Before You Start

Before beginning the installation of your new KNOXHULT kitchen, ensure you have all necessary items ready. Opening all packages at once can lead to confusion and loss of parts.

Safety First: Always ensure electricity is turned off, and water and gas supplies are shut off before starting. For these critical steps, always hire a professional.

Tools and Materials

Below is a summary of the main tools required for kitchen installation. The assembly instructions for individual products will specify which tools are needed for each item.

Note: Base cabinet holders are only for cabinets.

Secure Wall Mountings

Warning! Serious injury or death can occur if furniture tips over. Use the provided wall anchoring devices to prevent furniture from tipping over. Screws and plugs for the wall are not included. Check the load-bearing capacity of your wall to ensure it can support the furniture. Use appropriate screws and plugs for your wall material. Seek advice from a professional if you are unsure. Read and follow each step of the instruction booklet carefully.

It is important for your safety and the safety of others that you know what type of wall you have.

The two most common types of walls are concrete walls and drywall. More information can be found on the next page.

An electronic stud finder can help you locate studs and support beams.

Get recommendations for the appropriate size and type of screws for your walls at your local building supply store.

For some wall materials, you will also need wall plugs. Please note that wall plugs are not recommended for walls with studs where furniture needs to be attached to the studs for secure mounting.

You may also need a drill for some wall materials.

What Kind of Walls Do You Have?

Before you start, you need to check what type of walls are in the room. Walls are made of different materials. The main types are drywall and concrete walls.

Drywall with Studs

Inside the walls are wooden or steel studs. You need to attach the furniture to the studs to ensure it is securely and safely fastened to the wall.

Concrete Walls

These walls are harder to drill into. It is advisable to use a hammer drill with a masonry bit.

Here are some ways to find out what kind of walls you have:

Prepare the Space

Measure the space to ensure everything will fit.

Now is a good time to paint, tile, or replace flooring if needed.

Mark the cabinet positions on the wall. Use a pencil to draw the outlines of the cabinets to ensure plumbing, electricity, and gas are where you want them.

Install Base Cabinets

Carefully carry in the packages. Find the cabinets you will start assembling and set the rest aside.

Open the package and follow the assembly instructions carefully when assembling the cabinet.

Once the cabinet has been assembled, it is time to place it against the wall where you have marked it with a pencil. It is best to have someone assist you in moving the cabinet.

Next, level the cabinet using a spirit level and adjust the feet as needed.

If you have determined that you have a wall with studs, you must ensure that the cabinet is attached to at least one stud.

Use a pencil to mark where you need to drill into the wall and use the holes in the metal brackets at the top of the cabinet corners as a guide.

Ensure the markings are correct and that there are no electrical or water pipes where you plan to drill.

The type of drill, drill bit, screws, and plugs will depend on the wall material.

Secure the cabinet to the wall using the provided mounting screws. Use the correct screws for your wall material and fasten the cabinet to the wall.

Once the cabinet has been securely attached to the wall, you can proceed to install doors and drawers. Do not expect it to be perfect on the first try! Doors can be adjusted afterwards.

Congratulations! You have installed the base cabinets. Now we move on to the wall cabinets!

Install Wall Cabinets

Start by measuring out where you want the wall cabinets and marking them with a pencil.

Follow the assembly instructions carefully when assembling them.

Drill holes in the wall using the correct type of drill and drill bit for your wall material, and use appropriate screws and plugs, just as you did with the base cabinets.

Screw the screws halfway into the wall.

Get help lifting the cabinet onto the screws.

Great! The cabinet is now on the wall.

Attach the provided brackets to the screws and finish screwing them into the wall.

Now you can add doors and adjust the hinges so they are at the correct height and close properly.

Congratulations! The kitchen now has base and wall cabinets. The next steps are to install the extractor hood and/or sink and faucet. Let's continue!

Install Tall Cabinets

Open the package and follow the assembly instructions carefully when assembling the cabinet.

Get assistance to position it against the wall.

Adjust the feet if necessary so it stands straight.

It is essential to securely attach the tall cabinet to the wall to prevent it from tipping over and causing an accident.

Use a pencil to mark where you need to drill into the wall and use the holes in the metal brackets at the top of the cabinet corners as a guide.

Be sure to attach the cabinet to the studs if you have a wall with studs. You will need the correct screws and plugs suitable for your wall material for other types of walls.

Once the cabinet has been securely attached to the wall, you can attach the doors and finally the shelves. You can position the shelves according to your needs.

You can extend the tall cabinet with a KNOXHULT wall cabinet of the same width.

Attach the upper cabinet to the wall (as other wall cabinets in the section "Install Wall Cabinets") and to the tall cabinet.

You can also attach a wall cabinet to the side of a tall cabinet to add storage space.

Attach the upper cabinet to the wall (as other wall cabinets in the section "Install Wall Cabinets") and to the tall cabinet.

Well done! The kitchen is now ready for the installation of the sink, faucets, and appliances.

Install Extractor Hood

It is now time to unpack the extractor hood. The assembly instructions will guide you through the process. They specify the necessary distance between the worktop and the hood.

Carefully measure the height of the hood cabinet and mark it with a pencil.

Use the paper template included with the hood to mark where the duct should be positioned.

Glue the template to the back or top of the cabinet, depending on where the ventilation opening is located, and use a pencil to mark the hole.

Then use a jigsaw to cut a hole in the cabinet according to the markings.

Use the correct screws for your wall material and attach the cabinet to the wall.

Get assistance to lift the hood up under the cabinet and secure it with the provided screws.

Insert the duct through the hole and connect it to the ventilation outlet.

Warning: Specialized personnel must handle all electrical connection work. Seek advice from a professional if you are unsure.

Install Sink and Faucet

If the plumbing pipes come up from the floor or out of the wall, carefully measure their position and mark it on the base cabinet. Remember: Measure twice, cut once!

Use a punch or jigsaw to cut openings in the cabinet for the pipes. If the opening is in the bottom, the cut edges should be sealed with polyurethane silicone to prevent water damage.

Get assistance to lift the cabinet into place over the plumbing.

Use a spirit level to ensure it is straight. You can then use the feet to adjust it if necessary.

You can now place the sink in its position even if you have no plumbing knowledge. You will see how it is done in the next steps.

Mark the sink position on the countertop with a pencil according to the included instructions.

Use a jigsaw to cut out the sink opening. It is good to drill holes in the inner corners of the outline before you start cutting so the cut will be smoother.

Apply silicone to the cut edges to prevent moisture from seeping into the countertop.

Secure the sink in its place as described in the assembly instructions.

Carefully measure where you want to place the faucet on the countertop and how large a hole you need for it. Then mark the position with a pencil.

Use a punch to make a hole for the faucet on the countertop according to your markings.

Now you can attach the faucet to the countertop according to the included instructions. The sink and faucet are now in place. The remaining plumbing work should be performed by a qualified professional.

Finishing Touches

It's all coming together! Only the finishing touches remain to complete your KNOXHULT kitchen.

To complete the overall look, let's add knobs and handles to the doors and drawers. Be sure to measure carefully and mark the correct position with a pencil.

Attach small wooden pieces to the back of the doors with a screwdriver to prevent them from peeling off at the particleboard edges. This helps to increase the stability of the material.

Drill holes where you have marked for the knobs and handles and attach them with the provided screws.

Hinges can be adjusted so that the doors are even and straight.

Finally, add organization products and accessories for a complete kitchen.

Kitchen Care

Congratulations, the kitchen is ready! Now it's time to step back, admire your new KNOXHULT kitchen, and congratulate yourself on saving money by assembling and installing it yourself!

With proper care and maintenance, your new IKEA kitchen will look good for years to come.

Clean the sink after use with a damp cloth or sponge with a detergent that contains no abrasives. Rinse the sink with water and dry with a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or hard or sharp tools that can scratch the stainless steel surface. The surface can become discolored if iron-containing substances are left on the surface for a long time, for example, steel wool, nails, or small stones. The material in the object causes the discoloration.

Keep the countertop in excellent condition by immediately wiping up spills with water and a mild detergent. Keep it as dry as possible after use.

To keep plastic laminate countertops like new, be sure to always use a cutting board and do not cut directly on the countertop with a knife. Avoid dragging objects that could scratch the surface of the board.

Clean the doors and the inside of the cabinets with a soft, damp cloth. Use only appropriate cleaning agents. Absolutely do not use cleaning agents containing ammonia, alcohol, bleach, or abrasive substances. Use a microfiber cloth with a mild detergent that contains no abrasives for stubborn stains and then rub in circular motions. Rinse with water and then dry with a clean, dry cloth. Always wipe up liquids that spill immediately.

With proper care, the kitchen will last for many years. If something breaks or is lost, spare parts can be ordered for most KNOXHULT kitchen units. Visit the IKEA website to see which spare parts are available for your kitchen.
