The BLACK BOX AVSC-HDMI-VIDEO is an HDMI to Video Scaler and Converter designed to convert digital HDMI and audio signals into component/CVBS video formats. It supports both digital audio (S/PDIF) and analog stereo audio outputs. This device allows HDMI-based sources, such as Blu-ray players, game consoles (PS3), DVD players, camcorders, and set-top boxes, to connect to PC LCD monitors and PC speakers. It also enables the connection of full digital video and audio to CVBS monitors and S/PDIF-equipped audio receivers and amplifiers, enhancing compatibility with home theater systems.

Hardware Description
The device features front and back panels with various connectors and controls.
Front Panel
The front panel includes:
- 1: CVBS output connector (for CVBS display)
- 2, 3: Stereo audio out connectors (L, R) (for analog stereo audio speaker)
- 4: DIP switch (for firmware update mode ON/normal mode OFF)
- 5: LED indicators (Red for Power, Green for Video Signal)
- 6: IR sensor (receives IR commands)
- 7: Push buttons (Down, Up, Menu/Enter)

Back Panel
The back panel includes:
- 8: Interlocking power jack (connects to 5 VDC power supply unit)
- 9: Mini-USB port (for firmware update and connection to 5 VDC power supply unit)
- 10: S/PDIF Audio out connector (for digital S/PDIF audio speaker)
- 11, 12, 13: Component output connectors (Y, Pb, Pr)
- 14: HDMI IN connector (connects to a HDMI source)

Connection Diagram
A typical application involves connecting an HDMI source (e.g., DVD player) via an HDMI cable to the AVSC-HDMI-VIDEO's HDMI IN port. The device converts this signal to component (YPbPr) and CVBS video outputs, along with analog stereo audio (L/R) or digital S/PDIF audio outputs. These outputs connect to a display or audio receiver.

Operation
Operation can be performed via the physical push buttons on the unit or using the IR remote control.
Method A: Push-in Button Control
The front panel features push buttons for basic control:

Method C: IR Remote Control via Mini-USB Port
The device can also be controlled via a PC interface using the Mini-USB port, allowing for firmware updates and advanced settings adjustments through a software application.
The software interface includes controls for:
- COM Port Selection and Detection
- Output Setup (Resolution, Mode, Pattern)
- Image Adjustment (Contrast, Brightness, Saturation, Hue, B/W Extension, Color Tone, Edge Enhance, Sharpness)
- General Adjustment (Under/Over Scan, Aspect Ratio, H/V Mirror, H/V Shift)
- System Information (Input Resolution, Firmware Version, Factory Reset)
- Firmware Update (Load File, Burn, Cancel)

Firmware Update Procedure
- STEP A: Unplug the Mini-USB connector from the device.
- STEP B: Set the DIP switch to ON (UP).
- STEP C: Connect the device to the PC via a USB to mini-USB cable.
- STEP D: Launch the firmware update software and click the "FW Update" button.
- STEP E: Click "Load File" to select the firmware file.
- STEP F: Click "Burn" to start the firmware update process.
- STEP G: Unplug the Mini-USB connector from the device.
- STEP H: Set the DIP switch to OFF (DOWN).
- The firmware update process is complete.
Additional functions include I/O Port and Resolution Info display, Refresh Button, and Output Quick Selection Button.
Troubleshooting
Contacting Black Box
If the HDMI to Video Scaler and Converter malfunctions, do not attempt to repair it as it contains no user-serviceable parts. Contact Black Box Technical Support at 724-746-5500 or info@blackbox.com. Provide a detailed history of the problem, including:
- The nature and duration of the problem.
- When the problem occurs.
- The components involved.
- Any specific application context that triggers or worsens the problem.
Shipping and Packaging
When transporting or shipping the unit:
- Package it carefully, preferably in the original container.
- If returning the unit, ensure all original contents are included.
- Contact Black Box to obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number before shipping for return or repair.
Safety Information and Compliance
This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio-frequency energy. If not installed and used properly, it may cause interference to radio communication. It has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A computing device, designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference in a commercial environment. Operation in a residential area may cause interference, requiring user-initiated corrective measures at their own expense. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

- Take care to prevent liquids from being spilled on the casing or ventilation openings.
- Service by qualified personnel is required when:
- The power cable or plug is damaged.
- Objects have fallen or liquid has been spilled into the apparatus.
- The apparatus has been exposed to rain.
- The apparatus appears not to operate normally or shows a performance change.
- The apparatus has been dropped or its casing damaged.
