Wiring Diagram
The diagram illustrates connecting a DMX master to the D5-P decoder. The DMX signal (D+, D-, GND) is routed from the master to the decoder's input terminals. The decoder's output terminals (R, G, B, W1, W2, and common positive) are connected to a RGB+CCT LED strip. A power supply (12-48VDC Constant Voltage, AC100-240V input) is connected to the decoder's power input terminals.
Diagram shows a DMX master connected to a D5-P decoder. The decoder's inputs are DMX (D+, D-, GND) and power (12-48VDC). The outputs are for 5 channels (R, G, B, W1, W2) plus a common positive. The diagram also shows an RGB+CCT LED strip connected to the outputs and a power supply connected to the inputs.
Notes:
- An DMX signal amplifier is recommended if connecting more than 32 decoders or using long signal lines. Signal amplification should not exceed 5 times continuously.
- To mitigate issues from long signal lines or poor line quality, connect a 0.25W 90-120Ω terminal resistor at the end of each DMX signal line.
- 'OLA' displayed indicates an overload alarm.
- 'OHA' displayed indicates an overheat alarm.
Operation
System Parameter Setting
To enter system parameter setup, long press the [M key] and [arrow key] simultaneously for 2 seconds. Use the [M key] to cycle through parameters: grey level, output PWM frequency, output brightness curve, default output level, and automatic blank screen. Use the [arrow key] to adjust values.
- Grey Level: Select 8-bit ("b08") or 16-bit ("b16") grey scale. 16-bit is recommended if the DMX master supports it for smoother gradients.
- Output PWM Frequency: Selectable frequencies include 250Hz ("F02"), 500Hz ("F05"), 1000Hz ("F10"), 2000Hz ("F20"), 4000Hz ("F40"), 8000Hz ("F80"), 16000Hz ("F16"), or 32000Hz ("F32"). Higher frequencies reduce current and power noise but are better for video recording (no flicker). Note: When PWM frequency exceeds 8000Hz, the output current per channel must be reduced (e.g., 5x3A@12-48V for 16000Hz or 32000Hz).
- Output Brightness Curve: Choose between a linear curve ("C-L") or a logarithmic curve ("C-E").
- Default Output Level: Sets the output level when no DMX signal is present. Options are to maintain the last DMX output ("d--") or set a default level ("d00" to "dFF", representing 0-100%). Long press [arrow key] to change the default level.
- Automatic Blank Screen: Enable ("bon") or disable ("boF") the automatic blank screen feature.
Long press the [M key] for 2 seconds or wait for 10 seconds of inactivity to quit system parameter setting.
Note: System parameters can also be configured via the RDM function.
DMX Mode
- Short press the [M key] to enter DMX mode when the display shows "001~512".
- Use the [arrow key] to change the DMX decode start address (001-512). Long press for faster adjustment.
- The decoder automatically enters DMX mode if a DMX signal is detected.
- DMX Dimming: Each D5-P/D5-E decoder uses 5 DMX addresses. For example, with a start address of 1, the addresses correspond to LED channels as follows:
- DMX Console CH1 (0-255) maps to Decoder CH1 PWM (0-100%) (LED R)
- DMX Console CH2 (0-255) maps to Decoder CH2 PWM (0-100%) (LED G)
- DMX Console CH3 (0-255) maps to Decoder CH3 PWM (0-100%) (LED B)
- DMX Console CH4 (0-255) maps to Decoder CH4 PWM (0-100%) (LED W1)
- DMX Console CH5 (0-255) maps to Decoder CH5 PWM (0-100%) (LED W2)
Diagram shows the DMX mode display, typically showing the current address (e.g., "001").
Self-test Mode
- Enter self-test mode only when the DMX signal is disconnected or lost.
- Short press the [M key] to enter self-test mode when the display shows "L-1~L-6".
- Use the [arrow key] to cycle through the 6 self-test modes (L-1 to L-6).
- Self-test modes include individual channel testing or synchronized channel activation.
Diagram shows the self-test mode display, typically showing the current mode number (e.g., "L-1").
Restore Factory Default Setting
Long press the [M key] and [arrow key] simultaneously for 2 seconds to restore factory default parameters. The display will show "RES".
Factory Default Parameters: DMX decode mode, start address 1, 8-bit grey level, 2000Hz PWM frequency, logarithmic brightness curve, 100% output level when no DMX input, RGB mode 1, dimmer mode 1, automatic blank screen disabled.
Dimming Curve Setting
The decoder supports both linear and logarithmic dimming curves, allowing for different visual effects in lighting control.
A graph titled "Linear dimming curve" shows a straight line representing a linear relationship between Brightness (%) and PWM duty (%). The line starts at (0,0) and ends at (100,100), with Gamma = 1.0.
A graph titled "Logarithmic dimming curve" shows a curved line representing a logarithmic relationship between Brightness (%) and PWM duty (%). The curve starts at (0,0) and rises steeply, then flattens out, with Gamma = 1.6.
