Caution for AC Mains Lead

(For Saudi Arabia and Kuwait) ("GS" area code model only)

For your safety, read the following text carefully. This appliance is supplied with a moulded three-pin mains plug for safety and convenience. A 5-ampere fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need replacement, ensure the replacement fuse has a rating of 5-ampere and is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Check for the [ASTA mark] or [BSI mark] on the fuse body.

If the plug has a removable fuse cover, ensure it is refitted when the fuse is replaced. If the fuse cover is lost, the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained. A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local dealer.

[CAUTION!] If the fitted moulded plug is unsuitable for your home socket outlet, the fuse should be removed and the plug cut off and disposed of safely. There is a danger of severe electrical shock if the cut-off plug is inserted into any 13-ampere socket.

If a new plug is to be fitted, observe the wiring code below. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.

IMPORTANT: The wires in this mains lead are coloured as follows: Blue: Neutral, Brown: Live. If these colours do not correspond with the coloured markings in your plug, proceed as follows:

[WARNING:] DO NOT CONNECT EITHER WIRE TO THE EARTH TERMINAL MARKED WITH THE LETTER 'E', BY THE [earth symbol], OR COLOURED GREEN OR GREEN/YELLOW.

THIS PLUG IS NOT WATERPROOF – KEEP DRY.

Before use: Remove the connector cover.

How to replace the fuse:

The fuse location differs by AC mains plug type (see figures A and B). Confirm your plug type and follow the instructions. Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plugs.

  1. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.
  2. Replace the fuse and close or attach the fuse cover.

Table of Contents

This section provides a detailed breakdown of the manual's content, covering setup, operations, functions, troubleshooting, and specifications.

Simple Setup

STEP 1: Speaker Assembly

The supplied stands are designed for Panasonic SB-FS930 front speakers or SB-FS880 surround speakers.

Preparation:

Components:

Assembly Steps:

  1. Assemble the speaker stands: Thread the speaker cable through the base. Leave excess cable for later connection.
  2. Attach the stands to the speakers: Ensure the stand is fastened straight by gradually tightening top and bottom screws alternately. The height can be adjusted by attaching the stand to the upper or lower rear of the speaker.
  3. Connect the speaker cables: Twist off the vinyl ends of the speaker cables. Connect positive ([copper]) to positive terminals and negative ([silver]) to negative terminals. Press the speaker cable into the groove. If excess cable exists, thread it into the pipe opening.
  4. Secure the speaker cables to the bases: Press the speaker cable into the base cover groove as far as possible.

[Diagrams illustrating speaker stand assembly, cable routing, and connection to the speaker base.]

Preventing speakers from falling over:

Attach screw eyes (not included) to secure speakers to the wall. Use appropriate screw eyes for your walls/pillars. Consult a qualified contractor for concrete walls or surfaces needing strong support. Improper attachment may damage the wall or speakers.

  1. Thread string (not included) through the slot on the rear of the speaker.
  2. Loop the string through the screw eye and tie tightly.

[Diagram showing string threaded through speaker and secured to a wall screw eye.]

Other speaker setup options

Attaching to a wall:

You can attach all speakers to a wall.

  1. Drive a screw (not included) into the wall.
  2. Fit the speaker securely onto the screw(s) with the hole(s).

The wall/pillar should support 10 kg per screw. Consult a qualified building contractor. Improper attachment may result in damage.

For front/surround speakers, use string (not included) to prevent falling. Optional speaker cables are recommended for wall-mounted speakers.

[Diagrams showing wall mounting procedures for center speakers and front/surround speakers.]

Fitting speaker stands (not included):

(Center speaker only)

Ensure stands support over 10 kg and are stable. Note screw diameter, length, and distance as shown in the diagram.

[Diagram showing screw hole placement and dimensions for attaching stands to the center speaker.]

STEP 2: Positioning

Proper speaker placement affects bass and sound field. Follow these points:

[Diagram showing ideal speaker placement for front (1), surround (2), center (3), and active subwoofer (4) relative to the main unit and seating position.]

Place front, center, and surround speakers at approximately the same distance from the seating position. Angles in the diagram are approximate.

Note: Do not use a front speaker as a surround speaker or vice versa. Verify speaker type with the label on the rear of the speaker.

Use only supplied speakers: Using other speakers can damage the unit and affect sound quality.

Main unit: Keep speakers at least 10 mm away from the system for ventilation.

Center speaker: Vibration can disrupt the TV picture if placed directly on the television. Place it on a rack or shelf. Do not place directly on top of the television to prevent falling.

Active subwoofer: Place to the right or left of the television, on the floor or a sturdy shelf. Leave 10 cm at the rear for ventilation.

Caution: Do not stand on the base and shake the speaker. Be cautious when children are near.

Notes on speaker use: Playing sound at high levels for extended periods can damage speakers and shorten their useful life. Reduce volume when playing distorted sound, when speakers reverberate, when adjusting sound quality, or when turning the unit on/off.

If irregular coloring occurs on your television: The picture may be affected with some televisions and setup combinations. Turn the television off for about 30 minutes to allow its demagnetizing function to correct the problem. If it persists, move speakers farther from the television.

Caution: Use the active subwoofer and supplied speakers only as indicated. Failure to do so may lead to amplifier/speaker damage or fire risk. Consult a qualified service person for any damage or performance changes. Do not use methods other than those described for wall mounting.

STEP 3: Connecting Speakers with the Subwoofer

Attach speaker-cable stickers for easier connection. The subwoofer terminals have high output power; connect speaker wires carefully.

[Diagram showing speaker cable connections from the main unit to the subwoofer and front/surround speakers, with labels for each connection point and color-coded wires.]

Note: Never short-circuit positive ([copper]) and negative ([silver]) speaker wires. Connect positive wires to positive terminals and negative wires to negative terminals. Incorrect connection can damage speakers.

STEP 4: Video Connections

Do not connect through a video cassette recorder due to potential copy guard protection issues.

Turn the television off before connecting. Refer to the television's operating instructions.

Television with a VIDEO IN terminal

[Diagram showing connection from the main unit's VIDEO OUT to the TV's VIDEO IN using a video cable.]

Television with an S-VIDEO IN terminal

The S-VIDEO OUT terminal provides a more vivid picture than VIDEO OUT by separating chrominance (C) and luminance (Y) signals.

[Diagram showing connection from the main unit's S-VIDEO OUT to the TV's S-VIDEO IN using an S-video cable.]

Television with COMPONENT VIDEO IN terminals

COMPONENT VIDEO OUT terminals provide a purer picture than S-VIDEO OUT by outputting color difference (PB/PR) and luminance (Y) signals separately.

[Diagram showing connection from the main unit's COMPONENT VIDEO OUT to the TV's COMPONENT VIDEO IN using component video cables.]

To enjoy progressive video: Connect to component video input terminals on a 480p (or 525p) or 576p (or 625p) compatible television. Video will not display correctly on incompatible televisions.

STEP 5: Radio and System Connections

Connect the AC mains lead after all other connections are complete. Optional antenna connections are on page 25.

Antenna Connections:

[Diagrams showing connections for AM loop antenna, FM indoor antenna, and FM outdoor antenna.]

Connecting the AC Mains Lead:

Set the voltage: Use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the voltage selector on the subwoofer to the appropriate position for your area (e.g., 115V/120V use 110V/127V settings).

[Diagram showing the VOLT ADJ selector on the subwoofer.]

Note: Read the caution for the AC mains lead on page 3 before connection. The included AC mains lead is for this unit only.

Conserving power: The main unit consumes about 0.9W when off. Unplug from the mains socket if not used for a long time. Memory items may need resetting after plugging in.

STEP 6: The Remote Control

Aim the remote control at the unit's signal sensor, avoiding obstacles, within a maximum range of 7 meters.

Battery Installation: Insert batteries, matching poles (+ and -). Do not mix old/new batteries, use different types, heat, short-circuit, recharge alkaline/manganese batteries, or use batteries with peeled covering.
