Thank you for choosing the S9 AutoSet or S9 Elite. Before using these devices, please read the entire welcome and information guides.
The S9 at a Glance
The S9 includes the following items:
- S9 device
- SlimLine breathing circuit
- 90 W or 30 W power supply
- S9 travel bag
- S9 SD card
- Protective pouch for S9 SD card
Optional components include:
- H5i heated humidifier
- H5i water tub
- Standard breathing circuit
- ClimateLine heated breathing circuit
- ClimateLineMAX heated breathing circuit
- 90 W power supply
- 30 W power supply (does not support H5i)
- Power Station II battery pack
- 24 V/90 W DC/DC converter
Travel Tips
When traveling with the S9 device only:
- Ensure you have the SlimLine or Standard breathing circuit, as the ClimateLine or ClimateLineMAX heated breathing circuit is not designed for direct connection to an S9 device.
- Purchase and bring a power cord approved for the region where the S9 device will be used.
Assembly
Follow these steps for assembly:
- Connect the DC plug of the power supply to the back of the S9.
- Connect the power cord to the power supply.
- Plug the other end of the power cord into a power outlet.
- Firmly insert one end of the breathing circuit into the air outlet port.
- Connect the assembled mask to the free end of the breathing circuit.

An Overview of the S9
LCD Display: The device features a liquid crystal display.
Home Menu: The main screen of the device.
Start/Stop Button: Press this button to start or stop therapy.
Info Menu: Allows you to view treatment statistics.
Configuration Menu: Allows you to make setting adjustments.
Push Dial: Rotate the dial to scroll through menus and modify settings. Press the dial to enter a menu or confirm a selection.

Note: If your clinician has enabled S9 Essentials, the Info and Configuration menus are disabled.
Ramp Adjustment
The ramp is the period during which the device gradually increases pressure from a low level to the prescribed therapy pressure, making the initial stages of treatment more comfortable. To set the ramp:
- On the Home screen, rotate the dial until the RAMPA screen is displayed in blue.
- Press the dial. The selection will be highlighted in orange.
- Rotate the dial until your desired ramp time is displayed.
- Press the dial to confirm your choice.
Mask Leak Detection Function
The mask leak detection function helps ensure your mask has an optimal seal. This function delivers pressure for three minutes before therapy begins, allowing you to check the mask seal and make adjustments to minimize air leaks.
- Wear the mask as described in the user guide.
- On the Home screen, press and hold the dial for three seconds. One of the following screens will be displayed:
Screen 1: "TENUTA MSC Sistema" (Mask Seal System)
Screen 2: "TENUTA MSC Buona" (Mask Seal Good)
- If necessary, adjust the mask, mask cushion, and headgear until a good seal is achieved. After three minutes, the pressure will drop to the set value and therapy will begin.
The mask leak detection function can be interrupted at any time by pressing the dial [power-symbol].
S9 Essentials
S9 Essentials is designed to make patient interaction and menu navigation easier. If enabled by your clinician, S9 Essentials disables the Info and Configuration functionalities, allowing you to simply start and stop therapy, and adjust ramp, humidification, and Climate Control.
Mask Type Selection*
To select your mask type, follow these steps:
- Press the button to display the SETTINGS page.
- Rotate the dial until the word "Maschera" (Mask) is highlighted in blue.
- Press the dial. The selection will be highlighted in orange.
- Rotate the dial until the required mask setting is displayed (e.g., Cushion, Oro-nasal).
- Press the dial to confirm your selection.
- Press the dial to return to the Home screen.
*If your clinician has enabled S9 Essentials, you cannot select the mask type.
Getting Started
- Ensure the device is connected to mains power.
- Adjust the ramp duration if necessary.
- Wear the mask as described in the user guide.
- To start therapy, simply breathe into the mask or press the start/stop button [power-symbol].
- Lie down and position the breathing circuit so it can move freely as you turn during sleep.
- To stop therapy at any time, remove the mask or press the start/stop button [power-symbol].
Notes:
- If your doctor has enabled the SmartStart function, the device automatically starts when you breathe into the mask and stops when the mask is removed.
- Immediately after starting treatment, a treatment screen is displayed.
- If power is interrupted during treatment, the device will automatically restart therapy once power is restored.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Refer to the mask and humidifier user guides for detailed care instructions for these components.
Daily Operations
Disconnect the breathing circuit by gripping the finger grips on the cuff. Hang in a clean, dry place until next use.
Notes:
- Do not expose the breathing circuit to direct sunlight, as it may harden and crack over time.
- Do not wash the breathing circuit in a washing machine or dishwasher.
Weekly Operations
- Disconnect the breathing circuit from the S9 device and mask.
- Wash the breathing circuit in lukewarm water using a mild detergent.
- Rinse thoroughly and hang to dry.
- Before next use, reconnect the breathing circuit to the air outlet port and mask.
Monthly Operations
- Wipe the exterior surface of the S9 with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
- Check that the air filter is not punctured or blocked by dirt or dust. Replace the air filter if necessary.
Air Filter Replacement
Replace the air filter every six months (or more often if necessary).
- Remove the air filter cover located on the back of the S9.
- Remove and discard the old filter.
- Insert a new ResMed air filter, ensuring it lies flat in the filter cover.
- Replace the air filter cover.
Notes:
- Ensure the air filter and its cover are always installed.
- Do not wash the air filter. It is neither washable nor reusable.

SD Card
The package includes an SD card that collects therapy data from the S9 device and receives setting updates from your clinician. When asked, disconnect the S9 device from mains power, remove the SD card, insert it into its protective pouch, and send it to your clinician.
SD Card Extraction
- Push the SD card to eject it.
- Remove the card.
- Insert the card into the protective pouch.
- Return the protective pouch to the clinician according to instructions.
For instructions on removing and inserting the SD card, refer to the SD card protective pouch supplied with the device. Please keep the S9 SD card pouch for future use.
