4. USE OF THE MACHINE
4.1. Prerequisites
- The electric connection must be 230 V - 16 A - 50 or 60 Hz with a 3 x 2.5 mm² cable reel of 40m maximum, completely unreeled.
Thermal Protection
The machine is equipped with a thermal protection that stops the motor in the event of overheating. If this happens, stop the machine (button (A) on the housing), turn the valve (G) to the vertical position (priming), and disconnect the mains plug. Let the machine cool down for at least 30 minutes. Eliminate the cause of the overheating (poor room ventilation, blocked air intake slots, etc.).
Tools Required for Use
- A mallet.
- An empty receptacle.
- A large piece of cardboard.
- Masking kit (protective film + adhesive).
4.2. Preparing the Work Area
When spraying paint, a mist may form. Use masking material to cover all areas and objects to be protected from the paint, or remove them from the spraying area if possible (door and window frames, furniture, objects, electrical sockets, and switches, etc.).
Any penetration of the sprayed product into an electrical socket or switch could lead to an electric shock which could cause serious injury and/or damage.
If a product containing silica is used, ensure that glass or ceramic surfaces that could be damaged by such a product are properly masked.
Avoid using masking tape that is too strong on sensitive areas (wallpaper, painted surfaces) to avoid damaging them when the tape is removed.
4.3. Preparing the Machine
Assembly
- Screw the hose onto the high-pressure filter support (F) using the supplied spanners.
- Screw the other end of the hose onto the spray gun connector.
- Fit the tip gasket (S) and tip seat (T) into the tip support, then screw the tip support onto the spray gun and screw it in as far as it will go to secure it.
Controls
- The on/off switch (A) is located on the machine housing.
- The 2-position valve (G) is located near the high-pressure filter:
- Vertical position (priming): Preliminary filling of the paint circuit.
- Horizontal position (spraying): Pressure release. Spraying onto the surface to be painted.
- The control panel (B), located on the housing, is used to adjust the spraying pressure according to the product and the work to be carried out (buttons - and +) and to start the motor for pumping (OK button).
Spray Gun
The trigger must always be locked when the gun is not in use or for any manipulation on the gun (tip change, repair, etc.).
- To lock or unlock the spray gun trigger, press the locking pin (M) (trigger released).
- The tip must be inserted with the point facing forward.
- Replacement of the filter in the gun grip:
- Release the trigger protection.
- Unscrew the product inlet connector and pull the grip downwards to release the filter and remove it.
- Install the new filter in its place, pierced side up.
- Refit the handle in reverse order.
The filter must be replaced without any pressure in the gun. Carry out a pressure relief (see next page) before this operation.
Depending on the product to be sprayed, it may be necessary to change the size of the tip and/or the grip filter.
Pressure Relief
It is essential to release the pressure from the hose and gun when the machine is switched off (for any reason). This procedure avoids the risk of injury when resuming work.
- Lock the gun trigger.
- Switch off the machine (button (A) in position 0).
- Turn valve (G) to vertical position.
- Unlock the trigger, place the gun over an empty container, then press the trigger to release the pressure.
- When all the pressure has been released, lock the trigger again.
4.4. Preparing the Product to be Sprayed
- To ensure optimum atomisation of the product, it is important to dilute it if necessary in accordance with the manufacturer's dilution recommendations (refer to the technical data sheet for the product to be sprayed).
- Mix the product (by hand or using a portable mixer) and dilute it directly into the bucket.
Dilution Recommendations
Products | Dilution |
---|---|
Water-based or solvent-based paints | from 5 to 10% |
Wall paints (water-based or solvent-based) | from 0 to 10% |
Varnishes | none |
Wood protection products, oils, stripping products, disinfectants, phytosanitary products | none |
The values given in the table above are for guidance only. Dilution must comply with the recommendations on the product packaging and can be adjusted by carrying out spray tests (see Spraying technique section).
4.5. Starting Up
When using the machine for the first time, start it up with water to check that it is working properly and to remove any impurities.
- Lubricate the pump using the burette supplied (through the slot (I)).
- Disconnect the return hose (D) from the suction rod (C) (S version only).
- Place the return hose (D) in an empty bucket and the suction rod in the bucket of product to be sprayed (or water for the first use).
- Plug the machine into the mains.
Before connecting the machine to the mains, check that the voltage is suitable for the machine's needs.
- Turn the valve (G) to the vertical position (priming).
- Set switch (A) to position I to switch on the machine.
- Adjust the pressure using the - and + buttons, press OK button, suction will start.
- As soon as the product flows into the empty container through the return hose, stop the machine (OK button).
- Attach the return hose to the suction rod (S version only).
- Turn the valve (G) to the horizontal position (spraying).
- Point the spray gun at a piece of cardboard and start the machine (OK button).
- Unlock the spray gun and press the trigger to spray the cardboard until the product comes out evenly.
- Release the trigger and lock the gun.
- When the red light on the control panel is on, the machine is ready to work.
4.6. Spraying Technique
Make sure that the hose is not pinched or bent and that it is not in contact with objects with sharp edges that could damage it.
It is advisable to carry out test sprays on a piece of cardboard to obtain the optimum spray pattern and to familiarise yourself with the use of the gun.
During use, it is normal for the pump to stop and restart. This is a matter of pressure regulation and not a malfunction of the machine.
If the product dilution and pressure setting are correct, the paint jet will be regular.
If the paint jet shows irregularities or spray cords:
- Increase the pressure gradually.
- Dilute the product further (in 5% increments, without ever exceeding the dilution limit recommended by the product manufacturer).
- Reduce the tip size.
To achieve optimal results, the surface must be covered as evenly as possible, using the right gestures:
- The arm must move at a regular speed, without interruption, and the distance between the gun and the surface to be painted must be constant (25 to 30 cm).
- Press the trigger only after starting the gun movement and release it before ending the movement.
- To obtain an even coverage, overlap the strokes by approximately 30%.
- Move your whole arm, not just your wrist, to limit irregularities.
- The spray gun should be perpendicular to the surface to be painted to avoid differences in the thickness of the paint layer.
Illustration showing the correct spraying technique with multiple spray guns. It depicts parallel strokes with a 30% overlap and a consistent distance of 25-30 cm from the surface.
Illustration showing the correct arm movement for spraying, emphasizing moving the whole arm rather than just the wrist, and maintaining a perpendicular angle to the surface.
4.7. Unclogging the Tip
If, during spraying, the paint jet becomes distorted or stops completely, the tip may be blocked. In this case, proceed as described below.
Never try to unclog the tip with your fingers. The pressurised product can cause serious injection injuries.
- Lock the gun trigger.
- Turn the tip 180° in the tip support (with the tip pointing towards the back of the gun).
- Place valve (G) in horizontal position.
- Unlock the gun and press the trigger (gun pointing towards a cardboard box). The pressure in the hose will remove the obstruction.
- When the tip is unclogged, the paint jet becomes straight and regular again. Release the trigger and lock the gun.
- Turn the tip back to its original position (pointing forward) and resume spraying as normal.
4.8. Stopping Work
Carry out a pressure relief (see 4.3.) after stopping the machine and before carrying out any work on it.
- Stop the machine (switch (A)), then disconnect the power cord (E).
- Place the gun in a plastic bag and seal the bag.
- Use a little water to lightly dampen the surface of the paint in the bucket. This prevents a layer of dried paint forming.
5. MAINTENANCE
5.1. Cleaning Procedure
The machine must be cleaned immediately after each use to ensure optimum performance. Dried paint residues can cause malfunctions.
Never use a combustible product for cleaning.
- Carry out the pressure relief procedure (see 4.3.).
- Lock the gun trigger.
- Remove the tip holder.
- Place the suction tube and return hose in a bucket of water (or a solution suitable for cleaning the product).
- Turn the valve (G) to the horizontal position, then set the pressure to maximum on the control panel.
- Point the gun at an empty container.
If rinsing with a solvent, use a metal container placed on the floor and maintain contact between the gun and the container.
- Unlock the gun and press the trigger until the water (or solvent) comes out clean from the gun.
- Stop the machine and disconnect the power cable.
- Turn the valve (G) to the vertical position.
- Pull the trigger to release the pressure, then lock the gun.
- Remove the gun from the hose using the supplied spanners.
- Dismantle the connector (N) and remove the grip filter.
- Clean the grip filter using a soft brush and a suitable product.
- Refit the clean filter (pierced side up) and refit the gun grip.
- Clean the tip holder, seal, seat, and tip.
- Replace the gasket and seat in the tip holder and refit it to the gun.
- Pinch the hook to remove the suction pipe (C) and clean it with a cloth.
- Also clean the return hose (D) with a cloth.
- Remove the hose from the connector (F) using the supplied spanners.
- Pour approximately 60 ml of cleaning and storage liquid into the bucket of water (respecting the dilution indicated on the bottle), then plug in the power cord.
- Switch on the machine and run it for a few seconds so that the oil flows into the circuit and preserves it until the next time it is used (place a cloth over the connector (F) to prevent the oil dripping onto the floor).
