold the X knob for 0.5 seconds, and when the display shows‘Edit’, proceed as follows:
- Press the key labeled “LSB”, the screen will display the currently value,
- Turn the X knob to set the controller number between 0 and 127,
- Press the X knob to confirm, the screen will display you just selected controller number,
Selecting a Smart Scale
Press and hold the X knob for 0.5 seconds, and when the display shows ‘Edit’, proceed as follows:
- Press the key labeled “SCALE”, the screen will display the currently scale,
- Turn the X knob to select a scale,
- Press the X knob to confirm, the screen will display you just selected scale name.
Changing The MIDI Channel Press and hold the X knob for 0.5 seconds, and when the display shows ‘Edit’. Press one of the silk-screened keys from 1 to 16 (corresponding to channels 1 to 16) under ‘ MIDI CHANNELS ’ , then the display will show the current channel for about 1S and will automatically exit the setup mode, and the keyboard’s MIDI channel has been successfully modified.
Factory Reset
At some point you may wish to reset your device back to factory settings. To perform a factory reset on your X Pro II, please follow these steps:
- Disconnect the USB cable,
- Press and hold the “B1” and “B2” buttons,
- Plug in the USB cable,
- Release the “B1” and “B2” buttons when the screen displays “RESET”.:
Note: Performing a factory reset will clear all your changes to the keyboard. Please operates carefully.
DAW Settings
X Pro II has 6 buttons with three modes: Mackie Control (default), HUI and CC mode, they can be controls the transport of most popular DAWs. And most of DAWs can be used Mackie Control mode except Pro Tools, you need to change the buttons to HUI mode.
Steinberg Cubase/Nuendo (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Studio > Studio Setup…
- Click on the Add Device
- Select the Mackie Control from the pop-up list
- In the Mackie Control window, set the MIDI Input as MIDIIN2(X Pro II) and the MIDI Output as MIDIOUT2(X Pro II)
- Click on the MIDI Port Setup
- In the right side of the window, find the MIDIIN2(X Pro II), then deactivate the In “All MIDI”
- 7. Click on OK to finish setup
FL Studio (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Options > MIDI settings (keyboard shortcut F10)
- In the Input tab, find and Enable both X Pro II and MIDIIN2(X Pro II), set the Controller type of MIDIIN2(X Pro II) as Mackie Control Universal, Port 1
- In the Output tab, find X Pro II and MIDIIN2(X Pro II), then and Enable the Send master sync, set the Port of MIDIIN2(X Pro II) to Port 1, close the window to finish setup.
Studio One (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Studio One > Options…(keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+,)
- Select the External Devices
- Then click on Add…
- Select New Keyboard
- Set both Receive From and Send To as X Pro II
- Click on OK to finish this part
ok - Select another External Devices
- Find the Mackie folder in the list and select Control, set both Receive From and Send To as MIDIIN2(X Pro II), then click on OK to finish setup.
Pro Tools (HUI)
- Change the transport buttons in the MIDIPLUS Control Centre to HUI.
- Go to menu: Setup > Peripherals…
- In the pop-up window, click on the MIDI Controllers tab, find the #1 row, select HUI in the pop-up list of Type, select MIDIIN2(X Pro II) both in the pop-up list of the Receive From and Send To, then close the Peripherals window to finish setup.
Logic Pro X (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Control Surfaces > Setup…
- In the Control Surface Setup window, click on New, select Install from the pop-up list,
- In the Install window, select Mackie Control, then click on Add
- In the Control Surface Setup window, find the Device: Mackie Control, set the Output Port and Input Port as X Pro II port 2, close the window to finish setup.
Reaper (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Options > Preferences… (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+P)
- In the Preferences window, click on the MIDI Devices tab, find and right click on the the X Pro II fromthe Device list, select Enable input,
- In the Preferences window, click on the Control/OSC/web tab, then click on Add
- In the Control Surface Settings window, select Frontier Tranzport from the pop-up list of Control surface mode, select MIDIIN2 from the pop-up list of MIDI input, select MIDIOUT2 from the pop-up list of MIDI output.
- Click on OK to finish setup.
CakeWalk Sonar (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Edit > Preferences…
- In the Preferences window, click on Devices tab, then check the X Pro II and MIDIIN2(X Pro II) from the Friendly Name of the Inputs
- In the Preferences window, click on Control Surfaces tab, then click on the Add icon as picture below,
- In the Controller/Surface Settings window, select Mackie Control from the pop-up list of Controller/Surface, then click on the MIDI Devices… button,
- In the MIDI Devices window, check the X Pro II and MIDIIN2(X Pro II) from the Friendly Name of the Inputs, and also check the X Pro II and MIDIOUT2(X Pro II) from the Friendly Name of the Outputs, then click on OK,
- In the Controller/Surface Settings window, select MIDIIN2(X Pro II) from the pop-up list of Input Port, select MIDIOUT2(X Pro II) from the pop-up list of Output Port, then click on the OK button,
- Go to menu: Utilities > Mackie Control – 1
- In the pop-up window, find and check the Disable handshake from the Options box, close the window to finish setup.
Bitwig (Mackie Control)
- Open Bitwig, click on SETTINGS tab in dashboard, then select Controllers tab, click on Add Controller,
- In the Add Controller window, select Generic from the pop-up list of Hardware Vendor, select MIDI Keyboard under the Product box, then click on Add,
- In the Generic MIDI Keyboard window, select X Pro II as Input port
- Repeat step 1 to add a controller, in the Add Controller window, select Mackie from the pop-up list of Hardware Vendor, select MCU PRO under the Product box, then click on Add,
- In the Mackie MCU PRO window, select MIDIIN2(X Pro II) as Input port, and select MIDIOUT2(X Pro II) as Output port, close the window to finish setup.
Ableton Live (Mackie Control)
- Go to menu: Options > Preference…
- Click on the Link MIDI tab, select MackieControl from the pop-up list of Control Surface, and select X Pro II (Port 2) from the pop-up list of both Input and Output.
MIDIPLUS Control Center
- Keyboard: You can configure the Vel. Curve, MIDI Channel, Scale and Scale Mode of keyboard.
- X Knob: You can configure the mode of X Knob. In CC mode, you can change the CC number and MDI Channel.
- Knob: You can configure the CC number and MIDI Channel of 8 control knobs.
- Transport: You can configure the mode of transport buttons. In CC mode, you can change the CC number, MDI Channel and button type.
- Control Buttons: You can configure the mode of control buttons. In Program Change mode, you can change the sound of 8 buttons. And in CC mode, you can change the CC number, MDI Channel and button type.
- Pedal: You can configure the CC number and MIDI Channel of 2 pedal ports.
- Touch Strip: You can configure the CC number and MIDI Channel of 2 touch strips.
- PAD: You can configure the mode of PADs. In Note mode, you can change the note and MIDI Channel. And in CC mode, you can change the CC number, MIDI Channel and PAD type.
