Important Safety Instructions
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, injury, or damage, follow these basic precautions:
- Read all instructions before using the lower oven.
- Install according to provided Installation Instructions.
- Do not use the lower oven for room heating; this can cause burns, injury, or fire.
- Never leave children unsupervised near a working oven. Do not allow them to sit or stand on any part of the oven.
- Do not attempt repairs yourself unless specified in this manual; refer servicing to a qualified technician.
- Do not store flammable materials near the oven, as they could explode or burn.
- In case of grease fires, do not use water. Smother flames by covering the pan with a lid or cookie sheet. Use baking soda or a dry chemical/foam extinguisher for flaming grease outside the pan.
- Use only dry potholders. Moist potholders can cause steam burns. Avoid touching hot heating elements with potholders. Do not use towels or bulky cloths as potholders, as they can catch fire.
- Open the oven door with care to allow hot air or steam to escape before removing or replacing food.
- Do not heat unopened containers; they may explode, causing burns or injury from particles.
- Keep lower oven vents unobstructed.
- Position oven racks before cooling the oven. If moving a rack in a hot oven, ensure potholders do not contact heating elements.
- Do not clean the door seal, as it is essential for proper sealing. Clean only recommended parts.
- Do not use commercial oven cleaners or protective coatings inside or around the oven.
- Before self-cleaning, remove broiler pan, grid, racks, and other utensils. Do not use the oven for cleaning miscellaneous items.
- Do not store items children might climb on above the oven.
- Avoid touching heating elements or interior surfaces when hot. Areas near interior surfaces, the oven vent, and the door/window can become hot enough to cause burns.

Using Your Lower Oven
Setting the clock: The clock is located on the upper microwave oven control panel. Refer to the Upper Microwave Oven Use and Care Guide for instructions.
Using the Minute Timer: The Minute Timer on the upper microwave oven control panel can be used for any timed cooking. Refer to the Upper Microwave Oven Use and Care Guide for instructions.
Using the lower oven controls: The lower oven uses two knobs: the Oven Selector and the Oven Temperature Control. Both must be set for the oven to heat.
Baking:
- Position the rack(s) properly before turning on the oven. To change rack position, lift the rack at the front and pull it out.
- The rack(s) should be positioned so the top of the food is centered in the oven. Ensure at least 1/2 to 2 inches (4-5 cm) clearance between the pan sides and oven walls or other pans. Refer to the Cooking Guide for more details.
- Set the Oven Selector to BAKE. The lower oven ON signal light will illuminate.
- Set the Oven Temperature Control to the desired baking temperature. The lower oven HEATING signal light will turn on. The oven is preheated when the HEATING signal light turns off.
- Place food in the oven. During baking, heating elements cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature, indicated by the HEATING signal light. The top element assists in heating but does not glow red.
- When baking is complete, turn both the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to OFF. The ON and HEATING signal lights will extinguish.
Adjusting the oven temperature control: If your oven seems hotter or colder than expected, you can adjust the temperature control. If after some use you are not satisfied with the temperature settings, follow these steps:
- Pull the Oven Temperature Control Knob straight off.
- Loosen the locking screw. Note the position of the notches.
- To lower the temperature, move the knob one notch closer to LO. Each notch adjusts approximately 10°F (5°C).
- To raise the temperature, move the knob one notch closer to HI. Each notch adjusts approximately 10°F (5°C).
- Tighten the locking screw and replace the control knob.
Broiling:
- Position the rack according to the "Broil Chart" in the Cooking Guide or a cookbook for recommended positions.
- Place the broiler pan and food on the rack.
- Close the oven door to the Broil Stop position (approximately 4 inches / 10.2 cm open). The door will remain open.
- Set the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to BROIL. The lower oven ON and HEATING signal lights will illuminate.
- When broiling is finished, turn both the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to OFF. The ON and HEATING signal lights will go off.
Custom Broil:
- If food cooks too quickly, turn the Oven Temperature Control counter-clockwise until the HEATING signal light goes off.
- For slower broiling from the start, set the Oven Temperature Control between 150°F and 325°F (65.5°C and 162.7°C). Lower temperatures result in slower cooking.
- The Oven Selector must be on BROIL for all broiling temperatures.
- NOTE: The lower oven door must remain partly open when set to BROIL to maintain proper temperatures.
Using the automatic MEALTIMER* control: This control allows the oven to turn on and off at preset times, even when you are not present. It is ideal for foods that do not require preheating, like meats and casseroles. Do not use it for cakes or cookies, as undercooking may result.
To delay start and stop automatically:
- Position the rack(s) and place food in the oven.
- Ensure the clock is set to the correct time of day (refer to the Upper Microwave Oven Use and Care Guide).
- Set the Oven Selector to TIMED BAKE.
- Set the Oven Temperature Control to the desired baking temperature.
- Touch the START TIME pad, then enter the desired start time. (Skip this step for immediate start).
- Touch the STOP TIME pad, then enter the desired stop time.
- Touch START. The oven will begin and end cooking automatically.
- To stop the oven before the preset time, or after baking is done, turn both the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to OFF.
To cancel the MEALTIMER* control settings:
- Touch STOP TIME.
- Touch CANCEL.
- Turn the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to OFF.
WARNING: To avoid sickness and food waste when using the MEALTIMER* control:
- Do not use foods that spoil easily while waiting for cooking to start (e.g., dishes with milk, eggs, cream soups, cooked meats/fish). Ensure such foods are very cold or frozen before placing them in the oven. Most unfrozen foods should not stand for more than two hours before cooking starts.
- Do not use foods with baking powder or yeast for delay start, as they may not rise properly.
- Do not leave food in the oven for more than two hours after the cooking cycle ends.
The oven vent: Hot air and moisture escape through a vent located just above the lower oven door. Do not block the vent, as this can lead to poor baking results.
Optional rotisserie: A rotisserie kit (Part No. 261881) can be ordered from your Whirlpool Dealer, including installation instructions.
Door panel replacement: To replace the lower oven door glass, order White Panel Kit No. 814069 from your Whirlpool Dealer, which includes installation instructions.
Caring For Your Lower Oven
WARNING: Burn or Electrical Shock Hazard. Ensure all controls are OFF and the oven is COOL before cleaning. Failure to do so may result in burns or electrical shock.
Control panel and knobs:
- Pull control knobs straight off.
- Clean the control panel with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, or spray glass cleaner. Rinse and wipe dry.
- Wash control knobs in warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry. Do not soak.
- Push control knobs straight back on, ensuring they point to OFF.
Using the Self-Cleaning cycle: The Self-Cleaning cycle uses very high heat to burn away soil. Understand the process before starting.
Before you start:
- Clean areas by hand that do not get hot enough during the cycle: the inside of the door (excluding the center area) and the frame around the oven. Do not clean the fiberglass seal; moving or bending it can affect cleaning and baking.
- Remove the broiler pan, pots, pans, and any stored items, as they cannot withstand the heat.
- Wipe out loose soil or grease to minimize smoke during the cycle.
- If the oven has a rotisserie, ensure the motor socket cover is closed.
- For shiny oven racks, remove and clean them by hand. Otherwise, place them on the second and fourth guides (from bottom). Note that racks cleaned in the cycle may become harder to slide.
- Ventilate the kitchen with a hood or fan during the Self-Cleaning cycle to remove normal heat and odors.
Setting the controls for Self-Cleaning:
- Set the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to CLEAN. The lower oven ON signal light will illuminate.
- Lift the panel between the upper and lower oven doors. Move the Lock Lever all the way to the right to the Clean position.
- Ensure the clock is set to the correct time of day.
- Set the Self-Cleaning cycle duration: 2 hours for light soil, 3-4 hours for moderate to heavy soil. For a 3-hour cycle, touch STOP TIME and enter the desired stop time.
- (Optional Delayed Clean): Touch START TIME and enter the desired start time, ensuring it is 2-4 hours before the stop time.
- Touch START. The oven will begin the cycle automatically. The lower oven Locked signal light will turn on when temperatures exceed normal baking levels. The Lock Lever must not be moved, and the door cannot be opened while this light is on.
- After the cycle completes, the Lower Oven Locked signal light will turn off. Move the Lock Lever back to the left gently; wait until it moves easily.
- Turn the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control to OFF. The ON signal light will go off.
- Once the oven is cool, wipe off any residue or ash with a damp cloth. Use a soapy steel wool pad for stubborn spots if needed.
To stop the Self-Cleaning cycle at any time:
- Touch STOP TIME.
- Touch CANCEL.
- When the Lower Oven Locked signal light goes off, move the Lock Lever back to the left. Do not force it; wait until it moves easily.
Special tips for Self-Cleaning:
- Keep the kitchen well-ventilated to manage heat, odors, and smoke.
- Cleaning a heavily soiled oven takes longer and produces more smoke. Clean the oven before it becomes excessively dirty.
- If the cycle doesn't clean as expected, it may have been set for too short a duration or the oven wasn't prepared correctly. Try a longer cycle next time and hand-clean areas noted on page 14.
How it works: The Self-Cleaning cycle heats the oven to approximately 875°F (468°C) to break down and burn off grease and soil. The graph shows approximate temperatures and times for a 3-hour cycle: LOCK LIGHT ON around 560°F (293°C) at 1/2 hr; CLEANING CYCLE reaches 875°F (468°C) around 1.5 hrs; OVEN SHUTS OFF around 2.5 hrs; LOCK LIGHT OFF around 3 hrs. The oven takes time to cool down enough to unlock after the cycle ends.
Cleaning tips:
- Control knobs: Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Wash, rinse, and dry well. Do not soak.
- Control panel: Clean with warm soapy water or spray glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Wash, rinse, and dry well. Follow cleaner instructions.
- Lower oven exterior: Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Wipe regularly when cool. Use a plastic scrubbing pad for stubborn spots. Avoid abrasive cleaners. Note: Acids like vinegar, tomato, lemon juice, or milk can remove the glossy finish if left on the surface.
- Broiler pan and grid: Clean with warm soapy water or a steel wool pad after each use. Wash, rinse, and dry well. Do not clean in the Self-Cleaning Oven.
- Oven racks: Use the Self-Cleaning cycle, leaving racks inside. Alternatively, clean with warm soapy water or soapy steel wool pads. Wash, rinse, and dry. Use steel wool pads for stubborn areas. Note: Racks may discolor and become harder to slide after self-cleaning. Remove and clean by hand to keep them shiny.
- Lower oven door glass: Use spray glass cleaner or warm soapy water and a plastic scrubbing pad. Ensure the oven is cool. Wash, rinse, and dry well.
- Self-Cleaning lower oven (areas outside the main cycle): Use warm soapy water or soapy steel wool pads. Follow instructions from page 14. Do not use commercial oven cleaners or foil liners.
The lower oven light: The light turns on when the door is opened. With the door closed, push the right side of the Oven Light Switch to turn it on; push the left side to turn it off.
WARNING: Electrical Shock and Personal Injury Hazard. Ensure the oven and bulb are cool and power is OFF before replacing the bulb. The bulb cover must be in place to protect the bulb and prevent injury from broken glass.
To replace the oven light:
- Turn off power at the main power supply.
- Remove the bulb cover from the back of the oven by pulling it out and pushing the wire holder aside.
- Remove the old bulb and replace it with a 40-watt appliance bulb.
- Replace the bulb cover and snap the wire holder back into place. Turn the power back on.
- NOTE: The oven light will not function during the Self-Cleaning cycle.
