CompX 150 Series Cabinet eLock: Installation, Programming, and Operation Guide
Thank you for purchasing the CompX eLock. The information contained in these instructions is intended to serve as a guide so as to allow the eLock to be quickly and easily put into service.
The 150 series cabinet eLock has three main components:
Components Overview
The CompX 150 Series cabinet eLock consists of the following key parts:
- Controller: The electronic keypad and reader unit.
- Motorized gear-driven latch: The mechanism that secures the cabinet.
- Battery compartment: Houses the power source for the eLock.
Physical Dimensions
Exterior Mount: Approximately 2.66 inches wide by 5.54 inches high, with a depth of 0.82 inches.
Interior Mount: The latch mechanism requires approximately 2.25 inches height and 2.51 inches depth. The battery compartment requires approximately 6 inches height, 1.21 inches depth, and 2.40 inches width.
eLock Controller Details
The front of the eLock controller features:
- Alpha-numeric keypad for PIN entry.
- "ENTER" button to confirm input.
- "CLEAR" button to cancel or correct input.
- HID Prox or HID iCLASS reader location (if equipped) for card access.
- Low battery indicator (? yellow LED).
- Green LED (?) for status indication.
- Red LED (?) for status indication.
Controller Views and Connectors
Front View: Includes the keypad, reader, and a USB Port for direct connection to LockView software.
Back View: Features connectors for:
- Latch cable connector
- Battery compartment cable connector
- Door switch cable connector (optional)
An installation example shows the eLock mounted on a cabinet door; it can also be installed on drawers.
Manual Programming
Getting Started
The eLock is shipped without a PIN or pre-programmed card credentials. There are two levels of credential: User and Supervisor. Only a Supervisor credential can perform manual programming.
Note: A valid Supervisor credential triggers a flashing green LED on the reader, while a User credential results in a solid green LED.
Initial Programming (Out of Box or After Factory Reset)
(Refer to page 9 for FACTORY RESET instructions)
- Press and hold the "ENTER" button until beeping stops.
- Enter a PIN (4 to 14 digits) and press "ENTER", or present a card (if equipped).
This PIN/card becomes the Supervisor level credential, occupying slot 001. The eLock supports a maximum of 250 slots.
To Add a User
- Input a valid Supervisor PIN and press "ENTER", or present a valid Supervisor card.
- Press and hold the "ENTER" button until beeping stops.
- Input the new User PIN and press "ENTER", or present a new User card.
To Add a Supervisor
- Input a valid Supervisor PIN and press "ENTER", or present a valid Supervisor card.
- Press and hold the "ENTER" button until beeping stops.
- Press and hold the "ENTER" button again until beeping stops.
- Input the new Supervisor PIN and press "ENTER", or present a NEW Supervisor card.
To Delete a User or Supervisor
- Input a valid Supervisor PIN and press "ENTER", or present a valid Supervisor card.
- Press and hold the "CLEAR" button until beeping stops.
- Input the PIN to be deleted and press "ENTER", or present the existing card to be deleted.
To Add a User with Specific Slot Assignment
- Input a valid Supervisor PIN and press "ENTER", or present a valid Supervisor card.
- Press and hold the "ENTER" button until beeping stops.
- Enter the desired slot number (e.g., type 018 for slot 18) and press "ENTER".
- Input the new PIN (minimum 4 digits) and press "ENTER", or present a NEW card.
To Delete a User with Specific Slot Assignment
- Input a valid Supervisor PIN and press "ENTER", or present a valid Supervisor card.
- Press and hold the "CLEAR" button until beeping stops.
- Enter the slot number to be cleared (e.g., type 006 for slot 6) and press "ENTER".
- Enter the slot number again and press "ENTER".
Operation Instructions
Follow these instructions to open the eLock:
- Keypad: Enter a valid PIN (4 to 14 digits) and press "ENTER".
- Card: If equipped with a card reader (HID Prox or HID iCLASS), present a valid card.
- Dual Credential: Enter the first credential (PIN or card), then the second credential (PIN, 4 to 14 digits), and press "ENTER".
The latch bolt will extend automatically after the factory default time or custom programmed time (set in LockView) has expired. Press "CLEAR" to extend the bolt immediately.
Low Battery
The "LOW BATT" indicator light will illuminate when the battery is low.
Setup Mode
Setup Mode is required to add the eLock to LockView software and to perform a FACTORY RESET. Press and hold "CLEAR" until audible beeping stops. Enter the SETUP CODE (found on the green sticker set) and press "ENTER".
Factory Reset
WARNING: FACTORY RESET will delete all previously programmed credentials.
With the eLock in SETUP MODE, press and hold "CLEAR", then press and continue to hold "8", and then press "6". The eLock will emit a short series of audible major tones, and the green LED will blink continuously. Programming can then begin again as if the eLock was "OUT OF THE BOX".
Database Integration with LockView Software
Methods to build a database of eLocks in CompX's LockView Software.
Note: Supervisor, User, and parameter changes that already exist in the eLock will automatically be carried into LockView once the eLock has been enrolled.
LockView Mode Instructions
CompX LockView Software v5 must be installed, and the eLock must be in SETUP mode. (See page 9 for Setup Mode Instructions).
Stand-alone eLocks (Direct USB connection to a laptop computer with LockView is required)
There are two methods to add eLocks to the LockView software:
Automatic Method
- With the eLock in SETUP mode, connect it via the USB cable to the computer on which LockView is installed.
- Login to LockView.
- After approximately 30 seconds, a "New Lock Detected" dialog will appear, indicating a new lock (e.g., SN 0000000094398902) has been added. The dialog asks: "Would you like to supply a name for that lock now?"
- Click "Yes".
- A "New Name Entry" dialog will appear, prompting you to type in the name of the lock. The field "Leave 'New Lock Name' field blank if you do not wish to define it at this time" is provided.
- Click "Save" when done.
- Navigate to the "Lock Editor" tab within the "Lock/User Editor".
- Left-click to highlight the name of the lock, then click "Edit Lock".
- Verify and/or adjust all other lock parameters. (Refer to the LockView Instruction Manual for complete details.)
- Click "OK" when done.
Note: After 5 minutes of inactivity, the eLock will exit SETUP mode.
Manual Method
- Login to LockView.
- Navigate to the "Lock/User Editor" tab, then the "Lock Editor" tab, and click "Add Lock".
- Enter the required information: Lock Name; Lock Serial Number; and Setup Code (supplied on the green sticker set as Setup Cd).
- Verify and/or adjust all other lock parameters and click "OK". (Refer to the LockView Instruction Manual for complete details on these options.)
- With the eLock in SETUP mode, connect it via the USB cable to the computer on which LockView is installed.
- After approximately 30 seconds, the lock will be updated in LockView. Click "Refresh" to prompt the update.
Note: After 5 minutes of inactivity, the eLock will exit SETUP mode.
