Continental Immobilizer 3H_IMMO User Manual
1. SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The immobilizer active antenna is designed for use with two BCMs (one from Continental and one from CK) and one key module from Renault. System integration with competitor products is not assumed by Continental. Validation for additional combinations can be provided upon request. The immobilizer function relies on mutual authentication between the key and the BCM, with the active antenna playing a role in charging the transponder and in data modulation/demodulation within the communication path. A typical immobilizer system with an active antenna is illustrated below:
Diagram Description: The diagram shows a car key with a transponder, an active antenna, and a BCM (Body Control Module). Arrows indicate the flow of signals: a wireless connection from the key to the antenna, and a wired connection from the antenna to the BCM. The antenna is depicted as generating a magnetic field (indicated by curved arrows) to charge the transponder and facilitating data communication.
Magnetic field generation:
The active antenna includes a base station for a driven antenna coil, which generates the Low Frequency (LF) field to charge the transponder and carries the modulated data.
Serial communication with BCM:
The active antenna connects to the BCM via a synchronous serial link. LF communication data is converted to baseband signals by the active antenna and transmitted in half-duplex mode between the transponder and the BCM over this interface.
The IMMO_ANT component is installed in the vehicle's lockset. The BCM drives the IMMO_ANT to generate a magnetic field that charges the Transponder (TxP) and serves as a carrier for data transmission. In the 3H_IMMO vehicle, the IMMO_ANT does not have an illumination function.
The immobilizer circuit comprises a voltage regulator, a serial interface, a base station IC, and an LF antenna. The serial interface facilitates communication with the BCM. The BCM transmits data for initialization and authentication to the Base station IC.
The active antenna incorporates the ABIC1 immobilizer base station IC, a ceramic resonator for clock generation, and a voltage regulator for power input stabilization. It requires connection to the BCM for communication functionality, as well as to the battery supply and ground.
The Base station IC generates the transmission signals for the transponder in the key and drives the antenna. Following transmission, the base station IC receives the transponder's response and forwards it to the BCM. The software within the BCM manages the entire communication process.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Interference Statement
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are intended to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, it may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
- Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
- Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
- Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
Note: Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
