Do not allow water to flow into the charger's AC/DC plug.
When to Charge the 24VBAT Lithium-Ion Battery
The 24VBAT lithium-ion battery pack does not develop a "memory" from partial discharge. It is not necessary to run it down before charging.
- Use battery indicator lights to determine when to charge.
- You can "top-off" your battery pack's charge before or after a long day of use.
Charging the Battery
- Push lock buttons on the battery to remove it from the compartment (Fig. 1).
- Ensure mains voltage matches the charger's rating plate. Plug the charger into the wall outlet. The top right green light will illuminate and stay green (Fig. 2).
- Place the battery pack into the charger. The top right green light will turn off, and the top left red light will illuminate, indicating charging (Fig. 3).
- When the charger light turns green, the battery is fully charged (Fig. 3).
A fully discharged pack with normal internal temperature will charge in 1 hr 50 mins (between 32°F/0°C and 113°F/45°C).
5. If indicators do not light up, ensure the battery pack is fully seated. Remove and reinsert. If the problem persists, contact an authorized dealer or All Season Power customer service at 1-866-225-9723.
6. When charging is complete, remove the battery by sliding it backward.
Assembly
WARNING! Do not insert the battery until assembly is complete to prevent accidental starting and injury.
Fitting the Safety Guard
WARNING! The safety guard must be properly installed for protection from thrown objects.
- Remove the battery pack.
- Slide the safety guard tabs into the trimmer head slots and push until it clicks into place (Fig. 4).
- Lay the trimmer on the ground with the head facing upward. Secure the safety guard with the provided screws (Fig. 5).
Never use the tool unless the safety guard is properly installed.
Fitting the Edger Guide + Flower Guard
- Lightly spread the edger guide + flower guard while approaching the motor housing.
- Fit the curved parts into the slot on the motor housing and release (Figs. 7 & 8).
Fitting the Edger Guide Wheel
- Mount the edger guide wheel by sliding it from above and pressing firmly into place (Fig. 6).
Fitting the Auxiliary Handle
- Adjust the auxiliary handle to a comfortable working position (Fig. 9).
- Close the cover and insert the bolt into the opening (Fig. 10).
- Turn the handle knob clockwise to tighten and secure the auxiliary handle (Fig. 11).
Operation
Starting + Stopping
Ensure the trimmer is not contacting any object before starting.
- Slide the battery pack into the compartment until it snaps into position (Fig. 12). IMPORTANT! Ensure the battery pack is secured before operation.
- To turn ON: Press and hold the safety lock button, then squeeze the trigger switch. Release the safety lock button once the machine powers on (Fig. 13).
- To turn OFF: Release the trigger switch. Remove the battery from the compartment (Fig. 13). WARNING! Always remove the battery pack during breaks and after finishing work.
Telescoping Pole Adjustment
- Disconnect the trimmer + edger by removing the battery pack.
- Turn the telescoping locking coupler clockwise to unlock the pole (Fig. 14).
- Adjust the pole to the desired length. Push poles together to shorten, pull apart to lengthen. Only extend to the minimum length needed (Fig. 15).
- Lock the telescoping pole by turning the coupler counter-clockwise (Fig. 14).
Trimming
- Wear non-slip gloves for grip and protection. Hold the trimmer with your right hand on the rear handle and left hand on the auxiliary handle. Position the rear handle at hip height, with the trimmer head parallel to the ground.
- For best cutting action, move slowly, cutting with the tip of the nylon line. Do not force the trimmer, as this reduces efficiency and may overload the motor.
- Avoid dragging the trimmer and spool hub on the ground.
- Trim only when grass and weeds are dry.
- Cut tall grass from top down to prevent wrapping around the head.
- If grass wraps around the string head: Stop the trimmer, remove the battery, remove the grass.
WARNING! Always hold the trimmer away from your body. Contact with the cutting head can cause serious injury.
WARNING! Remove stones, loose pieces of wood, and other objects from the cutting area. The cutting line rotates briefly after switching off; let the motor stop completely before resuming operation.
CAUTION! Always wear eye protection.
- The correct cutting angle is parallel to the ground.
- Slowly swing the trimmer from side to side (Fig. 17).
- Do not overload; take small "bites" of grass from top to bottom for better speed and efficiency (Fig. 18).
Adjusting Multi-Angle Trimming Head
- Press the multi-angle head adjustment button to select one of four positions (0°, 15°, 30°, 45°) (Fig. 19).
- Press the trimmer/edger head locking button, then turn the trimmer head to 90 degrees (Figs. 20 & 21).
- Reinstall the battery. Press the safety lock button and then the trigger.
- Hold the trimmer comfortably with steady arms. Moving your body rather than your arms will result in straighter cuts.
Edging
- To convert from trimming to edging, turn OFF the tool and remove the battery.
- Remove the edger guide + flower guard if it obstructs the cutting line from contacting the soil.
- Move the unit backward when edging around edges to avoid damage.
Advancing Cutting Line
NOTE: The trimmer uses 0.063 in. (1.6 mm) diameter nylon line. Line wear is faster on abrasive surfaces or with heavier weeds.
- Turn off the tool and remove the battery.
- Press the brake button and pull the cutting line until it reaches the length of the safety guard (Fig. 23).
- Continue trimming and edging.
WARNING! Do not trim near electrical wires.
WARNING! Do not operate in a tree, on a ladder, or on a scaffold.
WARNING! Do not bump the unit on the ground to feed line.
Maintenance
WARNING! Remove the battery before inspecting parts.
WARNING! Wear protective gloves during maintenance. Do not perform maintenance when the motor is running or hot.
- Cutting line can dry out; store spare spools or bulk line in a resealable bag with a tablespoon of water.
- Never use water or chemical cleaners; wipe clean with a dry cloth.
- Plastic parts can be cleaned with mild soap and a damp rag.
- Store in a dry place; keep away from liquids.
- Keep motor ventilation slots clean.
IMPORTANT! For safety and reliability, use only identical replacement parts. Contact an authorized dealer or All Season Power customer service at 1-866-225-9723 for assistance.
Replacing the Spool + Clearing Jams and Tangled Lines
WARNING! Remove the battery before changing the cutting line.
WARNING! Never use metal-reinforced line, wire, or rope, as these can break off and become dangerous projectiles.
NOTE: Use 16.4 ft. (5m) single-line replacement spool (model 24V-ST14-SPOOL). Always use recommended nylon cutting line with a diameter no more than 0.063 in. (1.6 mm).
- Press both release tabs on the spool cover and remove it (Figs. 24 & 25).
- Lift and remove the spool from the hub (Fig. 26). Clean out old line, jams, dirt, and grass residue.
- Re-insert the spool or a new pre-wound spool into the hub (Fig. 26).
- Insert each line end through its eyelet on the hub and gently press the spool down (Fig. 27).
- Reinstall the spool cover by depressing release tabs into slots and pushing down until it clicks (Fig. 28).
Winding the Line
NOTE: Self-winding is not recommended as improper winding can cause auto-feed malfunction. Purchase pre-wound spools.
- Turn off and remove the battery. Ensure the spool has stopped.
- Remove the spool from the trimmer hub (refer to previous section).
- Measure and cut a 16.4 ft (5m) piece of new cutting line. Insert the end into the small hole inside the spool (Fig. 29).
- Bend the line 180 degrees around the hole. Wind the line according to the arrows on the spool, using slight tension (Figs. 30 & 31).
- Re-install the spool as instructed in steps 3 to 5 of "Replacing the Spool + Clearing Jams and Tangled Lines".
CAUTION! Catapulted pieces of nylon line may cause injury.
WARNING! Pay attention to the winding direction.
NOTE: Always replace the spool with a new pre-wound spool. Purchase at shopjoe.com.
Storage
- Clean the trimmer + edger thoroughly before storing.
- Store in a stable, safe position out of reach of children, in a dry place with moderate temperature.
- When storing, do not rest against the floor. Hang by the upper handgrip so the guard does not touch anything, to prevent permanent alteration of its shape.
Battery Caution + Disposal
- Dispose of battery pack according to federal, state, and local regulations. Contact a recycling agency.
- CAUTION! Even discharged batteries contain energy. Cover terminals with electrical tape before disposal to prevent shorting.
- WARNING! Never burn or incinerate battery packs; toxic fumes and materials are emitted.
- Install only new batteries of the same type.
- Do not mix old and new batteries.
- Do not mix different battery chemistries (Alkaline, Carbon-Zinc, NiCad, NiMH, Lithium-Ion).
- Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
- Batteries should be recycled or disposed of according to guidelines.
