Wiring to Solenoid Valves
Controller Capacity
The Rain Bird WP Series controller supports one Rain Bird TBOS latching solenoid master valve plus one Rain Bird TBOS latching solenoid per station. Ensure all wiring between the controller and valves complies with low voltage buried installation standards.
Use appropriate gauge wire. All connections to valves and all wire splices must be hermetically sealed. Use DBY, DBR, or KING connectors.
Wiring Diagrams
Master Valve: The terminal marked 'P' is used to activate the master valve. Rain Bird strongly recommends always using a master valve to ensure proper system operation, for instance, if a valve wire is accidentally cut, water enters the pipe and reaches a valve, etc.
Important: The maximum distance between the controller and the valve, using 1.5 mm² wire, is 30 meters.
⚠ 24 Volt Solenoid vs. TBOS 9V Latching Solenoid: The diagram illustrates the difference between a 24 Volt solenoid and a TBOS 9V latching solenoid. The TBOS 9V solenoid is depicted with a specific connector type.
⚠ Wiring Layout: A diagram shows a Rain Bird controller connected to multiple irrigation valves. 'A' represents a valve box, where each valve has a TBOS Rain Bird latching solenoid. 'B' represents a master valve with a TBOS Rain Bird latching solenoid. The wiring shows a common black wire connecting all solenoids to the controller, and individual red wires connecting each solenoid to specific station terminals on the controller (SSCP123456).

Use the ◀ and ▶ keys to adjust the minutes.
If you do not want to adjust the minutes and wish to exit the screen, press the ► (validate) key.
1.1.2/ Adjusting the Current Day
Press the ◀ and ▶ keys to move the cursor (a square) over the number of the day of the week you want to select as the current day (1=Monday, 2=Tuesday, etc.).
Example: If today is Wednesday, move the cursor to 3.
Press the ► (validate) key to go to the next screen.
1.2/ Adjusting Watering Days per Program
Use the ► (validate) button to move the cursor over the days of the week (1 to 7, 1=Monday).
The ◀ and ▶ buttons are used to select or cancel watering days.
Example: If you want Wednesday to be a watering day, move the cursor using the ► (validate) key until the number 3 flashes. Then press the ► (validate) key to validate day 3 as a watering day. The number 3 will then appear inside a box.
Conversely, if you wish to cancel the selection of a day, perform the same operation but press the ◀ (OFF) key so that the selected day is not a watering day (the day will appear without a box).
Days validated with the ► (validate) key are boxed, while unvalidated days are not.
Once you have selected the watering days for a program, press the ► (validate) key to go to the next program. Note that only one program can run per station. You cannot assign multiple programs to the same station simultaneously.
To go to the next screen, press the ► (validate) key.
1.3/ Selecting Watering Duration per Station and Assigning Each Station
Use the ◀ and ▶ keys to select the watering time from 1 minute to 12 hours in 1-minute increments. The watering time will appear in hours and minutes.
Press the ► (validate) key repeatedly to assign the desired program to the station you are programming. You can only assign one program per station.
Once you have selected the watering time and assigned the program, proceed to the next function by pressing the ► (validate) key.
1.4/ Selecting Start Times per Program and Day
You can start a cycle up to 8 times per day if you prefer to perform several shorter watering sessions.
Use the ◀ and ▶ keys to select the first start time.
Then press the ► (validate) key to continue with the following steps. Repeat the described procedure.
NOTE: It is not necessary to use all 8 start times. The programmer will automatically arrange the start times in chronological order from 00:00 to 23:59. To cancel a start time, when viewing the start time you wish to cancel, press the ◀ and ▶ keys simultaneously.
2.1/ Programmer Status Display
You have completed all programming for your automatic irrigation system. In the future, this screen will appear the first time you press any key when the screen is blank.
Optional functions. Press ► (validate).
2.2/ Select Rain Delay
You can cancel irrigation for 1 to 15 days during rainy weather. Press ◀ and ▶ to select this option. The ☂ (cloud with raindrop) and ☀ (sun) icons will appear on all screens.
The programmer will mark the remaining days until automatic irrigation resumes according to its usual watering schedule. The programmer will return to automatic programming.
Note: To cancel the Rain Delay function, access the screen and set the number of days to 0. Remember that it will be impossible to start irrigation automatically if the Rain Delay function is active.
2.3/ Water Budget
The programmer has a Water Budget function used to adjust the watering time between 0 and 200% without changing the programmed watering time. A 100% setting means the watering time will be the same as programmed. The Water Budget feature can be used to decrease watering during winter periods or to increase watering during exceptionally hot periods without modifying the watering time.
Use the ◀ and ▶ keys to increase or decrease the watering time in 10% intervals.
Example: '80' on the screen means you have reduced the watering time by 20%. From an initial duration of 10 minutes that you had programmed, the programmer will water for 8 minutes. The increase or decrease in watering time will not appear on the screen. However, on the status screen, the '%' icon will appear, indicating that the Water Budget function is being used.
To deactivate the Water Budget function, once on the '%' screen, select 100%.
2.4/ Manual Start of a Station
The station number appears in the upper left corner of the screen (in the example: station 2). To advance from one station to another, use the ► (validate) button.
Example: To manually start station 2, press the ► (validate) button until the number 2 appears. Then, press the ► (validate) button. Irrigation will begin, and the programmer will indicate it on the screen with a flashing icon (a sprinkler with water droplets). The screen will show, via a countdown, the remaining watering time (in the example: 12 minutes), counting down in 1-minute intervals.
If you wish to suspend irrigation before the programmed time is met, press the ◀ (OFF) button. The sprinkler spray will stop flashing.
Note: Water Budget does not function when irrigation occurs in manual mode (Manual Start of a Station).
2.5/ Manual Start of a Cycle
A cycle consists of the sequential operation of all stations assigned to a program. To manually start a cycle:
- Select a program with the ► (validate) button.
- Press the ► (validate) button.
The irrigation cycle will begin, indicated by a flashing icon (a sprinkler with water droplets). The screen will display the number of the first station belonging to the cycle, along with a countdown of the remaining watering time. The other stations will appear sequentially as they activate. If the Water Budget function is active, the '%' icon will appear next to 'A' or 'B'. The increased or decreased watering time will also appear on the screen.
If you wish to stop irrigation before the cycle finishes, press the ◀ (OFF) button.
2.6/ Test All Stations
Note: If the programmer is in OFF mode, identified by a non-flashing sprinkler icon with a cross through it, no type of start-up, manual or automatic, is possible.
This function tests all stations connected to your WP in a two-minute cycle and allows you to check the proper functioning of the irrigation.
Press the ► (validate) key to start the test.
To go directly to the next station, press the ► (validate) key.
During the test period, the word 'TEST' will flash on the screen alternately with the remaining watering time of the current station.
To stop the test, press the ◀ (OFF) key.
2.7/ System Activated/Deactivated
By default, the programmer is in 'ON' mode, allowing programmed irrigation to occur. However, it is possible to prevent irrigation (disconnection during rainy periods) without modifying the irrigation programs:
- Go to the screen where a flashing sprinkler icon with a cross through it appears. To suspend the irrigation program, press the ◀ (OFF) button. The cross will stop flashing. If you navigate through the menu (► (validate) button), you will notice that the cross appears on all screens except one. No irrigation, neither automatic nor manual, is possible.
- To restore the irrigation program, return to the flashing cross screen and press the ► (validate) button. The cross will disappear.
