Parts and Features

Diagram Description:

The refrigerator interior and exterior components are identified as follows:

Important Safety Instructions

General Warnings

DANGER: Risk of child entrapment. Before discarding your old refrigerator, remove the doors and leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.

CFCs/HCFCs Disposal: Your old refrigerator may have a cooling system that used CFCs or HCFCs. These are believed to harm the stratospheric ozone if released to the atmosphere. Ensure refrigerants are removed for proper disposal by a qualified technician. Intentional release may subject you to fines and imprisonment.

WARNING: When handling, moving, using, or cleaning this refrigerator, be careful to avoid damaging refrigerant tubing. Tubing damage may allow flammable refrigerant gas leakage, which can result in personal injury.

Electrical Safety

The unit must be plugged into its own dedicated 10 amp, 120 Volt, 60 Hz. AC only electrical outlet.

The power cord is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for protection against shock hazards. It must be plugged directly into a properly grounded three-prong receptacle installed according to local codes. Consult a qualified electrician.

WARNING: Do not use an extension cord or adapter plug.

Do not use the appliance if the power cord is damaged or frayed. Take it to a qualified service dealer.

Never unplug by pulling the power cord; always grip the plug firmly and pull straight from the receptacle.

If your unit has an internal light, unplug the appliance before cleaning or replacing a light bulb to avoid electrical shock.

Performance may be affected if voltage varies by 10% or more. Operating with insufficient power can damage the motor, which is not covered under warranty.

Do not plug into an outlet controlled by a wall switch or pull cord. Avoid connecting to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).

DANGER: Risk of fire or explosion. Flammable refrigerant used. To be repaired only by trained service personnel. Do not use mechanical instruments to remove frost from interior walls. Do not puncture refrigerant tubing.

WARNING: Do not, under any circumstances, cut, remove, or bypass the grounding prong.

California Proposition 65 Warning

The use of this appliance can expose you to chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Preparing to Use Your Refrigerator

Unpacking Your Refrigerator

1. Remove all packaging material, including foam base and adhesive tape. Slide out and remove the plastic or foam guard used to protect the compressor from shipping damage.

2. Inspect and remove any remaining packaging, tape, or printed materials before powering on.

3. Check to be sure you have all accessories and parts listed in the Parts and Features section.

Proper Air Circulation

For maximum efficiency, install in a location with proper air circulation, plumbing, and electrical connections. Recommended clearances:

Electrical Requirements

Ensure a suitable power outlet (120 volts, 15 amps) with proper grounding is available.

Interior Light Bulb Replacement

If the interior 10-watt light bulb burns out, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the refrigerator from the power outlet.
  2. Loosen and remove the bulb by rotating counterclockwise.
  3. Insert the new bulb and screw into the socket.
  4. Plug the refrigerator back into the power outlet.

Operating Your Refrigerator

Installation

Your refrigerator is designed for freestanding installation only; it should not be recessed or built-in. Place it on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded. When moving, never tilt it more than a 45-degree angle, as this could damage the compressor and sealed system. If tilted more than 45 degrees, let it stand upright for at least 24 hours before plugging it in to allow the refrigerant to settle.

Plug into a dedicated, properly installed grounded wall outlet. Do not plug other appliances into the same outlet. Do not cut or remove the third (grounding) prong from the power cord.

After plugging in, allow the unit to cool down for 2-3 hours before placing food inside.

Installation Limitations

Do not install in locations not properly insulated or heated, such as a garage. The refrigerator is not designed to operate in temperatures below 55°F. Select a suitable location on a hard, even surface, away from direct sunlight or heat sources like radiators or cooking appliances.

Leveling Feet

There are two leveling feet at the bottom front. Turn the knobs to the left to raise the cabinet, and to the right to lower it.

Door Reversal

WARNING: Unplug the refrigerator before performing door reversal. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death from electrical shock.

CAUTION: To avoid personal injury and property damage, obtain assistance from another person.

Diagram Description: The door reversal process involves removing the plastic hinge cover from the top of the door, unscrewing the top hinge bracket, lifting the door off the bottom hinge pin, and setting it aside. On the opposite side, remove the hole plug and plastic square cover from the cabinet and door, and transfer them. Remove the bottom foot and hinge bracket, then reattach the bracket and replace the foot. Mount the door onto the bottom bracket, insert the top hinge pin, and secure the top bracket with screws. Replace the hinge cover. Finally, check door alignment and adjust leveling feet if necessary.

CAUTION: If the refrigerator was placed in a horizontal or tilted position for door reversal, wait 24 hours before plugging it in to prevent permanent damage to the cooling system.

Features and Use

Holder Bars

The inside of the refrigerator door is equipped with holder bars to keep food packages, bottles, and pop cans securely in place on the door shelves.

Initial Use

To reach the set coldness level for the first time, run the refrigerator without food until the compressor stops (approx. 2-3 hours). Once the temperature is reached, load food. If the unit was tilted, wait 24 hours before plugging it in.

Temperature Control

Set the temperature control knob to the recommended setting (3) and allow the unit to cool completely before adding food. Adjust past 3 to increase coldness or back from 3 to decrease coldness. Turning the dial to a colder setting increases freezing capability but also increases coldness in the refrigerator section. Turning the knob to position 0 stops the cooling cycle but does not shut off power.

Defrosting the Freezer

WARNING: Unplug the appliance before defrosting to avoid electric shock. Do not use sharp or metallic instruments to remove frost from interior walls, as this may damage refrigerant tubing and cause leakage.

The built-in freezer compartment is designed to keep contents below 32°F. Defrost whenever frost accumulates to a thickness of 1/8" or more. To defrost, push the button in the center of the control dial to shut off power, then unplug the refrigerator. Remove all food. Place the drip tray on the shelf beneath the freezer. Defrosting may take several hours; store food elsewhere. To speed up defrost time, keep the door open and place a bowl of warm water inside.

After defrosting, empty water from the drip tray and freezer compartment, and wipe down both compartments. Turn the control dial to the left as far as it will go to pop the button out. Plug the refrigerator back in and set the control dial to the desired number. Once cooled, replace food.

CAUTION: Do not use boiling water to melt frost accumulation, as it may damage plastic parts.

Care and Cleaning

Normal Operating Sounds

You may hear gurgling sounds or slight vibrations from refrigerant circulation, and the thermostat control will click when cycling on and off.

Cleaning and Maintenance

WARNING: Always unplug your refrigerator before cleaning to avoid electric shock.

CAUTION: Read and understand cleaning product instructions before use.

General Cleaning: Prepare a solution of 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda mixed with warm water. Use a sponge or soft cloth dampened with the solution to wipe down surfaces. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasives, ammonia, bleach, concentrated detergents, or solvents.

Door Gaskets

Clean door gaskets every three months using the general cleaning method. Gaskets must be kept clean and pliable for a proper seal. Applying a light coat of petroleum jelly on the hinge side can help keep them pliable.

Power Interruptions

During power outages, unplug the unit. After power is restored, inspect all food for spoilage and clean the interior before reuse.

Vacation and Moving Care

For long vacations, unplug the unit, empty food from both compartments, set the temperature dial to 0, and clean door gaskets. Prop the door open for air circulation. Always move the refrigerator vertically; moving it horizontally can damage the sealed system.

WARNING: Be careful to avoid damaging refrigerant tubing when handling, moving, using, or cleaning, as this can lead to flammable refrigerant gas leakage and personal injury.
