Paradox IP180 Internet Module Installation Manual
Version: V1.00.005
Introduction
Thank you for choosing Paradox Security Systems products. The following manual describes the connections and programming for the IP180 Internet Module. For comments or suggestions, email manualsfeedback@paradox.com.
The IP180 Internet Module provides access to Paradox systems and replaces the previous IP150 reporting devices. It features built-in Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Antenna kit sold separately). The IP180 reports exclusively to the IPC10 Paradox receiver/converter, BabyWare, and communicates with the BlueEye application. It utilizes an encrypted, supervised connection with the IPC10 PC and BlueEye, based on MQTT technology for stability, speed, and reliability. The IP180 is remotely upgradable from InField and the BlueEye application. It supports all Paradox + panels and most Paradox panels produced after 2012.
Important Information
While the IP180 programming is similar to the IP150, note the following differences:
- The IP180 does not support "Combo" mode or serial output. Systems with a combo connection require a panel upgrade to '+' with two serial outputs to use the IP180.
- The IP180 cannot support local closed networks. Paradox will offer future solutions for closed networks.
- Static IP can be configured in the BlueEye installer menu for BlueEye, but BlueEye does not support static IP connection. The IP180 requires an internet connection.
- The IP180 reports in Contact ID format only to the IPC10. Ensure the panel is set to Contact ID reporting. From the IPC10, it reports to CMS MLR2-DG or Ademco 685.
- The IP180 supports and supervises up to three IPC10 reporting receivers, with support for up to four receivers planned. The IP150+ Future MQTT version supports only two receivers.
- When the IP180 is connected, only the BlueEye application will connect; Insite Gold will not connect to the IP180.
- When connecting to a Paradox panel with two serial outputs, connect the IP180 to Serial-1 (main channel) and PCS265 V8 (MQTT version) to Serial-2. Another IP180 can also be connected to Serial-2. Do not mix MQTT reporting devices and previous Turn reporting devices on the same panel.
If you replaced an IP150 with an IP180 and wish to revert, refer to "Reverting to Classic" on page 8.
Note: Ensure the reporting format is set to CID. The IPC10 can only receive CONTACT ID format.
Before You Begin
To configure your IP180 Internet Module, you will need:
- A 4-pin serial cable (included).
- An Ethernet network connection or, for Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi network credentials and the Wi-Fi antenna kit.

Installation
IP180 Mounting
The IP180 should be installed within the panel metal box enclosure for tamper protection. Clip the IP180 to the top of the metal box.
Serial Connection to the Panel
Connect the serial output of the IP180 to the Serial port of the Paradox panels. For Paradox + Series panels, connect to Serial1 as it is the main reporting channel. If the panel is powered up, the on-board LEDs will illuminate to indicate the IP180's status.
Ethernet Connection
If using an Ethernet cable, connect it to an active Ethernet socket and the left side of the IP180. If also using Wi-Fi, it can be configured via the BlueEye application once the Ethernet connection is established and internet is available.
Wi-Fi Connection
The Antenna kit is sold separately. To use Wi-Fi, drill a 1/4" hole on the top or side of the metal box. Pass the antenna extension wire through the hole and secure the socket to the metal box. Attach the Wi-Fi antenna to the plug and connect the other side of the cable to the IP180 using the "push and click" mechanism. The Wi-Fi antenna should be installed on the outside of the metal box. To register into the Wi-Fi network without Ethernet, open the BlueEye application.
Diagrams show the IP180 clipped into a metal box and a close-up of the Wi-Fi antenna connection.
Attaching the IP180 to the Panel
Connect the IP180 using the serial cable to the panel. After a few seconds, the RX/TX LED will flash, indicating the IP180 is powered and communicating with the panel.
