Automate Pulse 2 Alexa Quick Start Guide

A guide to connecting your Automate Pulse 2 Hub and shades with Amazon Alexa.

Getting Started

Before connecting Alexa to your Automate Pulse 2 account, please ensure your Automate Pulse 2 Hub and shades are working.

Go to your Automate Pulse 2 app and add the Hub following the suggested steps. Afterward, proceed to pair motorized shades through the Pulse 2 App.

To control your shades with Alexa, you will need the following:

  1. Setup and working Automate Pulse 2 Hub.
  2. Paired and working shades within the Pulse 2 App.
  3. Automate Pulse 2 App and account login credentials.
  4. Alexa App and account.

Connecting Automate Shades V2 to Alexa

Step 1: Navigate Alexa App

In the Alexa App, select the 'More' page at the bottom. Then select 'Skills & Games'.

Note: Alexa App version: 2.2.634937.0

This screen displays common Alexa app navigation elements. The bottom bar shows icons for Home, a lightbulb, a [hamburger menu] icon for 'More', and a text input field 'Message Alexa...' next to a [microphone] icon. The main area shows buttons for 'Skills & Games' and 'Calendar'. The 'Skills & Games' button is highlighted.

Step 2: Search for the Skill

Search for "Automate Shades v2" at the top of the 'Skills & Games' page and select the Skill.

The search interface shows a back arrow ◀️, a search input field displaying "Automate Shades v2", and a close button ❌. Below the search bar, a result card appears for "Automate Shades V2" with an example command: "Alexa, close shade name".

Step 3: Enable and Log In

Select 'Enable to Use' and log in.

The 'Automate Shades V2' skill page is displayed, showing its name, rating ("Rated: Guidance Suggested", 4 stars, 34 ratings), and a prominent blue button labeled "ENABLE TO USE". Below this, text indicates "Account linking required".

Enter the email and password associated with your Automate Pulse 2 App to link your account.

Step 4: Discover Devices

Select 'Continue' to discover Scenes and Devices.

The Alexa app will show a list of 'New Connected Devices'. 'Kitchen Left' is listed and marked with a checkmark ✔️. 'Library Right' is listed below it. A blue button reads 'Set Up Device'.

Select each discovered shade and then select 'Set Up Device' to add it to Alexa. Repeat this process for all discovered shades.

Step 5: Test Communication

Test the connection by using voice commands. Simply say:

  • "Alexa, Open Bottom-Up Roller Shade"
  • "Alexa, Close Roman Shade"
  • "Alexa, turn on Good Morning"
  • "Alexa close the Master Bedroom a little bit"
  • "Alexa, set Bedroom Shade to 22%".

A graphic representing sound waves ?️ is shown, indicating voice interaction.

Tips for Using Alexa with Automate

Alexa responds to names created in the Automate Pulse 2 App. Consider using "one" when numbering shades instead of "1". Avoid using all special characters like % and numbers.

If you have changed the name of your shade or scene in your Pulse 2 App, please ensure you force close the Automate Pulse 2 App, then reopen the Pulse 2 App. Only then can you rediscover the devices and scenes in your Alexa App.
