Safety Information
Important Notes:
- Dangers, warnings, and cautions alert you to important operating instructions or potentially hazardous situations. Pay special attention to these.
- This alarm is not intended to alert hearing-impaired individuals. Alcohol or drug use may impair one's ability to hear the smoke alarm.
- Fires in chimneys, walls, roofs, different levels, or behind closed doors might not be detected.
- This device does not detect flames, heat, carbon monoxide, or other hazardous gases.
Warnings:
- Never ignore any alarm. Failure to respond can result in serious injury or death.
- The silence feature is for convenience and does not correct a problem. Always check your home for a potential problem after any alarm. Failure to do so can result in injury or death.
- Test this smoke alarm once a week. If the alarm fails to test correctly, replace it immediately. An improperly working alarm will not alert you to a problem.
Installation Positioning
Prioritize installation in bedrooms and walkways to ensure alarms are audible from all sleeping areas. In homes with multiple bedrooms, install an alarm in every bedroom. If only one alarm is installed, place it near all bedrooms, avoiding basements or furnace rooms.
Install an alarm above stairways and on every floor of the house.
Smoke, heat, and burning particles spread horizontally after rising. Install alarms in the middle of the ceiling where possible, ensuring they are at the minimum distance from corners.
If ceiling placement is not possible, install at a distance of 20 inches (50 cm) from corners.
For wall mounting, maintain a distance of 4-12 inches (10-30 cm) below the ceiling.
In rooms or hallways exceeding 30 feet (900 cm) in length, install multiple alarms.
On angled ceilings, install alarms within 3 feet (90 cm) of the highest wall or ceiling point (measured horizontally).
Diagram Description (Ceiling/Sidewall): Illustrates optimal ceiling placement for smoke alarms, showing a 'BEST HERE' area in the center, an 'ACCEPTABLE HERE' area, and 'DEAD AIR SPACE' near corners. Sidewall mounting is shown with a maximum distance from the ceiling (12 inches / 30 cm) and minimum distance from the wall (4 inches / 10 cm).
Diagram Description (Angled Ceiling): Shows acceptable placement on angled ceilings, indicating areas within 3 feet (90 cm) of the highest point, and areas to avoid.
Room Placement Icons: [Smoke Alarm Symbol] indicates recommended placement for smoke alarms. [Carbon Monoxide Alarm Symbol] indicates placement for carbon monoxide alarms. [Fire Extinguisher Symbol] indicates location of fire extinguishers.

Maintenance
To keep your smoke alarm in good working order, follow these simple steps:
- Test the unit once a week to verify alarm sound and indicator function.
- Clean the alarm cover and vents every 3 months using a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and dirt. Remove the unit from the ceiling for cleaning.
- Never use detergents or other solvents to clean the unit.
- Avoid spraying air fresheners, hair spray, or other aerosols near the alarm.
- Do not paint the unit, as paint can seal vents and interfere with the sensor's ability to detect fire.
- Never attempt to disassemble the unit or clean the inside; this will void your warranty.
- When removed, promptly place the smoke alarm back in its proper location to ensure continuous fire protection.
- Ventilate the area if household cleaning supplies or similar contaminants are used.
