Measure wheel circumference (L) of your bike
For the most accurate calibration, perform a wheel roll-out. With the valve stem perpendicular to the ground, mark the pavement at the valve stem. With the rider's weight on the bike, roll the wheel one tire revolution in a straight line and mark the ground again when the valve stem is perpendicular to the ground. Measure the distance in millimeters (mm). This is the most accurate wheel calibration number.
4. Set the clock
When [MODE] is pressed and held, "Displayed time", "Hour", and "Minute" will appear in this order. Use the [MODE] button to increase the value or switch screens/digits. Press and hold [MODE] to move digits. Press [MENU] to register the setting.
You can switch between 24-hour and 12-hour format by pressing [MODE].
How to Install the Unit on Your Bicycle
This section details the installation process for the Cateye Strada Cadence cyclocomputer.
Parts List:
- 1. Bracket band
- 2. Bracket
- 3. Speed sensor
- 4. Cadence sensor
- 5. Wheel magnet
- 6. Cadence magnet
- 7. Sensor rubber pad
- 8. Bracket rubber pad
- 9. Nylon ties (x10)
Install the sensor and magnet:
A: The magnet should pass through the sensor line.
B: The clearance between the sensor surface and the magnet must not exceed 3 mm.
Note: When installing the cadence sensor (4), insert the sensor rubber pad (7) if necessary.
1. Install the speed sensor and wheel magnet
Attach the speed sensor (3) to the rear wheel spoke (5) and the wheel magnet (5) to the spoke. Ensure the magnet passes through the sensor line and maintains the correct clearance. Use nylon ties (9) to secure the sensor cable along the frame, routing it carefully to avoid hindering handlebar rotation.
Caution: Round off the cut edge of the bracket band to prevent injury.
2. Install the cadence sensor and cadence magnet
Attach the cadence magnet (6) to the inside of the left crank (4) and the cadence sensor (4) to the inside of the left chain stay (outside). Ensure the magnet passes through the sensor line and maintains the correct clearance.
3. Route the cable
Use the nylon ties (9) to secure the cable on the frame. Wind the cable on the rear brake cable as shown in the diagram. Caution: Turn the handlebar to make sure the wire does not hinder full rotation.
4. Attach the bracket to the stem or handlebar
Secure the bracket (2) with the bracket band (1) to the bicycle's stem or handlebar. Ensure the cable is not pinched or caught. Use the bracket rubber pad (8) for a secure fit.
Caution: Tighten the bracket, ensuring that the cable does not get caught in the stem.
Caution: Tighten the bracket, ensuring that the cable does not get caught in the handlebar.
5. Remove/install the computer
To install the computer, align it with the bracket and push until it clicks. To remove, push outward on the computer.
After installation, check that the speed sensor and cadence sensor are functioning properly.
For the speed sensor, lift the rear wheel off the ground and spin it to check if speed is displayed. For the cadence sensor, press [MODE] to display 'C' (cadence) on the mode screen. Rotate the crank in the non-driving direction and check if cadence is displayed. If speed is not displayed, verify conditions A and B are met.
Operating the Computer
This section covers the measuring screen, starting/stopping measurements, switching functions, and resetting data.
Measuring Screen
The measuring screen displays various data points:
- Tm Elapsed Time: Total time elapsed during measurement (0:00'00" - 9:59'59").
- C Cadence: Current pedaling cadence (0(20) - 299 rpm).
- Dst Trip Distance: Distance covered in the current trip (0.00 - 999.99 km/mile).
- Dst2 Trip Distance-2: Second trip distance counter (0.00 - 999.99 / 1000.0 - 9999.9 km/mile).
- Av Average Speed: Average speed for the current trip (0.0 - 200.0 km/h or 0.0 - 125.0 mph).
- Mx Maximum Speed: Maximum speed recorded for the current trip (0.0(4.0) - 200.0 km/h or 0.0(3.0) - 125.0 mph).
- Odo Total Distance: Total distance accumulated by the computer (0.0 - 9999.9 / 10000 - 99999 km/mile).
- Clock: Current time (0:00 - 23:59 or 1:00 - 12:59).
- Pace arrow: Indicates if the current speed is [faster] (▲) or [slower] (✔) than the average speed.
- Current speed: The current speed of the bicycle (0.0(4.0) - 200.0 km/h or 0.0(3.0) - 125.0 mph).
- Selected Mode: Shows the currently displayed data screen.
Note: If Tm exceeds approximately 27 hours or DST exceeds 999.99 km, '.E' (Error) is displayed as the average speed. Reset data.
Note: With the computer installed on the bracket, press on the three raised dots on the face of the computer to change screens.
Starting/Stopping Measurement
Measurements occur automatically when the bicycle is in use. During measurement, km/h or mph flashes.
Switching Computer Function
Pressing [MODE] switches functions in order, as shown on the screen.
Resetting Data
To reset measurement data (excluding Total Distance), display any data other than Dst-2 and then press and hold [MODE]. Pressing and holding [MODE] with Dst-2 displayed resets Dst-2 only.
The total distance is never reset.
Power-saving Function
If the computer has not received any signal for one hour, the power-saving mode activates, displaying only the clock. The main display reappears if the sensor detects a signal or [MODE] is pressed.
Changing the Computer Settings [Menu Screen]
To access the menu screen, press [MENU] in any mode. Each time [MODE] is pressed, the relevant menu screen appears. Pressing and holding [MODE] changes the setting of the displayed menu.
After changing settings, be sure to press [MENU] to register them. If the menu screen is not interacted with for one minute, the Measuring screen reappears without changes.
- Wheel selection: Toggle between specified wheel sizes (tire circumference) 'A' and 'B'. Use this if sharing the computer between two bicycles. Pressing [MODE] toggles between 'A' and 'B'.
- Wheel size entry: Pressing [MODE] increases the value, and pressing and holding [MODE] moves to the next digit. To enter wheel size 'B', display it using "Wheel selection".
- Clock setting: Refer to "Preparing the Computer - 4. Set the clock".
- Total distance manual entry: Before reinitializing the computer, note the total distance. This reading allows manual entry later. Pressing [MODE] increases the value, and pressing and holding [MODE] moves to the next digit.
- Speed unit: Pressing [MODE] toggles between km/h and mph.
Maintenance
To clean the computer or accessories, use diluted neutral detergent on a soft cloth, and wipe it dry with a dry cloth.
Replacing the Battery
If the display appears faded, replace the battery. Install a new lithium battery (CR1620) with the [+] side facing upward. Then, reinitialize the computer by referring to "Preparing the Computer".
Troubleshooting
MODE does not work when the computer is mounted on its bracket.
Check for dirt between the bracket and the computer. Wash the bracket with water to remove dirt and ensure smooth sliding.
Speed (Cadence) are not displayed.
- Test computer function: Touch a metal item against the two contact points on the back of the computer several times to create a short circuit. If a numeric value appears, the computer is functioning normally.
- Check sensor/magnet clearance: Is the clearance between the sensor and magnet too great? (Must be ≤ 3 mm). Does the magnet pass through the sensor line? Adjust positions accordingly.
- Check contact points: Is there foreign matter on the contact points of the computer and/or bracket? Clean the contact points.
- Check wiring: Ensure no wire cable is worn or broken. Replace the bracket sensor set if internal breakage is suspected.
Note: The contacts to be short-circuited intermittently are located on the back.
No display.
Is the battery depleted? Replace it and reinitialize the computer.
Incorrect data appear.
Reinitialize the computer.
