Device Overview
The front panel features a power button, a TFT LCD display, function keys (WAVE, MOD, SYS, MEAS, OK), shortcut buttons (CH1, CH2), BNC output terminals (CH1, CH2), and an external input (Ext. IN). A rotary switch is used for adjustments.
The rear panel includes a TTL interface for PC connection, a USB interface for PC connection, and a DC 5V power input. The display shows parameters for CH1 and CH2, including frequency, amplitude, offset, duty cycle, and phase, along with the waveform display and output status.
Shortcut Overview
- WAVE: Configuration of waveform.
- MEAS: Configuration of measuring mode.
- MOD: Activation of the modulation mode.
- SYS: System settings.
- OK: Control of the output of CH1 and CH2; used as control and confirmation (on/off) in other menus.
- CH1: Selection of channel 1; hold down to set CH1 as the main channel.
- CH2: Selection of channel 2; hold down to set CH2 as the main channel.
- Arrow Keys: Moving the position of the cursor.
- Rotary Switch: Adjusting values.
Parameter Settings in the Main Interface
Pressing OK simultaneously enables or disables the output of both channels. Use CH1 and CH2 buttons to switch between channels and activate/deactivate their outputs. Holding a channel button sets it as the main interface.
The WAVE button activates waveform selection, which can be quickly changed with the rotary button. Arrow keys navigate between waveforms and presets.
Use the FREQ button to highlight the frequency parameter. Arrow keys move the cursor to the value to be edited, and the rotary button edits it. Holding the multifunctional button changes the unit (μHz, mHz, Hz, KHz, MHz).
Pressing the MEAS button followed by the FUNC button switches between measuring and counting functions. The device can measure input frequency, period, positive pulse width, and duty cycle. The measuring frequency range is 1 Hz to 100 MHz, with a signal amplitude range of 2 Vpp to 20 Vpp via the ext. IN interface.
- Coupling Settings: Press COUP to switch between AC and DC modes.
- Gate Time Settings: Press GATE to set the gate time (0.01 - 10 S). Use arrow keys and rotary button for adjustment.
- Measuring Mode: Press MODE to switch between counting frequency and counting period.
- Measurement Parameters: Frequency, period, positive pulse width, negative pulse width, duty cycle. Use the ON button to start counting and the multifunctional button 1 to stop it.
Modulation Mode
Press MOD to enter modulation mode. Press FUNC to switch between sweep (CH1/CH2), pulse (CH1), and burst (CH1) functions.
- Sweep Function: Set start and end frequencies, with time adjustable between 0.1 and 999.9 s. Use multifunctional buttons (Δ) to set parameters and arrow keys/rotary button for adjustment.
- Pulse Function: Configure pulse wave width and pulse time. Use multifunctional buttons to select pulse width, period, offset, and amplitude, adjusting with arrow keys. Pulse width and time can be set using the rotary button. Switch between ns and μs with the OK button.
- Burst Function: Set pulse sequence from 1 to 108575 periods. Modes include internal CH2 bursts, external input bursts, and manual bursts. Use multifunctional buttons to select pulse number and burst mode, adjusting parameters with arrow keys. Use ON to start and OFF to end functions.
System Configuration
Press SYS to access the setup menu. Use multifunctional buttons (Δ) for navigation. Settings include Save & Load, Sound, Brightness, Language, Synchronization, and Arbitrary Wave Display.
- Save & Load: Save adjusted values in data groups (0-99) and load them. Use CLR to clear data groups.
- Sound Setting: Activate/deactivate sound with ON/OFF buttons.
- Brightness Configuration: Adjust brightness across 12 levels.
- Language Settings: English, German, and French are available.
- Synchronization: CH1 is the target; CH2 parameters change accordingly. Use buttons to select synchronization points. Use ON to select and OFF to quit.
- Arbitrary Wave Display Settings: Adjust the number of waveforms in the main interface (1-60) using the rotary button.
PC Software Installation
Download the latest PC software from the website and run JDS6600.exe. Follow the on-screen prompts for installation, including accepting the license agreement, selecting the installation path, and choosing features. The NI-VISA 5.4 Runtime is required.
Installation Steps:
- Start the installer (JDS6600.exe).
- Click 'Next >>' on the welcome screen.
- Enter the installation path and click 'Next >>'.
- Confirm the selection of modules to be installed.
- Optionally disable automatic search for updates.
- It is recommended to disable Windows Fast Startup for stable installation. Confirm deactivation.
- The installation will proceed. Exit the installer upon completion.
Using the Software
Connect the signal generator via USB or USB-TTL cable. Start the JDS6600 software and select the correct COM port in the 'Configuration' tab. Establish the connection by clicking 'Connect'.
The 'Control Panel' tab allows outputting standard waveforms and function signals. Parameters like Frequency, Amplitude, Offset, Duty, and Phase can be adjusted for CH1 and CH2. Waveform synchronization options are also available.
The 'Extend Function' tab provides access to measuring, counting, burst, sweep, and pulse functions. The 'Arbitrary' tab allows creating and storing custom waveforms (up to 15 on the device).
