Installation
Gate Placement
When the gate is unpacked, you may notice a gap at the door opening. This is normal with pressure mounted gates, and the gap will disappear when it is installed correctly.
Diagram shows a safety gate with orange circles highlighting gaps at the top and bottom of the frame where it meets the wall/doorway.
Structural Soundness & Measurement
Gate must be installed in a structurally sound opening. Ensure mounting surface (e.g., wall, door frame, stair way) is strong, rigid, and has an even surface. Measure the space to be enclosed.
Gate extensions are available through the Perma Child Safety website. You can scan a QR code (now excluded) to try their Gate Extension Calculator.

Note: Only use one extension on each side of the gate.
Inside Opening or Doorway Installation
Step 1: Prepare Adjusters
Screw Adjuster Bolts and Adjuster Screws together, then place into mounting holes in each corner of the gate.
Diagram shows an adjuster bolt being screwed into an adjuster screw, and then the assembled unit being inserted into a mounting hole on the gate frame.
Step 2: Position Gate and Mark
Place the gate in the desired opening. Ensure the bottom rail is completely flat on the floor. Align the Mounting Cups directly above each other on the wall, then mark the position of each Mounting Cup with a pencil.
Diagram shows the gate placed in an opening. One image shows the bottom rail flat on the floor. The other shows mounting cups aligned above each other on the wall, with a pencil marking the position.
Step 3: Attach Mounting Cups
Stick the Mounting Cup in position with the Adhesive Pads and then place the gate into position.
For added security, fix each cup to the wall using a small Phillips head screwdriver and the Screws provided.
Diagram shows a mounting cup being attached to the wall with an adhesive pad, and then another image showing the cup being screwed into the wall with a Phillips head screwdriver.
Note: This gate must only be fixed to a solid and secure surface. If unsure, check with a qualified builder or trades person that the installation you intend is suitable and safe in the chosen location.
Step 4: Tighten Adjusters
Align the gate with the Mounting Cups and tighten the Adjuster Screws by turning clockwise, starting with the bottom Adjuster Screws then moving to the top. Tighten equally until there is only a 1.5mm (0.5") gap in the locking mechanism. Regularly check tension of all Adjuster Bolts and tighten if necessary.
Diagram shows the gate frame with adjuster screws and bolts. Arrows indicate tightening clockwise. One inset shows a close-up of the locking mechanism with a gap measurement of "MAX 1.5mm". Another inset shows the adjuster screw mechanism with a maximum adjustment range.
Step 5: Set Swing Direction
Determine which direction the gate should open. Screw in the Swing Direction Control piece opposite to the desired opening direction. Use the images below as a guide.
Three small diagrams showing how to attach the "Swing Direction Control" piece to control the gate's opening direction: Left Side Opening, Both Side Opening, Right Side Opening.
Note: For top of stairways, the gate should never open out over stairs.
Operation
How to Open
- Using one hand, place thumb on the button and grip Gate Panel with fingers.
- Slide button and lift Gate Panel.
- Open gate in either direction. When released, the gate will swing closed automatically.
Diagrams illustrate the three steps for opening the gate.
Stay Open Feature
To enable the stay open feature, open the gate to a 90° angle. The gate will not swing closed once locked in its groove.
Diagram shows the gate opened to a 90° angle, with an arrow indicating it locks in place.
Note: Always check the gate is properly closed and secure at all times.
