Safety Remarks
General Information
- Avoid using the camera near strong magnetic, electrostatic, or electromagnetic fields (e.g., induction ovens, microwaves, TVs, computers, game consoles, cell phones) as they can interfere with recordings.
- Image recording may be affected if the camera is placed on or near a television or cell phone.
- Strong magnetic fields can damage stored picture data or disrupt recording.
- In case of malfunction due to electromagnetic fields, switch off the camera, remove the battery, and restart.
- Do not use the camera near radio transmitters or high-voltage power lines.
- Store small parts, like the accessory shoe cover, out of reach of children and in a safe location.
- Electronic components are sensitive to static discharge. Avoid direct contact with external camera contacts.
- Do not soil or scratch the lens bayonet. Clean only with a dry cloth.
- Use cotton or linen cloths for cleaning contacts and discharge static electricity by touching a grounded object. Store the camera in a dry location with caps attached.
- Use only specified accessories to prevent faults or electric shock.
- Do not attempt to remove housing parts yourself; repairs must be done by authorized service centers.
- Protect the camera from insect sprays and aggressive chemicals; petroleum spirit, thinner, and alcohol can damage the housing.
- Avoid prolonged contact with rubber and plastics, as they can expel aggressive chemicals.
- Prevent sand, dust, or water penetration, especially when changing lenses, memory cards, or batteries. Moisture can cause malfunctions and irreparable damage.
Lens
- A camera lens can act as a magnifying glass when exposed to direct sunlight. Protect the camera from prolonged direct sunlight by using the lens cap and keeping it in the shade or its case.
Rechargeable Battery
- Improper use or unapproved battery types may result in an explosion.
- Do not expose the battery to sunlight, heat, humidity, or moisture for prolonged periods. Do not place batteries in microwave ovens or high-pressure containers.
- Never charge or insert a damp or wet battery.
- Dispose of bloated batteries immediately as they may pose an explosion hazard.
- Keep battery contacts clean and protected from metal objects to prevent short circuits, which can cause severe burns.
- Check for damage immediately if a battery is dropped. A damaged battery can damage the camera.
- Remove and replace the battery immediately if it emits a strange smell, discolors, deforms, overheats, or leaks, as continued use can cause fire or explosion.
- Never throw batteries into a fire.
- Keep batteries away from heat sources in case of leaks.
- Use only Leica-approved chargers to avoid damage or injury.
- Ensure the power socket is accessible.
- Do not attempt to open batteries or chargers; repairs must be done by authorized service centers.
- Keep batteries out of reach of children; they can cause suffocation if swallowed.
Charger
- Keep the charger at least 1m (3ft) away from broadcasting receivers to avoid interference.
- A buzzing sound during charger operation is normal.
- Disconnect the charger from the mains when not in use.
- Keep charger contacts clean and never short circuit them.
Memory Card
- Never remove the memory card during data saving or reading. Do not switch off the camera or subject it to impact/vibrations while it is working.
- Do not open the compartment or remove the card/battery while the status LED is flashing, as this can destroy data or cause malfunctions.
- Do not drop or bend memory cards; this can cause damage and data loss.
- Keep memory card connections clean and dry.
- Keep memory cards out of reach of children; swallowing them can cause suffocation.
Sensor
- Cosmic radiation (e.g., during flights) may cause pixel defects.
Carry Strap
- Ensure carry strap clips are mounted correctly to prevent the camera from falling.
- Keep carry straps out of reach of children; they are not toys and pose a strangulation risk.
- Use carry straps only for their intended purpose on cameras or binoculars.
- Avoid using carry straps during sports activities with a high risk of entanglement (e.g., mountain climbing).
