You must have appropriate technical training and experience to understand the hazards to which you may be exposed when performing a task, and to take appropriate measures to minimize risks to yourself and others.
General Safety Guidelines
Read these safety guidelines carefully.
▲ WARNING! The information provided by the printer status light is for functional information purposes only and is not related to any safety clause or condition. When using the printer, its warning labels should always be considered, and they take precedence over the status indicated by the printer status light.
Turn off the printer using the secondary circuit breakers located on the installation PDU and contact the service representative if any of the following situations occur:
- The power cord is damaged.
- The drying and curing cabinets are damaged.
- The printer has been damaged due to an impact.
- Liquid has spilled inside the printer.
- There is smoke or an unusual smell coming from the printer.
- The residual current circuit breaker (ground fault circuit interrupter) of the printer has tripped several times in a row.
- The fuses have blown.
- The printer is not functioning correctly.
- There is any type of mechanical or cabinet damage.
Turn off the printer using the secondary circuit breakers in the following cases:
- During a thunderstorm
- During a power outage
Take special care with areas marked with a warning label.
Risk of electric shock
According to standard RCCB guidelines, annual testing of the RCCB is recommended. These are the procedures:
▲ WARNING! Internal circuits and drying and curing modules operate at dangerous voltages, which can cause death or serious injury.
Turn off the printer using the secondary circuit breakers located on the installation PDU before performing printer maintenance. The printer must be connected only to grounded outlets.
To avoid the risk of electric shock:
- Do not attempt to disassemble the drying and curing modules or the electronic cabinet during hardware maintenance tasks. In this case, follow the instructions strictly.
- Do not remove or open closed system covers or plugs.
- Do not insert objects into the printer compartments.
- Test the RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) functionality annually (see procedure below).
NOTE: A blown fuse may indicate incorrect operation of the electrical circuits within the system. Contact the service representative; do not attempt to replace the fuse yourself.
- Turn off the integrated computer using the internal print server's Shut Down button. Do not turn off the printer from the main switch or secondary circuit breakers.
- CAUTION: The shutdown process may take time to complete. Wait until the green Power Activated light turns off before proceeding.
- When the computer is turned off, test if the RCCB is functioning correctly by pressing the test button.
- If the RCCB does not trip when the test button is pressed, it means the component is defective. The RCCB must be replaced for safety reasons; call your service representative to remove and replace the RCCB.
- If the RCCB trips, it means it is functioning correctly. Reset the RCCB to its normal state.
Risk of burns
The printer's drying and curing subsystems operate at high temperatures and, if touched, can cause burns. The supports, beam, and LED array compartments can reach high temperatures.
To avoid the risk of burns, take the following precautions:
- Do not touch the internal compartments of the printer's drying and curing modules.
- Exercise special care when accessing the substrate path.
- Take special care with areas marked with a warning label.
- Do not place objects covering the supports, beam, and LED array compartments.
- Do not attempt to modify the supports, beam, and LED array compartments.
- Remember to let the printer cool down before performing any maintenance operations.
Risk of fire
The printer's drying and curing subsystems operate at high temperatures. Call your service representative if the residual current circuit breaker (ground fault circuit interrupter) trips several times in a row.
To avoid the risk of fire, take the following precautions:
- Use the voltage of the power supply specified on the nameplate.
- Connect the power cords to dedicated lines, each protected by a secondary line circuit breaker, as described in the site preparation guide.
- Do not insert objects into the printer compartments.
- Do not spill liquids into the printer. After cleaning, make sure all components are dry before using the printer again.
- Do not use aerosol products containing flammable gases in or around the printer. Do not use the printer in a potentially explosive atmosphere.
- Do not block or cover the printer openings.
- Do not attempt to modify the drying or curing module, or the electronic cabinet.
- Ensure that the substrate operating temperature does not exceed the temperature recommended by the manufacturer. If this information is not available, ask the manufacturer.
- Do not load substrates that cannot be used at an operating temperature above 125 °C.
- Do not load substrates with autoignition temperatures below 250 °C. See the note below.
- There are no ignition sources near the substrate.
NOTE: Test method based on EN ISO 6942:2002; Evaluation of materials and assemblies of materials when exposed to a radiant heat source, method B. Test conditions to determine the temperature at which the substrate ignites (flames or glows) are: Heat flux density: 30 kW/m², copper calorimeter, type k thermocouple.
Proper maintenance and genuine HP products are necessary to ensure the printer operates safely. The use of non-HP products (foams, filters, printhead cleaning rollers, and inks) may pose a fire risk.
The supports, beam, and LED array compartments can reach high temperatures. To avoid the risk of fire, take the following precautions:
- Take special care with areas marked with a warning label.
- Do not place objects covering the supports, beam, and LED array compartments.
- Do not spill liquids into the accessory. After cleaning, make sure all components are dry before using the printer.
- Do not attempt to modify the supports, beam, and LED array compartments.
Mechanical Hazard
The printer contains moving parts that can cause injury. To avoid injury, take these precautions when working near the printer and optional inline cutters.
- Keep your clothing and all parts of your body away from the printer's moving parts.
- Do not wear chains, bracelets, or other dangling objects.
- If your hair is long, tie it back so it does not get into the printer.
- Be careful that sleeves and gloves do not get caught in the printer's moving parts.
- Do not stand near the fans, as it may cause injury and affect print quality (due to airflow obstruction).
- Do not touch gears or moving rollers during printing.
- Do not use the printer with the covers open.
- Do not touch the inline cutters during printing.
- Handle inline cutters with care and store them safely in their respective cases when not in use with the printer.
Risk of cutting fingers! Remove inline cutters when manipulating the curing module or accessing the substrate path.
Use caution when using the air gun. When used for cleaning, be sure to follow local regulations, as additional safety clauses may apply.
▲ WARNING! Be careful when opening the loading table; never leave it unattended with both latches in the open position. They can open and cause serious injury. Always ensure that both latches are closed correctly.
Light radiation hazard
UV radiation may be emitted from the LED array.
The emitted UV radiation complies with the exemption requirements of IEC 62471:2006 Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems. However, it is recommended not to look directly at the LED lights for extended periods while they are on.
