BLENDING TIPS AND HINTS

  • Liquid should not come closer than 1 inch (2.5 cm) from where the shaft attaches to the motor housing.
  • When using on a nonstick cooking surface, be careful not to scratch the coating with the edge of blender blade guard.
  • Do not immerse motor body housing or whisk gearbox in water or any other liquids.
  • Cut solid foods into ½-inch (1.25 cm) cubes for easier blending.
  • Pour liquid ingredients into the 3-cup (750 ml) beaker first, unless recipe instructs otherwise.
  • Never operate the hand blender continuously for longer than 1 minute. For best results, allow 20–30 seconds rest time in between 1-minute cycles.
  • To avoid splashing, don't turn the hand blender on until the blade guard is submerged beneath the surface of the mixture, and do not pull the hand blender out of the mixture until the blade has completely stopped.
  • Do not let hand blender stand in a hot pot on stove while not in use.
  • Do not put fruit pits, bones, or other hard material into the blending mixture, as these are liable to damage the blades.
  • Do not fill mixing containers too full. The level of mixture will rise when blending, and can overflow.
  • Adding liquids that are warm, not cold, facilitates blending solids with liquids.
  • Using a gentle up-and-down motion is the best way to blend and incorporate ingredients uniformly.
  • To whip air into a mixture, always hold the blade just under the surface.
  • To purée a soup, use the hand blender to blend the soup solids to the desired consistency using a gentle up-and-down motion right in the saucepan or pot. You can quickly change chunky ingredients and stock into thick and creamy soup.
  • The hand blender is the ideal tool for frothing milk for cappuccino or lattes.
  • Use the hand blender to make smooth gravies and pan sauces.

WHISKING TIPS AND HINTS

Use the whisk attachment for beating heavy cream or egg whites. It may also be used for anything that you would normally whisk by hand, like crêpe batters or eggs for omelets.

BEATING EGG WHITES

When beating egg whites, use a very clean metal or glass bowl, never plastic. Plastic can contain hidden oils and fats that can ruin the delicate egg white foam. To help stabilize the egg whites, add ¼ teaspoon (0.5 ml) of cream of tartar per egg white prior to beating them. (If using a copper bowl, omit the cream of tartar.) Beat the egg whites, starting on Low and gradually raising to High, just until soft peaks form firmly enough not to droop over. Beating the egg whites longer will cause them to dry out and become even less stable. When adding sugar to beaten egg whites, start adding it slowly just as soft peaks begin to form. Continue beating until peaks are firm enough not to droop.

BEATING HEAVY CREAM

When beating heavy cream, if possible and time allows, use a chilled bowl and chill the whisk attachment. The best shaped bowl for whipping cream is one that is deep with a rounded bottom. The cream should come out of the refrigerator just before whipping. Whipped cream may be used at either soft or firm peaks, depending on preference. It may be flavored as desired. For best results, start whipping on Low and gradually raise to High. Whip cream just before using.

ASSEMBLY

BLENDING ATTACHMENT

Align the motor body housing with the blending shaft and push the pieces together until you hear and feel them click and connect. If they don't easily connect, just pull the housing and blending shaft slightly apart, rotate the shaft a little, push the pieces together again and listen for the click.

WHISK ATTACHMENT

  1. Align the end of the whisk (A) with the small opening of the whisk gearbox (B).
  2. Push end into opening until it locks into position (C).
  3. Align the motor body with the whisk assembly and push the gearbox and motor body together until you hear and feel them click and connect. If they don't easily connect, just pull the housing and blending shaft slightly apart, rotate the shaft a little, push the pieces together again and listen for the click.

CHOPPER ATTACHMENT

  1. Connect the motor body housing to the top of the work bowl cover.
  2. Align the spine in the chopper cover's drive shaft with the ribbed opening on the underside of the motor body housing.
  3. When aligned properly, slide the two pieces together until you feel and hear a slight click.

Diagram Description: Assembly diagrams show how to connect the whisk attachment to its gearbox and then to the motor body. Another diagram illustrates connecting the motor body to the chopper attachment cover.

OPERATION

Do not hold LOCK/UNLOCK button down once the blender is operating.

BLENDING

The specially designed blade is for mixing and puréeing all kinds of foods, including salad dressings, powdered drink products, soups and sauces, and blended drinks like milkshakes or smoothies. This blade mixes and stirs while adding only a minimum of air to your mixture. A gentle up-and-down motion is all you need to make the most flavorful, full-bodied recipes. Be careful never to remove the blending shaft from the liquid while in operation.

  1. Connect the blending shaft to the motor body housing.
  2. Plug electrical cord into a wall socket.
  3. Immerse the blade end of blending shaft into mixture to be blended. You can blend in the 3-cup (750 ml) beaker, bowl, pot, saucepan or pitcher.
  4. Turn the variable speed control to the speed recommended in your recipe. NOTE: Blending speed can change while blending.
  5. To turn the blender on:

Operation Illustration Description: Three images show the sequence for starting the blender: 1. Press and hold LOCK/UNLOCK button. 2. Then press and hold ON/OFF button. 3. Release LOCK/UNLOCK button while continuing to hold down ON/OFF button.

NOTE: Do not continuously blend for longer than 60 seconds. Release ON/OFF button for 20–30 seconds between 60-second blending cycles.

  1. Unplug immediately after use.

WHISKING

  1. Insert the whisk assembly into the motor body. (See Assembly for Whisk Attachment, page 8.)
  2. Plug electrical cord into a wall socket.
  3. Put the whisk into mixture that will be blended.
  4. Turn the variable speed control to the desired speed. To begin whisking, follow the instructions in #5 under Blending, page 8.
  5. Unplug immediately after use.

TO PULSE

  1. Press and hold the LOCK/UNLOCK button.
  2. Then press and hold the ON/OFF button.
  3. Repeatedly press and release the ON/OFF button while continuing to hold down the LOCK/UNLOCK button to PULSE until ingredients reach desired consistency.

CHOPPING FOOD

  1. Place the work bowl on a flat, sturdy surface like a countertop.
  2. Assemble the stainless chopping blade into the chopper bowl.
  3. Put food in the work bowl. Be sure the food is cut into small pieces [½ to 1 inch (1.25 to 2.5 cm)], and the bowl is not overloaded.
  4. Attach the lid onto the chopper bowl and turn it in a clockwise direction until it locks in position. To remove lid, turn counter-clockwise.
  5. Assemble the chopper with the motor unit, connect them and lock into place.
  6. Press the unlock button to unlock the unit and then press the on/off button to start. You can select the desired speed setting by dialing the speed knob. The speed will increase gradually as you dial the speed control dial from left to right.

Note: Due to the powerful motor, Cuisinart recommends using one hand to support the work bowl during operation.

Note: Max operation duration per time should be less than 1 minute, and a 3-minute rest time must be maintained between two consecutive cycles.

  1. When you have finished processing the food, stop the machine by taking your finger off the desired speed button.
  2. WHEN THE BLADE STOPS MOVING, unplug the unit.
  3. Remove the motor unit from the chopper lid by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction.
  4. Carefully remove the chopping blade, holding it by the gripping ridges on the plastic sheath. NEVER TOUCH THE BLADE ITSELF.
  5. Remove food with a spatula.

Note: Do not operate the chopper attachment without food contents in the work bowl.

Caution:

  • Be sure chopper lid is securely locked in place before operating appliance.
  • During operating or after chopping, for safety, you shall disassemble the motor unit from the chopper lid firstly, then remove the chopper lid. Never remove the chopper lid with the motor unit in place.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

SMART STICK® VARIABLE SPEED HAND BLENDER

Any service, other than cleaning and normal user maintenance, should be performed by an authorized Cuisinart Service Representative.

CHOPPER ATTACHMENT

To simplify cleaning, rinse the work bowl, blade and cover immediately after use so that food won't dry on them. Do not submerge the work bowl cover in water or put in the dishwasher. Wash chopping blade and work bowl in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry. Wipe the underside of the cover with a sponge or damp cloth to remove any food. Wash the blade carefully. Avoid leaving it in soapy water where it may disappear from sight.

You can wash the work bowl and chopping blade on the upper shelf of your dishwasher. Unload the dishwasher carefully to avoid contact with the sharp blade. Wipe the motor body and top of the cover with a damp sponge or cloth. Dry it immediately. Never submerge the motor body or the cover in water or other liquids. The chopper attachment is intended for HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.

CANVAS STORAGE POUCH

When not in use, your hand blender should be disconnected, wiped down and stored in a safe, dry location out of reach of children. Use the storage pouch provided with hand blender. If needed, wash storage pouch by hand using mild soap and warm water.

Any service, other than cleaning and normal user maintenance, should be performed by an authorized Cuisinart Service Representative.

TIPS AND HINTS

FOR HAND BLENDER

  • Always unplug hand blender when not in use or immediately after use.
  • Be sure that blending blade guard is fully submerged before blending ingredients.
  • To purée a soup, use the hand blender to blend the soup ingredients to the desired consistency, using a gentle up-and-down motion right in the saucepan or pot.
  • When blending ingredients right in a pot or pan, tilt the pan away from you to create a deeper area for blending to prevent splatter.
  • When using a nonstick cooking surface, be careful not to scratch the coating with the hand blender.
  • When blending in the blending cup, for example, when making a fruit smoothie, cut most solid foods into ½-inch pieces for easy blending.
  • When blending in the mixing cup, pour liquid ingredients in first, unless recipe instructs otherwise.
  • Liquid should not come closer than 1 inch of where the shaft attaches to the motor housing.
  • The hand blender is perfect for frothing milk for cappuccino or lattes. Just warm milk in a small saucepan, and then pulse the hand blender gently, being sure to keep the blending blade guard fully submerged.
  • Do not let hand blender stand in a hot pot on stove while not in use.
  • Do not attempt to blend fruit pits, bones or other hard materials, as these are liable to damage the blades.
  • Do not fill mixing containers too full. The level of mixture will rise when blending and can overflow.
  • To whip air into a mixture, always hold the blade just under the surface.
  • Using a gentle up-and-down motion is the best way to blend and incorporate ingredients uniformly.
  • Use the hand blender to make smooth gravies and pan sauces.
  • Do not immerse motor body housing in water or any other liquid.

FOR WHISK ATTACHMENT

  • Do not immerse whisk attachment gearbox in water or any other liquid.
  • Use the whisk attachment for beating heavy cream or egg whites.

FOR FOOD CHOPPER/GRINDER ATTACHMENT

  • When making compound butters, remove the butter from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before blending the ingredients.
  • Some spices may scratch the work bowl.
  • Liquids in work bowl should not exceed ½ cups (375 ml). Use quantities given in the recipe section as a guide.
  • Do not overload work bowl. For best results most foods should not reach more than ⅔ of the way up the work bowl.
  • Do not attempt to chop fruit pits, bones or other hard materials, as these are liable to damage the blades.
  • Do not immerse chopper/grinder cover in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not operate chopper/grinder attachment for more than 30 seconds continuously.
  • The size of pieces you put in bowl should be about the same size to achieve even results.
  • For raw ingredients: peel, core and/or remove seeds and pits. Food should be between ½ and 1 inch (1.25 and 2.5 cm), depending on hardness of the food.
  • Pulse food in 1-second increments to chop. For the finest chop, process continuously. Watch ingredients closely to achieve desired consistency, and scrape the work bowl as necessary.
