User Manual: Robe Ambiane AP Lighting Fixture
The Ambiane AP unit generates light using high-power LEDs and is designed exclusively for indoor use.
1. Attention & Safety Precautions
Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician, adhering to all national and local electrical and construction codes and regulations.
- Avoid direct eye exposure to the LED light beam at close range.
- Do not install near highly flammable liquids or materials.
- Do not place objects on top of the unit.
- Do not install near open flames.
- Avoid installing in dirty, dusty, or poorly ventilated locations.
- Ensure adequate airflow around the unit. Maintain a minimum clearance of 0.6m x 0.6m from heat or anti-noise insulation (non-IC rated fixture).
The equipment's immunity is designed for electromagnetic environments E1, E2, E3 as per EN55103-2 ed.2 (Electromagnetic compatibility). It is part of a product family standard for professional audio, video, audiovisual, and entertainment lighting control apparatus.
The product, including covers and cables, must not be exposed to high-frequency electromagnetic fields exceeding 3V/m.
Installation companies should assess potential interference levels in the installation area before deployment.
Equipment emissions comply with EN55032 Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment – Emission Requirements, Class B.
Mounting Requirements:
- Suitable for fastening on non-flammable surfaces only.
- Unsuitable for covering by heat insulation material.
Always switch off the power supply before connecting or disconnecting the unit. ⚡
2. Installation Guide
Follow these steps for installing the Ambiane AP unit:
- Prepare a circular opening in the ceiling with a diameter of 212 mm (+2/-0) and a depth of 5-45 mm.
- Insert the Ambiane AP unit into the prepared opening.
- Fasten the unit securely using the two integrated spring fasteners.
- Connect the necessary cables to the Ambiane AP. Connection blocks are located on the main PCB (RB 3727), protected by a plastic cover secured with screws.
Power Supply:
- The unit features a primary power input for standard operation and a secondary input for backup power.
- The primary power source takes precedence; the secondary input is disabled when the primary is active.
- If the primary power fails, the secondary power becomes active, allowing light intensity to be adjusted via a trimmer.
Control Options: The Ambiane AP supports DMX 512, DALI, and 0-10V control (0-10V is applicable to Ambiane PW and Ambiane TD models only).
The unit is equipped with dual DMX and DALI connection blocks to facilitate easy daisy-chaining (In/Out method).
3. DMX and DALI Address Setting & Control
The unit is equipped with a DIP switch (7) for test light functionality and software update mode selection.
- DIP 10: When ON, activates test light mode (3200K for RGBW and TW versions).
- DIP 11: OFF selects DMX 512 or DALI control; ON selects 0-10V control.
- DIP 12: Switching from OFF to ON enables the software update mode. This is not necessary if using the Robe Uploader.
DMX Control:
The DMX start address, the first channel for DMX controller input, can range from 1 to 509. Addresses can be set via DIP switch or RDM; RDM settings override DIP switch settings and vice versa. The green LED (8) on the PCB indicates the address setting method: LED ON signifies DIP switch setting, while LED OFF indicates RDM setting. DIP 11 must be in the OFF position for DMX control.
Example DMX Address Settings (DIP Switch Configuration):
- DMX Address 1: DIP 1 ON (all other DMX DIPs 2-9 OFF).
- DMX Address 2: DIP 2 ON (all other DMX DIPs 1, 3-9 OFF).
- DMX Address 3: DIP 1 ON, DIP 2 ON (all other DMX DIPs 3-9 OFF).
- DMX Address 18: DIP 2 ON (value 2), DIP 5 ON (value 16) (all other DMX DIPs 1, 3, 4, 6-9 OFF).
- DMX Address 50: DIP 2 ON (2), DIP 3 ON (4), DIP 5 ON (16), DIP 6 ON (32) (all other DMX DIPs 1, 4, 7-9 OFF).
- DMX Address 512: DIP 1 ON (1), DIP 2 ON (2), DIP 3 ON (4), DIP 4 ON (8), DIP 5 ON (16), DIP 6 ON (32), DIP 7 ON (64), DIP 8 ON (128), DIP 9 ON (256) (all other DMX DIPs OFF).
DALI Control:
Addressing is managed by an external DALI controller. To initiate permanent DALI control (disabling DMX), send the activating command (8=ON). To stop control, send the deactivating command (0=OFF). DIP 11 must be in the OFF position.
Control Mode Switching: When DIP 11 is OFF, the first command received (DMX or DALI) determines the active mode. For continuous DALI operation, send DALI command 8.
0-10V Control:
Set DIP 11 to the ON position. This mode has priority over DALI commands and is available for Ambiane PW and Ambiane TD models only.
4. RDM (Remote Device Management)
The Ambiane AP supports RDM, a bi-directional communication protocol for DMX512 systems, facilitating device configuration and status monitoring.
RDM enables setting DMX addresses, selecting DMX modes, and retrieving software versions.
DMX Signal Loss Behavior Configuration via RDM:
- DMX Hold (Value On/0): The fixture maintains its last received DMX values upon signal loss. This is the default setting.
- DMX Lost (Value Off/1): Activates the "DMX lost" behavior. Setting "DMX hold" to Off requires sending value 1 via RDM.
- When "DMX hold" is set to Off:
- DMX Lost (Value On/0): The fixture operates at maximum light output during DMX signal loss. This is the default setting for this state.
- DMX Lost (Value Off/1): The fixture's light output is turned off during DMX signal loss. Setting "DMX lost" to Off requires sending value 1 via RDM.
The RDM Model ID for the Ambiane AP is 0x0114.

13. Software Update Procedure
Software updates for the Ambiane AP can be performed using the ROBE Uploader, a specialized software for automated updates of Robe and Anolis fixtures, leveraging RDM support.
Fixtures must be connected in a daisy-chain (up to 32 units) via a Robe Universal Interface/Robe Universal Interface WTX and a USB cable to a control PC running the Robe Uploader. The control PC requires an active internet connection.
A diagram illustrates the daisy-chain connection: multiple fixtures linked by DMX cables, connected to a Robe Universal Interface, which is then linked via USB to a Control PC connected to the Internet.
Note: When using the Robe Uploader, fixtures are automatically switched into and out of update mode, eliminating the need to manually set DIP 12. The Robe Uploader is not compatible with DALI connections.
