Getting Started
How Your Dishwasher Cleans
The dishwasher sprays hot water and detergent through spray arms. Water fills the filter area, is pumped through the filter system and spray arms, and soiled particles drain out. Water fills vary by cycle.
Basic Operations
- Load dishwasher (see Dish Preparation).
- Add detergent (see Filling the Detergent Dispenser, page 16).
- Add rinse aid if needed (see Filling the Rinse Aid Dispenser, page 16).
- Select desired cycle (see Cycle Chart, pages 17-18).
- Select desired options.
- Touch START/CANCEL to start.
- Close the door within 4 seconds to begin the cycle.
The dishwasher has a top control panel. Selections activate only when the door is firmly closed. The dishwasher remembers the last cycle used.
Dish Preparation
Before loading, dispose of large food pieces, bones, pits, etc. The filter system removes remaining particles. Loosen burned-on foods and empty liquids from glasses/cups. Foods like mustard, vinegar, or lemon juice may cause discoloration if left on stainless steel/plastics; rinse dishes soiled with these if not running the dishwasher immediately. Ensure food disposer is empty if connected.
Loading the Upper Rack
Designed for cups, glasses, small plates, bowls, and dishwasher-safe plastic items. For best results, place items with soiled surfaces facing down or toward the center, tilting slightly for drainage. Ensure loaded dishes do not interfere with the upper spray arm rotation; check by rotating the arm by hand.
Loading the Lower Rack
Designed for plates, soup bowls, saucers, and cookware up to 13" maximum height. Place large items along the edge to avoid interference with the upper spray arm or detergent dispenser. Turn large items over so the inside faces downward to avoid interference with the lower spray arm.
Loading the Adjustable 3rd Rack
For cutlery or utensils (spatulas, spoons). Load silverware, knives, and utensils separately to prevent nesting. Notes:
- Do not load silver/silver-plated silverware with stainless steel; they can be damaged.
- Some foods (salt, vinegar, milk products, fruit juices) can pit or corrode silverware.
- DO NOT WASH ALUMINUM COOKWARE.
Diagrams show placement for large utensils, spoons, forks, and knives.
Loading the Silverware Basket
The basket has three sections for flexible loading. It can be used individually, joined, or removed. Lift the handle to remove. Lift side sections to disengage the center section. Load silverware while on the counter or replace in the Lower Rack. For Best Results:
- Load sharp items (knives, skewers) with handles up and sharp edges down.
- Forks and spoons can be loaded with handles up or down, using separators to prevent nesting.
- Place small items (bottle caps, jar lids) in sections with hinged covers.
- Unload baskets before racks to avoid water droplets on silverware.
- Mix items with handles up and down to avoid nesting.
Important: Do not let items extend through the bottom. Ensure nothing protrudes to block the lower spray arm. Always load sharp items pointing down.
Adding a Dish
CAUTION TO AVOID BURN INJURY: Slightly open the door and wait for spray arms and wash action to stop. Hot steam or water may escape.
- Open door slightly, wait for wash action to stop.
- If the detergent dispenser is still closed (main wash cycle not started), you may add more dishes.
- Touch START/CANCEL and close the door latch firmly within 4 seconds. The cycle will resume. If the door is not closed within 4 seconds, the cycle will time out.
Rinse Aid
Rinse aid improves drying and reduces water spots/filming. The Rinse Aid Dispenser automatically releases rinse aid during the final rinse. If spotting/poor drying occurs, increase rinse aid by rotating the dial to a higher number (under the dispenser cap). The Rinse Aid Light illuminates when it's time to refill.
Filling the Rinse Aid Dispenser
Use only liquid rinse aid; do not use solid or bar types. Rinse aid typically lasts about one month. Keep the reservoir full but do not overfill.
- Turn the dispenser cap to the left and lift it out.
- Add rinse aid up to the maximum indicator level.
- The amount of rinse aid released can be adjusted. A higher number means more rinse aid. Adjust if dishes are not drying or are spotted (higher setting) or if they have sticky/bluish stains (lower setting).
- Replace the dispenser cap.
Filling the Detergent Dispenser
Heat Dry Function: Used with rinse aid to enhance drying. If not selected, items may not be completely dry.
- Push the dispenser cover latch downward and open it.
- Add detergent to the main wash compartment.
- Close the dispenser cover.

WASH CYCLE SELECTIONS
Cycle times are approximate and will vary with options selected. Hot water is necessary to activate dishwasher detergent and melt fatty food soils. An automatic sensor will check the incoming water temperature, and, if it is not hot enough, the timer will be delayed for automatic water heating in the main wash of all cycles. This happens even when Hi-Temp Wash is selected, as an even higher temperature will be guaranteed to handle heavier soil loads.
Care and Cleaning
Cleaning the Exterior Door and Control Panel
- Clean the stainless steel door and handle regularly with a soft cloth to remove any debris. Do not use appliance wax, polish, bleach or products containing chlorine.
- Gently clean the control panel with a damp cloth.
Cleaning the Stainless Steel Inner Door and Tub
The tub is made of stainless steel and will not rust or corrode if scratched or dented. Clean spots with a damp, nonabrasive cloth.
Cleaning the Cylinder Filter
The Cylinder Filter collects large items like broken glass, bones, and pits. Clean it to maximize wash performance. To remove: remove the Lower Rack, rotate the Cylinder Filter, and lift it out. Empty and clean under running water, then replace.
WARNING: BURN HAZARD. Allow the heating element to cool before cleaning the interior.
Cleaning the Fine Filter
To remove the Fine Filter: remove the Lower Rack, then the bottom spray arm, and then the Cylinder Filter. Remove the Fine Filter from the tub bottom. Flush it clean under running water and replace it.
Cleaning the Door Gasket
Clean the door gasket with a damp cloth regularly to remove food particles.
Inside
The inside is self-cleaning with normal use. If needed, clean the tub gasket with a damp cloth and a brush to clean the opening.
Water Temperature
Hot water is required for optimum results. Water entering the dishwasher should be at least 120°F (49°C). To check: run a hot water faucet near the dishwasher for several minutes, then hold a thermometer in the stream. If below 120°F (49°C), have a qualified person raise the hot water heater thermostat setting. IMPORTANT: To ensure hot water, run hot water from the nearest faucet to clear cool water from the pipe before starting the cycle.
Water Pressure
The hot water supply line must provide adequate pressure. During high-demand periods (e.g., laundry, shower), pressure may be low. For optimum performance, wait until demand is reduced.
Air Gap
An air gap is a plumbing device often located on the sink or countertop. Some codes require it between the dishwasher and the home drain system. If installed, ensure it is clean for proper draining. To clean: turn off dishwasher, lift metal cover, unscrew air gap, and clean with a toothpick.
Store Dishwasher When Unused
Protect from freezing in unheated places. Have a qualified technician perform disconnection/restoration steps:
To Disconnect Service:
- Turn off electrical power at the supply source.
- Turn off the water supply.
- Place a pan under the inlet valve, disconnect water line, and drain into pan.
- Disconnect drain line from pump and drain into pan.
To Restore Service:
- Reconnect water, drain, and electrical power supply.
- Turn on water and electrical power.
- Fill both detergent cups and run a heated wash cycle.
- Check connections for leaks.
