How to Change Your Classic Ski Skins

Why Change Them

There are two primary reasons to change your classic ski skins: when your old skins lose their grip or when you need to adapt to different snow conditions and your technical skiing ability. Adjusting the skin type can help encourage better gliding or improved grip.

How to Change Them

To change your ski skins, begin by removing the old skin from the ski base, starting at the tip and finishing at the tail. For storage, stick the removed skins together with their sticky sides facing inward. When applying new skins, lay them down on the ski base, ensuring the direction of the fibers is correctly aligned. Apply firm pressure with your thumbs, starting from the tail and moving towards the tip, to ensure the new skins adhere properly.

It is generally recommended to change your ski skins annually. You can also clean your existing skins by applying a specialized product and brushing against the direction of the fibers with a cloth. To enhance performance, a water-repellent product can be applied, but it should be applied in the same direction as the ski fibers.
