Marvelmind Navigation System – System Elements Overview
The system is built from a Dashboard control app, ultrasonic beacons (stationary and mobile), and a modem that powers and coordinates the system while streaming tracking data.
Key Specifications (from the provided manual text)
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Dashboard app | Runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac; Windows 11 64-bit and Linux Ubuntu 18.04 listed in minimum requirements |
| Dashboard – Minimum system requirements | Intel Core i5-4200M (or equivalent); 8 GB RAM; 1920×1080 display; 1 GB available storage; USB 2.0 port |
| Ultrasonic beacons – Radio bands | 433 MHz (out of production; bug-fixing SW update only) and 868/915 MHz versions available (proprietary radio protocol for communication/synchronization) |
| Modem – Starter Set radio coverage (example) | Up to ~100 meters (stated as usually within radio coverage of the Starter Set antennas) |
| Modem – Extended radio range (stated) | Up to a few hundred meters; up to 400 m in ideal conditions (using lower bitrate 38 kbps and full-size 165 mm antennas for 433 and 915 MHz) |
| Super-Beacon – TX ultrasonic frequencies | 19 kHz, 22 kHz, 25 kHz, 28 kHz, 31 kHz, 34 kHz, 37 kHz, 45 kHz (hardware-defined; specified on sticker and shown in Dashboard settings) |
| Super-Beacon – RX ultrasonic frequencies | Can receive any of: 19/22/25/28/31/34/37/45 kHz simultaneously (from the listed bands) |
| Mini-RX reception angles | 360° horizontally and 120° vertically (with housing, stated as 360×120) |
| Mini-TX – Radio band support | 868/915 MHz only (433 MHz not supported and not planned) |
| Super-Modem – Wi‑Fi streaming | UDP streaming over Wi‑Fi (license MMSW0016) to a user-specified IP/port |
Quick Setup / Use Steps (source-grounded)
- Install/use the Dashboard app to set up and tune the system and access tracking data.
- Power the modem whenever the Navigation System is working (USB power via an active USB hub or USB power supply is recommended).
- Place the stationary beacons at locations that provide maximum ultrasonic signal coverage (the system efficacy depends on ultrasonic signal quality).
- Place the mobile beacon (hedgehog) on the robot/vehicle/copter/AGV/helmet and keep its ultrasonic sensors unobstructed; for optimal coverage in the upper hemisphere, install it horizontally.
- During map configuration, stationary beacons emit/receive ultrasound; select the appropriate architecture behavior in the system (NIA/IA/MF NIA) via the Dashboard as needed.
- Use the Dashboard to configure update rate and (for mobile beacons) ensure the number of active mobile beacons matches the desired location update rate behavior.
Note: The system can work without a computer, internet access, or cloud after it is set up; calculations are spread between the modem and the beacons.
Troubleshooting
- Mobile beacon ultrasonic signal is weak or system performance is poor: Ensure the mobile beacon’s ultrasonic sensors are not covered by anything that reduces ultrasonic signal strength (e.g., avoid placing the mobile beacon in a plastic box).
- Stationary beacon map/communication behavior seems incorrect: Verify the architecture mode used during configuration. The manual states that in non-inverse architecture stationary beacons work as receivers only after the map is formed and frozen, while in inverse architecture they work only as transmitters.
- Beacon Mini-RX appears over-discharged: Turn off the beacon with DIP switches, charge it for 1 hour, turn it on, flash the latest SW via DFU programming, then charge it for 1 hour again.
- Super-Beacon won’t behave correctly after firmware/settings changes: Do not change the Super-Beacon ultrasonic transmit frequency setting—keep it the same as specified on the sticker (the frequency is hardware-defined and shown in Dashboard settings).
- Industrial beacon firmware/update risks: The manual warns that uploading the wrong Industrial (non-super) DFU software to Industrial Super-Beacon hardware may permanently damage the board; confirm beacon version/batch before applying SW.
