Yamaha RX-A8A Quick Start Guide
This document provides basic speaker system setup and unit configuration for the Yamaha RX-A8A AV Receiver. For detailed information, refer to the User Guide available at https://manual.yamaha.com/av/20/rxa8a/.
Important Safety Information: Please read the supplied "Safety Brochure" before using the unit.
1. Confirming Accessories and Preparing Cables (Not Supplied)
Supplied Accessories:
- Remote control (x1)
- Batteries (AAA, LR03, UM-4) (x2)
- AM antenna (x1)
- FM antenna (x1)
- DAB/FM antenna (x1) (for UK, Europe, Russia, Australia)
- YPAO microphone (x1)

Cables (Not Supplied):
- Speaker cables (depending on the number of speakers)

Precautions for Cables:
- Do not prepare speaker cables near the unit to prevent short circuits or malfunctions caused by dropped wire strands.
- Do not connect speaker cables improperly to avoid short circuits that could damage the unit or speakers.
2. Connecting Speakers/Subwoofer
This section details the positioning of speakers for a 7.1.4-channel system. Refer to the diagram for specific speaker placements (Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back, Presence, Subwoofer).
Note on Subwoofers: Use a subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Up to two subwoofers can be connected.
Speaker Impedance Information: Consult the User Guide for details on speaker impedance.
3. Connecting External Devices
Connect external devices such as a TV, BD/DVD player, and satellite/cable set-top box using HDMI cables.
For TV sound output through this unit, configure settings on both the unit and the TV.
Connect the antenna (AM, FM, or DAB/FM) to the appropriate terminals. Fix the antenna ends to a wall.
Connecting to TV: If the TV has multiple HDMI jacks, connect to the one labeled "ARC" or "eARC".
4. Connecting the FM/AM Antennas or DAB/FM Antenna
Connect the supplied AM, FM, or DAB/FM antennas to the unit. For optimal reception, it is recommended to fix the antenna ends to a wall.
5. Connecting the Power Cable to an AC Wall Outlet
Connect the supplied power cable to the unit and then to an AC wall outlet.
6. Turning on the Unit
- Press the power button on the remote control.
- Select this unit as the input source on your TV.
Troubleshooting: If "Check SP Wires" is displayed, turn off the unit and ensure speaker cables are not short-circuited.
7. Connecting to a Network with the MusicCast CONTROLLER App
- Download the MusicCast CONTROLLER app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Follow the app's on-screen instructions to configure network settings.
Note: The network setting screen may appear on the TV. Press (RETURN) to cancel and proceed to step 7.

8. Optimizing Speaker Settings Automatically (YPAO)
The Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) function automatically detects speaker connections, measures distances, and optimizes speaker settings (volume balance, acoustic parameters) for your room.
YPAO Measurement Procedure:
- Turn on the subwoofer and set its volume to half. If adjustable, set the crossover frequency to maximum.
- Connect the YPAO microphone to the unit. The start-up screen appears on the TV.
- Press (ENTER) on the remote control. Measurement starts in 10 seconds and takes about 3 minutes.
- After measurement, the "Measurement Finished" screen (B) is displayed. Select "Measurement result" and press (ENTER) if needed.
- Use the cursor keys on the remote control to select "Save" and press (ENTER).
- Disconnect the YPAO microphone.
Important YPAO Notes:
- Keep children and pets out of the room during measurement due to high test tone volume.
- Keep the room as quiet as possible.
- Avoid obstructing the path between speakers and the YPAO microphone.
- Use a tripod for the YPAO microphone for best results.
Error Messages: If an error or warning message is displayed, resolve the issue as instructed.
Other Functions
SCENE Function
Press SCENE 1 to select HDMI1 as the input source. HDMI1 can also be selected using the INPUT button. Start playback on your connected device and adjust volume.
Playing Music Files on a Bluetooth® Device
- Press BLUETOOTH.
- Select the unit from the available device list on your Bluetooth device.
- Select and play a music file on the Bluetooth device.
AirPlay
Click or tap the AirPlay icon in iTunes or on your iPhone, and select the unit as the audio output destination to listen to music.
