Installation Overview
This document provides a detailed guide for installing the RSNAV CarPlay interface in Audi vehicles equipped with the 3G MMI system, specifically the 8V model. Professional installation is recommended to avoid damage to vehicle trim.
The installation involves accessing and removing the Information Electronics Control Module (J794) located in the glove compartment, and potentially the center console insert. Specific tools like the Radio Removal Tool (T10057) and Pry Lever (80-200) are required for certain steps.
Key Installation Steps
- Turn off the vehicle's ignition and all electrical equipment.
- Remove the glove compartment and any media cards.
- Disconnect connectors from the Information Electronics Control Module (J794).
- For vehicles with a knee airbag, extreme caution is advised when handling pyrotechnic components. Always discharge static electricity before touching electrical connectors.
- Remove the center console insert by carefully prying it out.
- Connect the smartphone interface system to the Information Electronics Control Module (J794).
- Configure the dip switch settings according to your vehicle's MMI variant.
- Route the USB wire and connect it to the interface.
- Reassemble all removed components.
Configuration and Usage
After installation, select 'external audio input' from the 'Media' menu in your Audi MMI to hear sound from the CarPlay interface.
For Apple CarPlay: Deactivate Bluetooth on your iPhone manually to ensure the car's microphone functions correctly for handsfree calls. Apple does not permit automatic deactivation.
For Android Auto: Keep Bluetooth enabled in Audi MMI Media for handsfree and A2DP music. For superior media streaming, you can deactivate the media profile on your Android phone and switch to External Audio Sources in Audi MMI Media, though manual Bluetooth switching may be needed for calls.
The guide also details the functions of MMI and steering wheel buttons for navigation and media control.

- On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay.
- Choose 'USB Only' for setup.
- Connect your iPhone to the car's USB port.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the CarPlay setup.
