11. Completed Table
All assembly instructions are described with all bolts and parts from the outside looking inward.
Net Assembly
- Make sure the table is folded down in play position. Release the safety latch and carefully lower each table half.
- Attach one net clamp to the middle edge where the table halves meet. Repeat for the opposite side. Slide the Net post into the slot on one side of the table, and do the same for the other. Ensure the white fabric of the net is on top. Attach the string to the base of the net post securely.
Usage Instructions
Unfolding the Table:
When unfolding, first lock the casters. Ensure the area is clear. The table is very heavy; it is recommended that at least two people unfold it. Pull both locking rings to release the lock plungers. Slowly lower each table half into play position. Then install the net and post set.
Folding the Table:
To fold the table into storage position, first lock the casters. Remove the net and post set to prevent damage. The table is very heavy. Ensure sufficient ceiling height. It is recommended that at least two people fold the table. Raise one table half to the vertical position until a loud clicking noise is heard, indicating the locking plungers are engaged. Check that the plungers are extruding from the side plates; gently rock the table half if needed. Repeat for the other half.
Playback Position:
Playback position is achieved by unfolding one half of the table and folding the other half. Ensure the folded half has its locking plungers in place. Always lock the casters when the table is in playback position for added safety.
Leveling:
The Infinity table has leveling feet. Spin the feet to adjust the height and make the table level.
Using the Locking Casters:
When the table is in storage or play position, always lock the casters for added safety.
Rules of the Game
Terms and Definitions:
- Rally: The period during which the ball is in play.
- In play: Once the ball is intentionally projected in service.
- Let: A rally the result of which is not scored.
- Point: A rally the result of which is scored.
- Racket hand: The hand holding the racket.
- Strike: To touch the ball with the racket while carried in the racket hand, or with the racket hand below the wrist.
- Server: The player required to strike the ball first in a rally.
- Around the net: Under or around the projection of the net and its supports outside the table, but not between the end of the net and post.
- Server's right hand court: The part of the playing surface nearest the server and to his right of the center line.
- Server's left hand court: The part of the playing surface nearest the server and to his left of the center line.
- Receiver's right hand court: The part of the playing surface on the other side of the net from the server and to his left of the center line.
- Obstruction: If a player or anything they wear or carry touches the ball during a point, before it touches the player's court since last being struck by the opponent.
The Choice of Sides and Service:
The choice of sides and the right to serve or receive first in a match is decided by a toss. The winner may:
- Choose to serve or receive first, with the loser choosing sides.
- Choose a side, with the loser choosing to serve or receive first.
- Require the loser to make the first choice.
In doubles: The pair serving first decides which partner serves. In the first game, the opposing pair decides who receives first. In subsequent games, the serving pair chooses their first server, and the first receiver is automatically determined.
Order of Play:
- Singles: Server makes a good service, receiver makes a good return. Server and receiver alternate returns.
- Doubles: Server serves, receiver returns. Server's partner returns, then receiver's partner returns. This repeats until the point ends.
Changing of Sides:
Players (or pairs) alternate sides after each game until the match ends. In the last possible game, players change sides when the first player/pair scores five points.
Changing of Service:
- Singles: After two points, the receiver becomes the server, continuing until the game ends or the score is 10-10. From 10-10 ('deuce'), each player serves one point until a two-point lead is achieved.
- Doubles: The sequence involves alternating services between partners and receivers. From 10-10, each player serves one point. The player/pair who served first in a game receives first in the next. In the last game, the receiving pair changes order when reaching five points.
Service:
Service begins with the ball resting on the open palm of the free hand. The server tosses the ball upwards (approx. 6 inches) and strikes it before it touches anything else. At impact, the ball must be behind the server's end line, above the playing surface, and visible to the receiver. The ball must contact the server's side of the table before the opponent's side.
- Singles: After striking, the ball must touch the server's court, pass over or around the net, then touch the receiver's court.
- Doubles: The ball must touch the server's right half-court or center line, pass over the net, then touch the receiver's right half-court or center line. Failing to strike the ball during service results in a point for the opponent.
Return:
The ball, after being served or returned, must be struck so it passes over or around the net assembly and touches the opponent's court, either directly or after touching the net assembly.
Serving or Receiving Out of Order:
If players neglect to change ends, play is interrupted upon discovery, and ends are changed. If a game is completed, the error is ignored. If a player serves or receives out of turn, play is interrupted and continues with the correct player/sequence at the current score.
Ball is In-Play Until:
The ball is in play from the moment it is stationary on the server's palm before projection until:
- A point is scored.
- It touches the same side of the court twice consecutively.
- It has been volleyed.
- It touches a player, or anything they wear or carry, other than their racket or racket hand below the wrist.
- It is struck by a player more than once consecutively.
- In doubles, it is struck by a player out of sequence (unless a genuine error in player order occurred).
A ball striking the top edge of the table is in play. A ball striking the side of the table below the edge is out of play.
Let:
A rally is a let if:
- The ball, during service, touches the net or supports, provided the service is otherwise good or the ball is obstructed by the receiver or partner.
- A service is delivered when the receiver or partner is not ready (unless they attempt to strike the ball).
- A player fails to make a good service or return, or violates a rule due to an accident outside their control.
- Play is interrupted for correction of an error in playing order.
Loss of a Point:
Unless the rally is a let, a player loses a point if:
- They fail to make a good serve.
- They fail to make a good return.
- They volley the ball.
- They strike the ball with an illegal surface on the racket blade.
- They, or anything they wear or carry, move the playing surface while the ball is in play.
- They, or anything they wear or carry, touch the ball in play before it has passed over the end or side line, and before it has touched their side of the net since being struck by the opponent.
- Their free hand touches the playing surface while the ball is in play.
- They, or anything they wear or carry, touch the net or its supports while the ball is in play.
- In doubles, they strike the ball out of proper sequence.
Official Game Rules:
A game is won by the player (or pair) first scoring 11 points. If both score 10 points, the game is won by the first player or pair to gain a two-point lead.
Playing a Match:
A match consists of the best of any odd number of games (usually five or seven).
