Pour away the boiled water and then repeat the process. If a slight taste or odour remains repeat the above process once more. Using Your Kettle 1 Ensure that the kettle is disconnected from the mains supply. 2 Place the kettle Base (8) on a flat, level, non-flammable surface. 7 IMPORTANT RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE 3 To fill the Kettle, press the Lid Release Catch (4) to open the Lid (3). Push the Lid (3) closed after filling until it clicks into place. 1.7L Hive Kettle Grey Model No. SDA2601 User Manual 4 Fill the kettle to the desired level on the Water Gauge (7) ensuring that it is above the MIN mark and below the MAX mark. WARNING! Do not overfill the kettle above the MAX mark as this will risk boil over and may damage the appliance. 5 Insert the mains plug (with dry hands) into the mains socket. 8 IMPORTANT RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE 1.7L Hive Kettle Grey Model No. SDA2601 User Manual 6 Push the On/Off Switch (6) down which will illuminate and the water will begin to boil. At the end of the boiling cycle the On/Off Switch (6) will automatically switch off (pop up). Wait until the water has finished boiling before removing the kettle from the Base (8). Boil dry Protection Should you accidentally let the appliance operate without water; the boil-dry protection will automatically switch off the power. If this occurs, allow the appliance to cool and reset before use. Important Descaling your Kettle/Reducing Limescale Build up · To prolong the life of your kettle it is imperative that it is descaled regularly. · The frequency of the descaling depends on the hardness of the water in your area and how often the appliance is used. · In extreme hard water areas, descaling your kettle at least once a month is highly recommended also the use of filtered water in your kettle will increase the life expectancy and help prevent excessive lime scale build up. · If the kettle switches off before it boils or has a white deposit building up inside then it will need to be descaled. · Do not use vinegar but a commercially available descaling agent; carefully follow the quantities recommended in the instructions of the agent: 1 Fill your kettle to the `MAX' mark on the Water Gauge (7) or the water quantity recommended by the descaling product. 2 Add a descaling agent to the kettle according to the descaling products instructions. 9 IMPORTANT RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE 1.7L Hive Kettle Grey Model No. SDA2601 User Manual Allow the kettle to boil, switch off and then stand to allow the kettle 3 to soak for approximately 15 20 minutes, (if necessary, adjust the standing time to the descaling products instructions). 4 Finally, empty the kettle and refill with fresh clean water and allow to come to the boil and switch off once more, then again pour the water away. Your kettle is now descaled and cleaned. Replacing the Filter (2) Filter The Filter (2) is located inside the kettle behind the Spout (1) and is accessible from inside the kettle when the Lid (3) is open. Open the Lid (3). Press the catch (arrowed) down on the Filter (2) and then lift the filter out as shown left. Replace the Filter (2) by pushing it back inside the kettle behind the Spout (1), ensuring the catch is clicked back into place and close the Lid (3). Cleaning and Maintenance · Always unplug the Kettle from the mains supply and allow to cool before cleaning. · Do not immerse the kettle or the base in water or any other liquids. · Wipe the kettle clean with a clean damp cloth. · Do not use harsh or abrasive scouring pads, powders or cleaners. · Do not clean any part of the kettle in a dishwasher. 10 IMPORTANT RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE Troubleshooting Guide Problem Possible Cause Kettle not boiling On/Off Switch (6) is not pressed down. Plug not inserted into the mains socket and/or not switched on. Kettle not seated on the base correctly. Kettle switches off before boiling Fuse blown in plug. Not enough water in the Kettle. Ensure the mains plug is plugged into the mains socket and the socket is switched on. Ensure the Kettle is seated correctly on the Base (8). Check fuse by substitution. Ensure the Kettle is filled with sufficient water and the water level is above the `MIN' mark on the Water Gauge (7). Follow `Descaling your Kettle' above. Ensure that the Kettle is not filled above the `MAX' mark on the Water Gauge (7). Non-Rewireable Mains Plug If your appliance is supplied with a non-rewireable plug fitted to the mains lead and should the fuse needed replacing, you must use an ASTA approved one (conforming to BS 1362 of the same rating). Never use a plug with the fuse cover missing. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician. If you need to remove the plug -DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS- and then cut it off the mains lead and immediately dispose of it safely. Never attempt to reuse the plug or insert it into a socket outlet as there is a danger of electric shock.
