YAESU ROTATOR CALIBRATION
This document provides calibration instructions for Yaesu Rotator Control Systems, specifically covering models G-450A, G-800, G-1000, G-2800DXA/SA/SDX/S, and G-5500/550.
Azimuth Calibration (G-450A, G-800, G-1000, G-2800DXA/SA/SDX/S)
- Set the SELECT SWITCH on the back of the Control Box to ADJ MODE.
- Rotate CCW until rotator stops.
- The needle should be at 0°. If not, manually place the needle on 0°. For the G-450A, unscrew the needle in the center and manually move it to 0°. Screw the needle back on.
- Rotate CW until Rotator stops. The meter should read 90° and the Overlap light should be on. If the meter is not reading 90°, use the Full Scale Adjust Pot to set the needle to indicate 90°.
- Rotate fully CCW. The needle should now be on 0°.
- For South orientation, remove the needle and reinstall it pointing to 180°.
- Orientate Antenna North or South depending on preference.
Diagram Description: Controller Rear Panel (G-800/1000/2800DXA/SA/G-450A): The rear panel of the controller features a SELECT SWITCH with positions for OPERATION, ADJ. MODE, FULL SCALE ADJ, and OVERLAP LED ADJ. It also includes ports labeled 'ROTOR CONTROL INTERCONNECTION JACK' and a FUSE HOLDER. A note advises using a fuse of the same type and current rating when replacing fuses.
Preset Calibration (DXA SERIES)
1. Prepare for Preset Calibration
Ensure the SELECT SWITCH is set to ADJ. MODE.
Diagram Description: Select Switch and Preset Dial: The SELECT SWITCH is depicted in the ADJ. MODE position. The PRESET dial is a circular indicator with markings from 0 to 360 degrees. The calibration process involves adjusting two points, labeled A and B, using adjustment potentiometers.
2. Adjusting
Follow these steps:
- Step 1: Remove the Preset Dial and position the shaft as shown.
- Step 2: Replace the Preset Dial as shown.
- Step 3: Position A & B as shown.
Adjustment Procedure:
- Set the Preset fully CCW and adjust Preset Adjust A to show 0/180 on the dial.
- Set the Preset fully CW and adjust Preset Adjust B to show 90/270 on the dial.
Note: For SDX models, B = CCW and A = CW.
Azimuth and Elevation Calibration (G-5500/550)
Azimuth Calibration
- Press and Hold the Left switch until the rotator stops. The needle should be at 0°. If not, manually place the needle on 0° using the Needle Adjustment screw under the Azimuth Meter.
- Press and Hold the Right Switch until the rotator stops. The needle should point near or on +90°. If it does not, use the FULL ADJ to adjust the needle to 90°.
- Press and Hold Left until the rotator stops. The needle should now be on 0°.
- Orientate Antenna North.
Elevation Calibration
- Press DOWN until the Rotator Stops. The needle should read 0°. If not, manually place the needle on 0° using the Needle Adjustment screw under the Azimuth Meter.
- Press UP until Rotator Stops. The meter should read 180°, if not, adjust the Elevation Full Scale Adjustment on the back of the Control Box as needed so the meter reads 180°.
- Press DOWN until the Rotator Stops. The needle should read 0°.
- Orient antenna to the horizon.
