210000 | 84 mm (3.300") | 62 mm (2.438") | 342 cu. cm (20.85 cu. in.) |
Valve Clearance (with valve springs installed and piston 6 mm below TDC at start of power stroke, check on cold engine):
- Intake: 0.10-0.15 mm (0.004-0.006")
- Exhaust: 0.23-0.28 mm (0.009-0.011")
- Air gap for ignition coil: 0.25-0.36 mm (0.010-0.014")
- Spark plug gap: 0.76 mm (0.030")
Altitude and Temperature Derating: Engine power decreases by 3.5% for every 1000 ft (300 m) above sea level and 1% for every 10°F (5.6°C) above 77°F (25°C). The engine will operate satisfactorily up to a 15° tilt.
Safety Information
General Safety Warnings:
- DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
- CAUTION indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
- NOTICE indicates a situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.
- NOTICE used without the safety alert symbol indicates a situation that may result in engine damage.
Hazard Symbols:
- ? Flammable substances / Explosion hazard
- ⚡ Electric shock
- ?️ Hot surface
- ? Recoil
- ? Toxic gases
- ⚙️ Moving parts
Specific Safety Precautions:
- Sparking Hazard: Engine starting can create sparks. Do not start the engine where flammable gases are leaking or where aerosol cans are used.
- Gasoline Hazard: Gasoline and its vapors are extremely flammable and explosive. Keep away from ignition sources. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not overfill.
- Kickback Hazard: Pull the starter cord slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly. Remove all loads from the equipment before starting.
- Hot Surfaces Hazard: Engine parts, especially the muffler, become very hot. Allow parts to cool before touching. Keep the area around the muffler and cylinder clear of combustible debris.
- Moving Parts Hazard: Keep hands, feet, hair, and clothing away from moving parts. Do not operate without safety guards.
- Exhaust Fumes Hazard: Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Operate only in well-ventilated areas, never indoors.
Operating Recommendations
Fuel: Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 85. Do not use fuel containing methanol. Do not mix oil with gasoline. For storage longer than 30 days, use a fuel stabilizer or drain the fuel system.
Starting the Engine:
- Check oil level.
- Turn fuel shut-off valve to OPEN.
- Set choke to CHOKE (closed) and throttle to FAST (or as indicated for model).
- Press primer bulb 4 times (or as recommended for temperature).
- Pull the starter rope slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly.
- As the engine warms, gradually move the choke to RUN (open).
Electric Starter: Connect power cord, then press starter button. Use short starting cycles (max 5 seconds, wait one minute between cycles). Disconnect power after starting.
Stopping the Engine:
- Move the throttle control to SLOW, then to STOP.
- Turn the fuel shut-off valve to CLOSE.
- Remove the safety key (if applicable).
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity. Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing maintenance.
Maintenance Schedule
- First 5 Hours: Change oil.
- Every 8 Hours or Daily: Check oil level.
- Every 50 Hours or Each Season: Change oil, clean and inspect air cleaner (if applicable).
- Every 100 Hours or Each Season: Clean/replace spark plug, replace fuel filter (if equipped).
Engine Oil Change (Refer to Fig. 5)
Change oil when the engine is warm. Drain oil by removing the drain plug. Refill with the recommended grade and amount of oil. Do not overfill. Check oil level regularly.
Keeping the Engine Clean (Refer to Fig. 6)
Keep the engine clean from dirt and debris. Do not wash the engine with water. Clean with a brush or compressed air. Ensure the area around the muffler is clear of combustible material. Keep linkages and controls free of dirt.
Spark Plug Maintenance (Refer to Fig. 7 & 8)
Clean or replace the spark plug every 100 hours or annually. Ensure the spark plug gap is set to 0.76 mm (0.030"). To access the spark plug, remove the snow cover by unscrewing the retaining screws.
Storage
For storage longer than 30 days, it is recommended to use a fuel stabilizer and run the engine briefly to circulate it through the fuel system. Alternatively, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel. Clean the engine and store in a dry, protected area away from ignition sources.
