TubePoint GEN2 Public Lighting
Product Guide
Versatility meets high performance in long-lasting tunnel lighting.
Introduction
TubePoint GEN2 is a versatile and high-performance family of LED-based luminaires designed specifically for tunnel lighting applications. It provides a safe, functional, and sustainable lighting solution that offers a favorable Return on Investment. This flexible and long-lasting luminaire family can be easily integrated into a complete tunnel lighting system, ensuring a comfortable driving experience and meeting the demands of modern infrastructure.
Key benefits of TubePoint GEN2 include:
- Energy savings compared to conventional lighting.
- Long lifetime and low maintenance requirements.
- Digital connectivity options for smart management.
- Future-proof investment for tunnels and underpasses.
Family Range
The TubePoint GEN2 family offers a complete, modular solution in a universal design with a wide range of optics. It is available in different sizes to provide maximum flexibility for various tunnel applications.
The range includes:
- Small: BGP235
- Medium: BGP236
- Large: BGP237
Luminaires can also be ordered without integrated drivers. In these cases, they are powered by remote multi-driver units, such as Metis drivers (e.g., EGP400), mounted outside the driving envelope. Extension leads are used to connect the LED units to the remote driver unit.
Mounting Options
TubePoint GEN2 supports flexible mounting configurations:
- BA bracket: Baseplate mounting.
- MB bracket: Ceiling bracket.
- MBA bracket: Tilted bracket (adjustable 0 to 90 degrees).
- MBQA bracket: Available for Small, Medium, and Large sizes, offering angle adjustment.
- Quick release brackets for cable tray mounting (various dimensions).
Applications
The TubePoint GEN2 range is suitable for all critical tunnel lighting zones, ensuring safety and comfort for drivers.
Tunnel Entrance Lighting
At the tunnel entrance, TubePoint GEN2 provides high lumen packages with optimized counterbeam and symmetrical distribution. This ensures a smooth transition from bright outdoor conditions to the lower light levels inside the tunnel, preventing temporary blindness.
Tunnel Interior Lighting
Inside the tunnel, low lumen packages combined with a wide range of symmetrical light distributions ensure optimal lighting and a safe driving environment, minimizing driver fatigue and enhancing visibility.
Tunnel Exit Lighting
As drivers leave the tunnel, their eyes need to quickly adapt to the outside light. TubePoint GEN2 provides medium to high lumen packages with counter beam and symmetrical lighting distribution to facilitate this adaptation, avoiding hesitation or indecision.
Underpasses
These features also make TubePoint GEN2 ideal for meeting the special lighting needs of traffic underpasses.
Key Application Areas:
- Tunnels and underpasses
- Tunnel entrance
- Tunnel interior
- Tunnel exit
Lighting Performance
TubePoint GEN2 offers outstanding flexibility in terms of lighting distributions and luminous flux, making it suitable for a wide array of applications. The luminaire family supports various optical configurations to meet specific tunnel requirements.
Available distributions include:
- Symmetrical Medium/Wide: For general interior lighting and central configurations in tunnels.
- Symmetrical Comfort: Designed for comfortable interior lighting in typical 2-lane tunnels.
- Asymmetrical Narrow/Wide/Extra Wide: Suitable for entrance and interior lighting, particularly in cornice configurations or for wider tunnels (e.g., 3-lane).
- Counterbeam: With or without louvres, optimized for entrance lighting to counteract glare from oncoming headlights and ambient light.
Please note that this is a non-exhaustive list of all available optics. For more detailed information, please contact your local sales representative.
Installation and Maintenance
TubePoint GEN2 is designed for quick and efficient installation. Its low weight, use of quick mounting brackets, and plug-and-play connectivity (including optional through wiring) minimize installation time and effort.
Mounting Options
Flexible mounting solutions include:
- Cable tray mounting using quick-release brackets in various dimensions.
- Adjustable wall mounting.
- Ceiling mounting.
All mounting brackets are constructed from stainless steel for durability.
Easy Maintenance
Despite its long-lasting design, TubePoint GEN2 is engineered for straightforward maintenance. Service engineers can access critical components on-site in minutes using only a screwdriver. The luminaire is designed for complete disassembly without glue, as all parts are secured with screws. The driver and LED units are fully repairable off-site, and spare parts are readily available.
The modular solution allows LEDs to be accessed by simply releasing the cover.
In Control
Integrating lighting controls with TubePoint GEN2 optimizes the total installation and maximizes the value of the investment. Controls continuously adapt lighting levels to changing external brightness, ensuring smooth transitions for drivers entering, passing through, and exiting tunnels. Additionally, lighting controls provide valuable status and health information about the tunnel lighting installation.
TunneLogic
TubePoint GEN2 Performer can be connected to TunneLogic, Philips' advanced tunnel control and monitoring system specifically designed for LED technology. This system is easy to install, commission, operate, and maintain, providing customers with safe lighting control and detailed information on the health of the installed lighting system.
BaseLogic
Alternatively, TubePoint GEN2 can be connected to BaseLogic, a retrofit, entry-level adaptive control lighting system. BaseLogic communicates via the powerline and includes enterprise server software, a photometer, tunnel control unit, data transmitter, and monitoring module.
TotalTunnel: The End-to-End Solution
TubePoint GEN2 is also offered as part of the TotalTunnel program, Philips' holistic approach to tunnel lighting. This program combines a networked lighting system with a comprehensive set of services, creating an intelligent and integrated tunnel lighting solution.
TotalTunnel benefits tunnel owners, operators, users, and maintenance companies by delivering a safe, energy-efficient, and compliant tunnel design. The program consists of five key building blocks:
- Luminaires: Functional tunnel lighting ensuring a safe journey and excellent efficiency, supporting all main tunnel lighting techniques.
- Guidance Lighting: State-of-the-art guidance solutions to keep traffic moving, enhancing driver comfort and safety.
- Dynamic Control Systems: From basic controls to elaborate monitoring systems, providing full control over the total lighting system.
- Architectural Lighting: Designed to reduce the feeling of monotony, improve spatial awareness, and enhance the overall driving experience.
- Services: Comprehensive services from concept design and commissioning to lifecycle support, including maintenance and performance optimization, ensuring a protected investment.
