Introduction
This document addresses a common fault where the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 DSLR camera fails to power on. The author shares their experience and the solution found after troubleshooting.
The author and their son each own a Fujifilm Finepix camera, with the son owning the S9600 and the author the S7000. This guide aims to provide a solution without extensive web searching.
The S9600 suddenly stopped powering up. Initial checks included replacing batteries, cleaning battery terminals, and using a custom 5v 2A DC power supply to rule out battery or compartment issues, but these did not resolve the problem.
A small clicking noise was then noticed from the lens area. Connecting the camera to a PC resulted in Windows 10 recognizing it as an 'Unknown Device'. Frustration led to disassembling the camera. Upon removing the Top Assembly Case and turning the camera upside down, the cause was discovered.
A micro switch had dislodged from one of the PCBs. Consulting the schematic for the S9100/9600 suggested this switch acts as a detector for the memory card compartment door. It is designed to protrude slightly, breaking contact when the door is open. When the door is closed, it pushes the switch, allowing the camera to power up.

Remove the command dial cover by pushing the cover upwards with your thumb just below the command dial. Then disconnect the ribbon cable and remove the cover completely.
Step 3 — Identifying the Faulty Micro Switch
Locate and identify the cause of the power issue.
It was at this point the camera was turned upside down, and a moving object was heard inside, which turned out to be this micro switch.
After investigation, it was determined that this switch belongs to the door flap of the memory card compartment.
The switch functions as a detector for the memory card compartment door. When the door is open, the switch protrudes, breaking contact. When the door is closed, it pushes the switch in, enabling the camera to power up.
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
