Overview
Welcome to the Third Generation Scarlett 2i2 Studio, a professional audio interface solution from Focusrite. This package provides a high-quality audio interface, a studio condenser microphone (Scarlett CM25 MkIII), and reference headphones (Scarlett HP60 MkIII), offering a complete setup for recording with a microphone or directly from instruments.
The Scarlett 2i2 interface enhances audio specifications for greater dynamic range and lower noise. It features Focusrite's AIR function, which models the sonic characteristics of classic transformer-based ISA microphone preamps, adding clarity and definition to recordings. The Direct Monitor feature allows for zero-latency monitoring during recording.
This guide details the components and their features to help users understand the product's capabilities. For further assistance, the Focusrite support website at support.focusrite.com offers a comprehensive collection of answers to common technical support queries.
Getting Started
The Scarlett 2i2 Studio utilizes a Quick Start tool for a streamlined setup process. Connect the interface to your computer via the provided USB cable. The device will be recognized, and the Quick Start tool will guide you through the necessary steps, including software installation and registration.
For detailed setup and configuration, Focusrite recommends installing the Focusrite Control software. This software unlocks the full potential of the interface, allowing sample rates up to 192 kHz. If you choose not to register immediately, you can still access full functionality by connecting the Scarlett 2i2 and holding the 48 V button for five seconds.
The Scarlett 2i2 is compatible with most Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) that support ASIO (Windows) or Core Audio (Mac). Ensure you select the correct driver (e.g., Focusrite USB ASIO) within your DAW's audio setup.
Hardware Features
The Scarlett 2i2 features two "Combo" input sockets on the front panel for microphones, instruments, or line-level signals. Gain controls with tri-colour LED indicators help manage input levels. The 48 V phantom power switch is available for condenser microphones. The INST button adjusts the input stage for instrument-level signals.
The AIR function, selectable per channel, enhances mid to high frequencies. The DIRECT MONITOR control allows for zero-latency monitoring of input signals, with options for MONO or STEREO monitoring. The main MONITOR control adjusts the output level to the rear panel outputs, and a separate headphone level control is provided for the front panel headphone output.
The rear panel includes LINE OUTPUTS (Left and Right) using 1/4" TRS jack sockets and a USB 2.0 Type C port for computer connection.
