Hardware Connection
Site Consideration
Mounting Height: Ensure a clear line of sight between wireless devices for optimal performance. Elevated locations are recommended. Obstacles like trees, buildings, and steel structures can weaken the signal. Refer to the FAQ for details on calculating minimum mounting height.
Orientation: Install CPE devices pointing towards the receiving devices. Use Google Maps, GPS, and landmarks for orientation. The horizontal bandwidth of CPE605/CPE710 is 7°.
Hardware Installation
TERMS OF USE: Installation must be performed by a certified professional who adheres to local rules and regulations regarding frequency channels, output power, and Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS).
- Attach Side Reflector Panels:
- Insert mounting studs of the Center Reflector Panel into the large opening of the slots on the Side Reflector Panel.
- Slide the Side Reflector Panel until mounting studs align with the narrow opening of the slots. Ensure top edges are aligned.
- Repeat for the other Side Reflector Panel.
- Secure panels using M2.5*8 combination screws with M2.5*2 nuts (for CPE710).
- Attach Rear Cover:
- Align the raised edges on the back with the Securing Arms of the Rear Cover and Snap Hooks with the slots on the Center Reflector Panel.
- Press the Rear Cover at the marked positions sequentially until it locks.
- Insert Pharos CPE: Insert the CPE into the Rear Cover until it locks into place.
- Connect Ethernet Cable: Connect the Ethernet cable to the Pharos CPE's Ethernet port. The cable length can be up to 60m for stable power supply.
- Attach Protective Cap: Attach the Protective Cap to the Rear Cover.
- Attach Mounting Bracket: Align the grooves on the Mounting Bracket with the pins on the Rear Cover and attach it.
- Secure Mounting Bracket: Use M6x79 Hexagon Bolts with Wing Nut and Lock Washer Assemblies to secure the bracket.
- Attach CPE to Pole:
- Open the Metal Strap and feed it through the two slots of the Ball joint Mount.
- Wrap the strap around the pole and tighten securely using a socket wrench or screwdriver. Suitable pole diameters range from 15mm to 70mm.
- Adjust Azimuth and Elevation: Adjust the CPE's angles to achieve maximum signal strength.
WARNING: To avoid damage, do not place the panels on a flat surface or push down on them.
Power Supply
Connecting the PoE Adapter
Connect the devices as illustrated: CPE to PoE Adapter via Ethernet cable, PoE Adapter to a grounded power outlet.
Mounting the PoE Adapter (Optional): For secure attachment, install the adapter with the Ethernet port facing upward. Drill two holes, insert wall anchors, and secure the mounting bracket. Slide the adapter onto the bracket until it locks.
Lightning & ESD Protection
Proper grounding is crucial for outdoor devices. Use shielded CAT5e (or above) cable with a ground wire and the provided PoE adapter to eliminate ESD attacks. The diagram shows the connection from a grounded power outlet through the PoE adapter to the CPE, including details of the cable's construction (Sheath, Twisted Pair, Ground Wire, Cable Shield).
Installer Compliance Responsibility
Devices must be professionally installed. Installers are responsible for ensuring the device operates within local rules and regulations. TP-Link's Pharos outdoor CPE can be paired with various antennas. The Antenna and Transmit Power settings assist installers in meeting regulatory requirements.
Refer to the Antenna and Transmit Power fields to ensure devices operate within local rules and regulations.
Software Configuration
Logging in to the PharOS
- Assign a static IP address (192.168.0.X, where X is 2-253) to your computer.
- Open a web browser and navigate to http://192.168.0.254. Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari are recommended.
- Enter 'admin' for both User Name and Password. Select the language, agree to the terms of use, and click Login.
- Change the default User Name and Password for security.
Note: For subsequent logins, use the new username and password. For more configurations, download the User Guide from the TP-Link support website.
Configuration for a Typical Application
This section describes setting up a wireless bridge between an access point and clients.
Configure the Access Point (AP)
- Log in to PharOS and go to the Quick Setup page.
- Set Operation Mode to 'Access Point' and click Next.
- Click Next for LAN Settings.
- Wireless AP Settings:
- Create a new SSID (Network name).
- Select WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK for Security and create a PSK Password.
- Enter the distance between the Access Point and the Client in the Distance Setting field.
- Select the MAXtream checkbox (if applicable; CPE710 does not support MAXtream) and click Next.
- Verify settings and click Finish.
Configure the Client
- Log in to PharOS and go to the Quick Setup page.
- Set Operation Mode to 'Client' and click Next.
- Change the IP Address to 192.168.0.X (same subnet as AP) and click Next.
- Wireless Client Settings:
- Click Survey, select the AP's SSID, and click Connect.
- Select WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, enter the same PSK password and distance value as the AP, then click Next.
- Verify settings and click Finish.
For more configurations, visit the TP-Link support website.
Antenna Alignment
Precisely align the CPE's direction using the Wireless Signal Quality on the STATUS page of the PharOS Web Interface to achieve the best performance. Adjust the CPE's direction until the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) reaches its maximum.
The diagram illustrates adjusting the CPE direction for optimal signal strength (WBS+Antenna).

FAQ
Q1. How to restore the CPE to its factory default settings?
Method 1: With the CPE powered on, press and hold the RESET button on the CPE for about 5 seconds.
Method 2: With the CPE powered on, press and hold the Remote Reset button on the passive PoE adapter for about 5 seconds.
Q2. How to calculate the minimum mounting height of the devices?
To maximize received signal strength, minimize the effect of out-of-phase signals caused by obstacles. Fresnel Zone is used to calculate this path. The formula is: r = (d₁xd₂xc) / (d₁+d₂)f, where r is the Fresnel zone radius, c is the speed of light, f is the operating frequency, and d₁ & d₂ are distances. The minimum mounting height H should satisfy H ≥ h + r*(1-40%), where h is the obstacle height. Example calculation provided.
For more information, refer to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnel_zone
Q3. What is Pharos MAXtream?
Pharos MAXtream is a proprietary TP-Link protocol based on TDMA. Advantages include eliminating hidden node collisions, improving channel efficiency, lower latency, higher throughput, larger network capacity, more stability, and improved QoS for video, voice, and data. It divides transmission timing into time slots for rapid succession, reducing collisions. MAXtream is a non-standard Wi-Fi protocol compatible only with TP-Link's Pharos series products.
Q4. How can I use Spectrum Analysis to find the appropriate channel for the devices?
- Log in to PharOS, click Spectrum Analysis in the Tools drop-down list. Confirm that wireless connections will be lost.
- Click Start to analyze frequency power. Observe curves and click Stop. Low, continuous parts of the average curve indicate less radio noise.
- Choose channels/frequencies with minimal radio noise. The example recommends channel/frequency 112/5560 MHz.
Safety Information
- Keep the device away from fire or hot environments. Do not immerse in water or any other liquid.
- Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device. Contact TP-Link for service.
- Do not use damaged chargers or USB cables.
- Use only recommended chargers.
- Do not use the device where wireless devices are not allowed.
- The adapter should be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
