Diving
You can use a compatible Descent dive computer paired with a Descent T2 transmitter and the Descent S1 buoy to start a dive activity. During the dive, surface users can send and receive messages with divers, view their approximate location, and monitor their depth and tank pressure. Underwater divers can send messages to the surface and navigate back to the buoy using the location data displayed on the dive computers. At the end of the dive, divers can sync their dive computers with the buoy to view underwater thermal maps in the Garmin Dive app. Refer to the Descent dive computer owner’s manual for more information.
Dive Warnings
CAUTION
Do not exceed the maximum operating depth for diving activity of the device (Specifications, page 11).
Ensure you fully understand the use, displays, and limitations of your device. If you have questions about this manual or the device, always resolve any discrepancies or questions before diving with the device. Always remember that you are responsible for your own safety.
When properly configured and connected to a compatible device, this device can track the estimated tank pressure of a connected diver. This device is for informational purposes only and should not be considered the sole source of information.
Perform pre-dive safety checks, such as proper device function and settings, display function, battery level, tank pressure, and bubble checks to prevent leaks in hoses and connections.
For safety reasons, you should never dive alone. Dive with a buddy, even if your dive is being monitored from the surface. You should also remain in the presence of other people for a prolonged period after a dive, as the possible onset of decompression sickness (DCS) may be delayed or triggered by surface activities.
This device is not intended for commercial or professional diving activities. It is for recreational purposes only. Commercial or professional diving activities may expose the user to extreme depths or conditions that increase the risk of DCS.
Dive Care
CAUTION
Dive and navigation messages require a line of sight between two compatible receivers with the latest compatible software versions. Obstructions and other environmental factors can affect receiver connectivity and may delay or prevent message sending and receiving. With good connectivity, data can be sent successfully between divers in less than 20 seconds. If connectivity is weak, devices will attempt to send data for up to two minutes. This is a supplementary feature that should not be relied upon as a method for receiving emergency assistance and should not replace traditional dive safety tools and procedures.
To send messages and/or track the location of compatible devices, this device must be connected to a compatible mobile device using the device’s Wi-Fi connection and the Garmin Dive app. The connectivity range of the device’s Wi-Fi connection varies depending on the make and model of the mobile device used. This device should not be considered a method for receiving emergency assistance and should not replace traditional dive safety tools and procedures.
Surface conditions can affect the function and connectivity of the device. Certain objects, including, but not limited to, boat hulls, floating platforms, reefs, or seaweed, can block the device’s signal and cause delays or failures in data transmission.
You should not rely solely on the buoy for underwater navigation. The navigate-to-buoy feature requires the buoy to be in line of sight. Buoy location and distance information are not precise, and should be used as a supplement, not a substitute, for diver navigation, search, and positioning training.
This device is not personal flotation equipment and does not support the weight of a person or any dive equipment. Using this device in such a manner may result in personal injury and/or loss or damage to property.
The range and availability of device messaging and/or location tracking depend on the type of compatible devices with which this communication is made (See “Feature and Dive Product Compatibility”, page 12).
NOTICE
For best results, ensure this device is connected to a surface line, surface marker buoy, or anchor line that is not obstructed by the boat hull and allows a clear line of sight to compatible devices.
If you are towing the device, ensure it is attached to a suitable marker buoy and surface marker buoy so it is visible to vessels. A flag should not be attached directly to the buoy.
Submerging the device for extended periods may degrade device performance and/or damage it.
