Musical Fidelity BPC Balanced Power Conditioner
Introduction
The Musical Fidelity BPC (Balanced Power Conditioner) presents the ideal power supply solution. In the development labs of all Hi-Fi manufacturers, devices are fundamentally developed and operated using power from isolation transformers – this is, in isolation, the only way to develop and evaluate a device neutrally. With the Musical Fidelity BPC, your components can deliver 100% of their sonic potential. Apart from basic power supplies, which can typically only handle low power levels, the isolation transformer is the most efficient and best way to deliver clean power to downstream devices, especially when dealing with powerful amplifiers capable of high dynamic performance.
The mains power network is polluted by various disturbances. This includes the DC component, which can fluctuate between a few millivolts and up to 14 Volts, as well as many small and larger distortions of the sine wave. With the isolation transformer combined with the upstream DC filter in the BPC, you achieve complete galvanic isolation from the mains network, resulting in absolutely clean power. Unlike many active and parallel filters, the passive isolation transformers in the Musical Fidelity BPC feature extremely high efficiency, guaranteeing absolutely unclouded musical dynamics. Furthermore, the 'B' (Balanced) in BPC stands for the symmetry of the isolation transformers. These have their ground point not at the end but between two windings, ensuring even better control and absolute freedom from interference. This creates a sovereign, powerful sound image against a black background – the key to the highest musicality.
Application
The Musical Fidelity BPC is the first device in your Hi-Fi chain, supplying all components with clean power. The BPC features different zones, which are also galvanically isolated from each other. This offers the possibility to separate analog and digital devices on one hand, and to operate powerful integrated or power amplifiers in their own dedicated zone on the other. This perfectly isolates even those disturbances produced by the Hi-Fi equipment itself.
You can choose from four models, tailored to the power requirements of your system.
Model Overview
Model | Zones | Output 1 | Output 2 |
BPC16 | 3 | 1x 2000VA | 2x 600VA |
BPC10 | 3 | 1x 1550VA | 2x 200VA |
BPC5 | 2 | 1x 800VA | 1x 200VA |
BPC3 | 2 | 2x 300VA |
Usage Recommendations
- Digital and analog sources typically have low power requirements. These can be operated in almost all cases with all zones of all four BPCs.
- We recommend separating digital and analog source devices. Use one zone exclusively for digital sources such as streamers, CD players, and digital/analog converters. Connect analog sources like preamplifiers, phono preamplifiers, or turntables to another zone.
- Analog pre- and power amplifiers can be combined without issues. Integrated and power amplifiers have higher power requirements.
- The table at the end of this product information shows the combination possibilities of Musical Fidelity devices and the corresponding BPC.
- Otherwise, check your amplifier's manual to ensure its maximum current draw does not exceed the maximum output power of that zone.
Calculating Amplifier Power Requirements
If you cannot find information on the maximum current draw for your amplifier, you can calculate it yourself. The basis should be your amplifier's peak power output at 8 Ohms.
- Class-A: Add an additional 100% of the amplifier's maximum power output as a reserve to determine peak power draw. Example calculation: Your amplifier outputs a maximum of 25 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms. This equals 50 Watts total. Therefore, calculate with 100 VA (Factor 2).
- Class-AB: Add an additional 50% of the amplifier's maximum power output as a reserve to determine peak power draw. Example calculation: Your amplifier outputs a maximum of 75 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms. This equals 150 Watts total. Therefore, calculate with 225 VA (Factor 1.5).
- Class-D: No additional reserve is necessary here. Example calculation: Your amplifier outputs a maximum of 100 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms. This equals 200 Watts total. Therefore, calculate with 200 VA (Factor 1.0).
The Sound
Experience spacious rooms, tangible performers, all set against an absolutely black background. The decay of piano strings no longer disappears into a carpet of noise that was previously not clearly identifiable but now obviously present. Without hearing it, it is simply unimaginable what a significant influence power quality has on the musical reproduction quality of your system.
Musical Fidelity BPC - the key to complete musical enjoyment.
